Aries Apps. 3GP Converter Review (August edition)
Ah welcome back to Aries Apps. After last months messing around with DVD shrink I’m sure your sitting with quite a few VOB files, or if you’re one of the lucky few that have a MP4 converter, then your already reaping the rewards of mobile movies on your PSP. For those of you who waited this month I’m once again covering one of the more popular pieces of conversion software available for the free 3GP converter.
# App. Name: 3GP converter Version.0.34
# What its ‘supposed’ to be for: This is a multi-format Freeware converter designed with the primary task of rapid conversion from one visual or audio medium to another via a simple ‘drag & drop’ interface. Its primarily designed for putting short films on your 3G phone and it even has options for many 3G and MP4 conversion types making it adaptable enough to put an MP4 on almost any mobile device. It’s really a simple and sweet piece of freeware.
# How and what it can be used for: The 3GP has so many options that at first anyone would be a little confused, but just like DVD shrink a few very simple tweaks and optimizations will leave you with the fastest and most widely available ‘PSP movie makers’ on the web. As I said above the 3GP converter uses an incredibly simple ‘drag & drop’ interface that makes putting an Anime/movie on your PSP as simple as moving a file, waiting for the file to convert and dragging the resulting MP4 (and pmp picture too!) to your ROOT VIDEO file and enjoying your film. On a lesser note the 3GP also has one more useful feature making it perfect for the PSP, as most files in VOB are quite sizable (300-700mb). It lowers the quality a little the 3GP shrinks the file even further usually to between 175-300mb which if your limited to a 500mb memory stick is quite a boon.
# Where to get it for FREE (legally): http://www.pspcrazy.com/?page=Files&action=showfile&id=235
# The round up: With any freeware the 3GP has the primary advantage of being free! For most people the free aspect is enough as an incentive but with 3GP you would be hard pressed to find something better. Commercial equivalents really are rendered pointless after using this App. Given the recent English translation of the program, this really is the perfect time to test drive this flawless partner to the DVD shrink App. Now stop reading and get RIPPING! Those DVDs wont convert themselves!!!
#The tech Bit!
3GP: Contains format defined by 3GPP for use on 3G mobile phones. It’s a simplified version of MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4).
MPEG-4: A standard used primarily to compress audio and video (AV) digital data.
Drag & Drop: Graphical user interfaces, drag-and-drop is the action of (or support for the action of) clicking on a virtual object and dragging it to a different location or onto another virtual object.
Virtual Object: Any ‘soft’ file on your computer eg; a file, application or mp3/mp4 in fact ANY file on your computer!
# The Score: Overall 8/10 and believe me its more than well earned!

VERY Excellent program. Also to point out, you can change the language to English so dont freak out because you don't want to use something you cant read.
