Piracy isn't what's killing the PSP. It's all the lousy games that keep coming out... there hasn't been but maybe two games worth buying since before summer (Yes, surprisingly, I do buy the games when they are worth it). And aside from GTA: VCS, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is the only promising title I've seen since Valkyrie Profile Lenneth.

I think piracy IS killing the PSP.
Take Tekken for example. Easily the best PSP game available and yet how many people actually bought it? How many people just download the ISOs?
Our ISO providers here certainly didn;t do this game justice.

I'm not saying piracy isn't a problem, as it most definitely is, I'm saying that the serious lack of quality games isn't helping matters any. I buy 360 games all the time (I own 20+, compared to 4 PSP games). I could easily flash my DVD drive to read backups, and not buy any 360 games, yet I don't. I buy the games because they are worth it.

i think piracy if one of sony's worst enimies when it comes to the psp
there are some quality games out there
tekken, lumines 1 and 2, gta ls and vc are some just to name a few
people say that ds has better games but i dont think i can agree with that. personally the only games ive really been thinking about is the mario genre games

Piracy = KILLS SYSTEMS / HANDHELDS aka dreamcast... R.I.P
btw GTA VCS easily a AWESOME game... tell me this... how many of you bought the game? about 30:70 bought it. 70:30 downloaded it. what dose that say? sony is losing money. which make them harder to support the psp and devs. which starts killing it.
psp will die soon if sont dosnt get it togeter. like 3.00? WTF total let down. fuxking 2.00 was a HUGE update in it....with some flaws ;] lmfao i expected... no ALL expected a great update... what we get? a few visuals... and a camera? oh ths PS1 EMULATOR... which needs ps3 and its BARLELY an emulator the games are in eboot format... sony suck... hands down.

it will only stop when Sony finally use a PS1 Game for the PSP without the Need to buy a PS3. not everyone has 599 or 499 for the next gen i upgrade from PS1 to PS2 in 2003 and that because i got it of the pawnshop but the PS3 will cause the failer on all system but that just a stoners view on the topic

Piracy didn't kill the Dreamcast. Sure, it was an easy system to pirate games on, The PS2 it was killed the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast actually sold very well at launch (both in the US and in Japan). Things didn't start going downhill for the Dreamcast until the PS2 was released. The PS2's launch pretty much killed Dreamcast sales in Japan because the PS2 was the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time.

lol this news page is kinda old so it safe to say that october has passed and the games still wernt great, Socom ftb2, in my opinion, wasnt what is was hyped up to be. So it is true that they are going to sell less psp because there isnt many great games out.

Oh my my my. Piracy did not call the dreamcast, sony did.
Your argument however on PSP piracy being a huge issue is full of holes. I honestly don't think a developer will sit down and say, -PSP piracy is bad, lets make a halfass game-. Original xbox piracy was bad, its still kicking. I would equate the level of piracy on the psp to that of the xbox. Many of the owners of the PSP that I know have no idea about anything outside of firmware upgrades, they are all running 3.01 without knowledge of ISO loaders or emulation.
If piracy really is killing the PSP, then why isn't PC gaming rotting 6 feet under?

THE NUMBER OF PSP'S SOLD HAS NEVER BEEN CLOSE TO THE NUMBER OF DS SOLD NOT EVEN CLOSE. tHE LAST REORT FROM JAPAN WAS DS Lite: 201,378 AND PSP: 30,815, I haven't seen US numbers but I am sure its the same. (Sorry caps lock was on)

steve what lousy games are comnig out exactly for the psp? IMO the psp had great launch games such as Tony Hawks, Burnout Legends (UK) Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer and Lumines alone. As time has gone by the PSP has recieved full start treatment with even more killer games lik Tekken, Daxter, Medal Of Honor, Syphone Filter you name it. I don't see how you can say the general quality of PSP games are poor.

I bought the PSP at introduction just to have the latest gadget. Since release I have purchased four games and one UMD. Memory sticks are too small and too expensive. I would use it for media if memory was bigger/cheaper. The screen is beautiful. I wanted Gran Turismo Mobile but it got killed. When will Sony release its own emulator so I can play Gran Turismo on it!

I agree that piracy is contributing to the demise of the PSP, but I don’t think it is completely to blame. The PSP suffers from a lack of quality games. It is as simple as that.
ISO’s do contribute, but think about it. Most people wouldn’t buy that many games in the first place. Say one or two a month. If you couldn’t play ISO’s etc would sales of PSP games really be that different.
I am old, I remember swapping commodore 64 tapes with my mates, and this didn’t kill off the system. The old PS1 could be chipped to play backups and again this didn’t kill the system, if anything it just sold more consoles. Every system has a weak point which can be hacked but this doesn’t cause the demise of a system. Bad management and poor games do.
What will kill the PSP is releasing half finished, PS1/PS2 ports (that nobody bought for the original system) which are overpriced. £30 for a PSP game is ridiculous, I have an XBOX360 and I am only paying, at the most £40 for a game. Expecting PSP owners to buy a PS3 to play PS1 games is ridiculous.
Developers release half-assed games because people buy them; it’s as simple as that.

it's got nothing to do with piracy since it is much easier to installed copied games on a ds. plus you can't fit almost all your games library on one 2gb backup cart. hacking the ds is much more difficult and there is always the risk of bricking your psp.

Piracy is what killing the PSP and the suxx games as well!
If you see it clearly, then you realize that! PSP is very low on exclusive and good games! I hate the DS, Dual screen is suxx anyway but I have to admit there are much more exclusives than on the PSP!Mteal Gear and final Fantasy? These are very few....

I don't think the PSP is going to die anytime soon, but your right, piracy is harming the PSP, and also not having that decent games as well. GTA:VCS was the only one good that has come out so far in the last 4 months in my opinion
