Sega Rally Revo

Today at GamingCrazy we are taking a look at a release we never seemed to have gotten around to. If you like racing simulation and want to take that experience portably, then this game might just be right for you. Today we will be taking a look at Sega Rally Revo.

Presentation

The game menu itself is very simple and basic. Nothing fancy to confusing you. There are four game modes: Quick Race; for those times you want to jump in on the action fast. Championship; if you want a bit of a challenge. Time attack; if you like speeding through tracks, and there is multiplayer; to play your friends on both Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure Mode. There is also a game sharing feature that will let your friends temporarily download a short race onto their PSP so that they don’t need to purchase the game in order to face your friends. There is also a leader board so that if you have more than one person playing the game it will track their times and match it with yours so you can see how they are doing compared to you.

There are also a wide range of options when choosing which race you desire. There are 5 different regions with three different tracks per region adding up to 15 different races you can attempt. Each region has different terrain giving you a different surface breakdown. Once you pick your track you’re welcomed to nine different cars ranging from Subaru, Citroën, Toyota and many more. Once you’ve picked a car you can pick the type of tires you want on the car. The three different types are road, rally, and all-terrain. Each tire will give you a different outcome depending on what region you chose. Last but not least you can choose automatic or manual. The game gives you a lot of choice to deal with from races to tires.

Graphics

When it comes to graphics this game does not disappoint. When going through mud or snow, dust is seen coming out from behind the cars, and when you are coming out of a muddy terrain you’ll find your car all covered up mud. Scenery around the races are nice with arctic mountains, city landscapes and forests in the safari. There are even a few destructible items are can hit down with your car if you want to feel a bit reckless.

Gameplay

While presentation and graphics are great, gameplay can be another thing. Controls are hard to master. You will find yourself drifting a lot and going out of control. A move of the thumb stick too far and you’ll find yourself skidding out of control while your opponent glides right through you. While the game does feature a GPS system and tells you the length of the next turn, it’s hard to move the thumb stick just right to get it to turn without hitting the walls or skidding uncontrollably. One positive side to the game is that it has fast loading times so you don’t need to wait no longer than a couple of seconds.

Sound

The game features some nice arcade music, but it’s a pity since it’s hard to hear over the car’s engine. Also with the GPS voice constantly telling you what type of turn is coming up next it takes the enjoyment away from the soundtrack. It is possible to lower the SFX and Pace-note volume, to get the soundtrack heard over the annoying GPS system.

Replay Value

In almost all racing simulations there is replay value in this game. With 15 different races, and many different options for each car you’ll find yourself playing this game for a good couple of hours.

Presentation: 8.0/10
Graphics: 8.0/10
Gameplay: 6.0/10
Sound : 6.5/10
Replay Value: 8/10
Overall: 7.3
