Naruto! Bleach! Dragon Ball Z! What’s next? I’m starting to see tons of anime-based games for all gaming-based systems popping up everywhere. In fact just today I have been informed that three anime games for the PSP are being released very soon. Some anime-based games I can name right off the bat that are being released for the PSP are Naruto: Narutamate Hero Portable, which is a port of the famous PS2 version of this robust fighter; Blood+ which will be a PSP exclusive, and two bleach games which already grabbed a huge import audience here in the U.S. I have noticed anime gaming is rapidly increasing in the U.S due to Japanese animation becoming increasingly popular here. Before anime was highly looked down upon as something only the school geeks would watch.
Bleach, A current Top Selling Anime-Based Fighter
Now it’s something that about 50 percent of gamers watch. MMORPG’s are partly to blame with the release of Gaia online, a free forum based anime RPG, and Ragnorok Online, a huge Korean made anime-based mmorpg that held a portion of the online gaming market a few years back. To tell you the truth even I am starting to be consumed by the Japanese anime market. The amount of awesome, quality anime-based games being released already have a huge fan-based foundation. Some gaming sites are even changing the generic RPG to Anime RPG and American RPG. Now why does this matter to PSP and PS2 gamers? One of the reasons that Sony has a strong foothold in the gaming industry is due to its anime-based games that were released in Japan on the ps1. Final fantasy was probably the largest anime-based game franchise in the U.S. “What, you must be joking, FF isn’t an anime”, sorry to inform you but FF is an anime-based game. Why do you think they made the movie with an anime special attached, and Japanese-like characters. Final Fantasy anime's were all over Japan 3-4 years back, and the thrills back with their recent hit movie Advent Children. For Xbox (360) gamers: unless Microsoft doesn’t pick up the tab about producing anime-based RPG games, they will simply be left out of gaming in Japan, land of Anime.
