dude I was gonna say the exact same thing!! I played games alot but it was all fun. play mario, beat it, takes like less than an hour to get boring and not to much too it. snes and same thing happens. ps1 and same thing happened for a while, but mgs' gameplay and storyline really made me play hardcore. beat it 15 times (first 3 to unlock bandana, stealth camo, then suit, rest just for fun) and loved it. thats when storylines for games really became important for me, and AI. I started focusing on realism in games, though it wasnt as big as it is now, back then I just stopped playing stuff like crash bandicoot and the like after mgs.
though now I play ratchet and clank, I still look for realism, good ai, good story, good characters, etc. I find I have high standards actually...
