Is "sky" some type of brand or something? If so what type of a device, other than the laptop, did you try to use the ir signal on? You should try using it on a basic device first just to see if it works all all for you. A good deve to try would be something like a popular tv brond like SONY or something.
Because not all devices are supported and the sky device might be one of them. (All this is assuming of coarse that sky is a name brand)
