Super noob guide to making pandora battery and memorystick

This guide will tell you how to:
Create a Jigkick Battery.
Create a Magic Memorystick.
Unbrick a PSP.
Downgrade a PSP.
Restore a battery to normal state.
Restore a Memorystick to normal state.
How to downgrade a TA-082/6 with a Pandora Battery.

REQUIREMENTS
- A spare PSP Battery. You are better of with a sony official one as some third parties don't work with this, but if you have one you want to use, try it. Using a spare battery is best, as it will not be possible to boot the PSP to the normal menu (XMB) with a modified battery.
-Third parties don't work because they don't have a chip to flash or change the code. Thus you are unable to change it to a Jigkick Battery.
- A spare Memory Stick Pro Duo of less than 4Gb. (256Mb should be
enough for all applications). I used a 512mb Sandisk stick that worked flawlessly, you could get any with a 128mb aswell. The aplication dont take up that much room. Only NAND Dumps which use 37mb.
- A PSP with a Custom Firmware such as OE, M33 or WC, or standard 1.50. This is the PSP that you need to use to make the Magic Memorystick and Jigkick Battery.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
- Connect the PSP to the PC with the Memory Stick inside that you wish to turn into a Magic one. As you would normally when transfering files to and from your memorystick.
- Format the Memory Stick using any utility. I reccommend the option on your PSP. It's in system settings> Format Memory Stick. But first backup any file you want on that memorystick!!
- This next step is difficult for anyone who has never used command prompt before. Use mspformat to format the Memory Stick logically. This program is with the normal panodra battery release by team C+D. Open a command prompt by going to your PC and going to start run> then in the little window type cmd an hit enter. Then open the window with the file mspformat in, drag that exe file over the command prompt window and let go.

- You cannot just double click the mspformat as it doesn't have all the code it needs to run on its own. Then on the command prompt window type (firstly find the drive letter of your PSP) (yes space after this ")" 'your PSP drive letter'" excluding quotes. Then hit enter. It will ask you if your shure type "y" and press enter again. I am shure you didn't understand so here:

Your memorystick is now logically formatted, I do not know what the difference between this and a normal format is but I will find out.
- Remove the Memory Stick and disable the USB connection. People argue over weather to remove the memorystick before disabling USB or after. It realy doesn't matter. I always remove it while in USB mode and have never had problems.
- Connect the Memory Stick again via the USB connection of the PSP. Important or you can end up with a bricked memorystick!!
- Manually create the PSP/GAME folder on the
Memory Stick. Where you would normally put homebrew on a 1.50 or sometimes on a custom firmware PSP.
- Copy the "battery" and "installer" programs to the PSP/GAME
folder. They are the two pieces of homebrew provided with the pandora battery release.
- Put the 1.50 official update on your memorystick. Not in any folders, just on there, the first part of memory Stick. This is the root. Once it's on there rename it from (it should be named eboot.pbp in the first place it doesn't matter if it isn't) eboot.pbp to update.pbp. Here to show you:

- Remove the Memory Stick and disable the USB connection. Again it doesn't matter which way round you do this.
- Run "installer" program the PSP. This application
will create the firmware files on the root of the Memory Stick, as well as msipl.bin. You do not need to move these files as they are all put in the right place by the program.
- Connect the Memory Stick again via the USB connection of the PSP.
- The last program made a file called msipl.bin find that file and copy it to the place next the "msinst" program on your PC. Once again open command prompt and drag and drop the program "msinst" over command prompt. Now type " 'your PSP drive letter' "(yes with spaces before and after) after that dont press enter, drag and drop the file msipl.bin over command prompt. Now you can press enter. It should ask you if your shure. Type "y" and press enter.
A little like this:

- Remove the Memory Stick and disable the USB connection.
- Reinsert the memorystick.
- Execute "battery" application on the PSP to modify the battery. You should have copied this earlier to your memorystick. Firstly if you want to convert this battery back to normal after it has been turned into a Jigkick one, press triangle. The batteries flash has been backed up to the root of your memorystick. You can reflash this later and turn your battery to normal.
- Once you have backed up your batterys flash you can press X and turn that sucker into a magic one.
- Congratulation, you are now in posession of a "Magic Memory Stick"
and a "JigKick Battery".

RECOVERING A BRICK

If your PSP is already bricked
- Power off your PSP.
- Insert the "Magic Memory Stick" into the PSP.
- Insert the JigKick Battery into the PSP.
- It will power on itself. Your Wi-fi and memory stick light will glow for a second. Even if the Wi-fi switch is off!!
- A menu appears when the PSP is done.
- If your PSP is bricked already then you shall need to choose the downgrade option, this way you will be sent to 1.50 firmware.

If your PSP isn't bricked and want to backup your flash
- Power off your PSP.
- Insert the "Magic Memory Stick" into the PSP.
- Insert the JigKick Battery into the PSP.
- It will power on itself. Your Wi-fi and memory stick light will glow for a second. Even if the Wi-fi switch is off!!
- A menu appears when the PSP is done.
- Make a NAND flash image by pressing circle. This file will include every file that is written to your PSP's Flash memory.
- Put your original battery in and start USB connection. Rename the file nand-dump.bin to nandimage.flash. Obviously using your PC.
- Now if you brick Power off your PSP.
- Insert the "Magic Memory Stick" into the PSP.
- Remove power cord (if plugged in) and insert the JigKick Battery into the PSP.
- It will power on itself. Your Wi-fi and memory stick light will glow or a second.
- A menu appears when the PSP is done.
- Press square and it will flash your exact flash from when you made the image. Yes even any custom XMB you have when you made the NAND image, so after you bricked you won't need to mess with reflashing your custom XMB

DOWNGRADING ANY PSP
- Power off the PSP.
- Insert the "Magic Memory Stick" into the PSP.
- Remove power cord (if plugged in) and insert the JigKick Battery into the PSP.
- It will power on itself. Your Wi-fi and memory stick light will glow for a second.
- Press square and the PSP will ask if you want to flash the ID-Storage as well. Never use this option unless you know what the risks are with ID-Storage. The PSP will be flashed with your NAND dump after you press X.
- Or before that step press X to flash a standard 1.50 Update, Ready to have a custom firmware flashed to it.

MAGIC BATTERY TO NORMAL BATTERY
- Start your PSP with the AC in and no battery.
- Once its started up put the Jigkick Battery in.
- Start USB Connection.
- Copy the magic battery creator to your magic memorystick. (if it isn't there already)
- After thats is copied (if it isn't there already) the program will start. Seen this screen before? Thats because you have!
- The only successful way I have found to restore your battery to a normal one with original flash is to, press square to write random version of flash. You can leave it here if you want but noone knows of there is a side effect to not having original flash. So if you have backed up your original battery flash restart the program and now you can press LTRIGGER and RTRIGGER to put it to normal. There is an error writing at 0x14 but everything is fine.
- You have to write a random flash first before your original because it restores your batteries flash but some reason thinks it's a jigkick still!! Writing a random one puts it to normal and flashing the original puts it back to how it was bought.
- Thats it your battery is back to normal.

MAGIC MEMORYSTICK TO NORMAL MEMORYSTICK
- Realy simple just turn on your PSP with a normal battery and Magic memorystick.
- Then go to system settings> format memory stick. Backup any files you want from the magic memorystick first!!
- Thats it your memorystick is back to normal

PANDORA BATTERY ON TA-802/6
- Once you have made yourself a pandora battery, stuff it in the TA-082/6 and downgrade it using the downgrader option not the restore NAND option.
- The downgrader option will patch the ID Storage for you. It uses the newest way to currupt only key 5. Using the restore NAND option doesn't currupt the ID Storage.
- Thats it after that you can install a custom firware

FAQ credits to ramonc091, as I used his FAQ
1) Pandora's batteries can NOT be blocked through Firmware Updates.

2) After executing msinst.exe, you might get
"write MS BOOT CODE
C:\>". Ignore it you are done.

3) Nand backups are saved as nand-dump.bin but in order to be restored they need to be renamed to nandimage.flash

4) 32 MB memory card are NOT supported, try anything higher.

5) Works on 1st and SOME 3rd party batteries. List PANDORA | battery compatibility thread - MaxConsole Forums

6) A "Special" memory stick can be used as a normal one BUT if you want to get rid of its IPL, format it in the PSP. Most PC will preserve it when formatting.

7) The "Special" files can NOT be used on a normal memory stick. It must have an IPL.

8) FAKE memory sticks appear to be working.

9) Once the a PSP is downgraded or unbricked using the 1.5 update in the root, the you have a fully installed 1.5.

10) The 1.5 UPDATE.PBP can be replace with any other Official Update But NOT with a Custom firmware one such as M33's. First unbrick\downgrade (to 1.5) then upgrade through the XMB.

11) In order to convert Pandora's Battery to a normal one: Turn PSP on with Power Cable plugged in but Pandora's Battery and Memory stick out, once in the XMB but both of them in. Under GAME execute the Pandora's Battery Creator not the Firmware Installer. In the Menu, press [].

12) It won't work in +4GB one because of the recovery firmware being 1.50 kernel based... however that's a matter of luck, it actually "could" work with a 8 GB, but not warranty of that.

13) The downgrader of the recovery firmware already has the patch to patch only the key 5.

4) For non-patched Key 5 TA-082/TA-086 PSPs, the recovery firmware itself, despite being 1.50 kernel based, can boot into ta-082+ without any keys patched (not even key 5), because it is patched directly at ipl level.

15) ANY PSP can be recover even if it has a corrupted IPL or idstorage destroyed, unless it has hardware issues.

16) It is unknown if it will work the PSP Slim & Lite, though Pandora's batteries will fit the new PSPs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlaySta...le_Slim_&_Lite

17) Even if the PSPs do NOT support 1.5 kernel, now with custom IPL, there is no need of 1.50 kernel to boot CFW, other firmware kernels can be used, though 1.5 is more "Dev-friendly"

18) Cool Pandora's Batteries are charged the same way as the normal ones.

19) If you BRICKED your "memory stick" while formatting and HAVE CFW: Load your PSP in Recovery Mode (press R while turning power on) or just remove the battery and put it back in) then Choose Toggle USB and properly format your memory stick through there.

20) Pandora's battery CAN mess up your idstorage by using someone else's nand-dump.bin/nandimage.flash (bios dump), BUT ONLY if you choose the option of flashing the idstorage with a bios dump of some one elses PSP then flashing the ID Storage with this button combination (L+R+START+SELECT). But using someone else's bios dump is safe if you flash it without the idstaorage.

21) It's possible to boot a Pandora Battery with an AC charger plugged in.

This isn't finished yet as I havr yet to test it on a 3.52 PSP, plus go into even more detail on the instructions part
