| GamingCrazy Guru ![]() | Re: Blu Ray Or HDDVD Appears Michael Bay has his own thoery on the format war: It's no secret that Michael "Transformers" Bay prefers his high definition optical discs in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], but what we didn't know was how convinced the man is that the whole format war is nothing but a stalling tactic, with Microsoft pulling all the strings. Responding to a commenter angry over Paramount's decision to burn Optimus and friends onto HD DVD only, Bay claims to have the inside track on the "corporate politics" at play here, suggesting that "Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads." He goes on to claim that Redmond has only been financially backing HD DVD over "superior Blu-ray" to create "confusion in the market" until such time as high def digital downloading goes prime time. In other words, if you believe Bay, Microsoft is backing a known loser in order to prolong a war it doesn't want anyone to win. Pretty wild theory, if you ask us -- hey, this guy should make movies. | GamingCrazy Semi-Addict ![]() | Re: Blu Ray Or HDDVD Adding blu ray to the PS3 was definitely a good choice for the Blu Ray guys. It basically forced people who wanted to buy a PS3 to also have a Blu Ray player, which thus increased market share and popularity. I believe 70% of Blu Ray owners are ps3 owners. W/O the PS3 having Blu Ray, HD-DVD would probably have already won! I don't care which wins, 1080p upscaling DVD player = SUFFICIENT. I'm not saying it matches the excellency of Blu Ray and HD-DVD but for now its good enough for me. I want a PS3 anyway so thats a free Blu Ray player, and Blu Ray will probably win.

| GamingCrazy Addict ![]() | Re: Blu Ray Or HDDVD I never really had much doubt, but with Warners declared support its over, Blu ray has won this one. I'm pretty happy about this for a couple of reasons: 1) I always own every game system, so I already have a PS3 and use its Blu ray functionality. 2) It IS a technically superiror product. Higher susteained bit rate = higher qulaity encoded content, even if using the same codec. Also the increased storage capacity is room enough for completely uncompressed audio. I always prefer higher fidelity, even if it costs me money (I would never think of listening to an MP3 for instance) - so the better format winning is good for me. I feel sorry for those that have invested in HD dvd - particularly those that bought the cheap ones for xmas. Few will understand it when they find they can't buy any high def movies in 8 months time.. |

| GamingCrazy Semi-Addict ![]() | Re: Blu Ray Or HDDVD im totaly on blu-rays side, but even though Warner Bros have switched totaly to blu-ray, there is still Paramount and Dreamworks still supporting HDDVD. Although Paramount have a contract saying if Warner Bros jump totaly to blu-ray, they can also, if they wish. |

| GamingCrazy Semi-Addict ![]() | Re: Blu Ray Or HDDVD Thats silly. Nobody knew which one would win. And when the PS3 came out, judging by its poor software and sales, people thought HD-DVD would win. There was no winner thats why it was called a BATTLE. People just chose who they thought would win, there was no clear winner at the time and even now HD-DVD still has a slight chance.

| GamingCrazy Newbie ![]() | Re: Blu Ray Or HDDVD HDDVD's chances are slimming as time goes on but I supported them in the beginning for some reason. I prefer just to stick to regular DVDs with my upconvert DVD player till a winner totally prevails. Blu Ray has the better selction right now though but the players cost too much Apple is trying to make the digital download thing be the next thing with Apple TV and movies in HD and they added the rental ability. I prefer to have an actual disc in my hand it makes me feel like I actually own it. |

thing like apple TV are not even in the same league and shouldn't be comapred at all. They are not even close to hit bit rate 1080P uncompressed audio and instead have limited resolution, higher compression and seriously compressed audio. I'm not doubting theres a market for this low end quallity, but its not even close to a true high end HD format experience. | |
