| GamingCrazy Addict ![]() | Did you know... America uses ten billion dollars a year on foreign affair, the same amount they waste on pornagraphy. Fascinating no? Now, for a more interesting topic, because the above one speaks for itself. Did you know that in an average week, 88 students are suspended for bringing a gun to school? Can you believe it, 88! Isn't that a bit...too much? So far, in the last ten years, there have been eighteen school shootings, now, if you ask me, that is quite a large number! And then there are those that are yet to come. Seriously, after all of these school shootings, what have we done to prevent another one? Over the years, there have been many possible reasons on what could/can drive a student to do these things. One of this things have been emphasized, but done nothing about. And that is bullying. Now, what is bullying? Simply, the constant mistreatment from one person to another. Everyone says bullying is a bad thing, and everyone agrees that it should be stopped, but does anyone do anything? Most of these students that contemplate homocide are social outcastes, loners, weirdos. They are almost everything negative in a person, so who wants to help them? No, the bigger question is...what makes them social outcastes? Another thing is how we treat these people, how we treat each other. How we react to the emotional needs of another. Have you noticed that now a days, if someone is feeling sad, they are often greeted with the words or phrase "You're an emo"? We don't take in account what other people want, nor their needs, we neglect others, and only focus on ourselves, in other words, us as a society, are self-centered. A website stated what, in their mind, was the main problem that lead to these drastic measures; "a society that generates large scale economic redundancy as well as personal isolation and alienation amidst an artificial and extremely hostile environment towards mental health. All of this is occurring amidst a mainstream culture that has its language and symbols defined by a commercial mass-media that perpetuates false expectations to motivate rampant consumerism. Fear, insecurity, and inadequacy are powerful marketing forces that have unintended psychological consequences on the unsuspecting public". Now, ponder on that for a little bit. What normally dictates our moves, our actions, our motives? The media, they, unknowing to you at times, make you believe certain things, make you act in a certain way. How many of us have an idol that frequently appears on TV? Now, you may wonder, what does this have to do with anything? Well, it has a lot to do with this. The media dictates what is the norm and what is not, what makes a social outcast a social outcast. For example, after a show on MTV a couple of years back, the "emo look" has gained quite a bit of popularity, and now celebreties, singers and bands have that "emo look". But, the thing you rarely hear from famous people is their emotional needs. Have you ever heard Johny Depp complain about not having enough space? have you ever heard someone famous complain about something emotionally and NOT get insulted? And because of that, we expect all those around us to not complain about anything, to always keep it to themselves. And if they do, what do we do? The same thing as the media, we critize them, we insult them, we treat them worst than we treat our trash! For school shootings to stop, we need to realize that no one is godlike, we all have our needs and should be respected. We all act different, and should be respected. We are humans, not robots. We shouldn't let TV and famous people dictate on how we dress and how we act. And most importantly, like the old saying goes; "Treat others how you would like to be treated" ~Thank you for reading this, if you did.
