If only Nintendo had as much success in the UK and US as it does in Japan, I wonder if the Wii will change that.

With regards to Japan, teh DS always beats the sales of the PSP, and its a known fact now, that the sales of the 360 in Japan, were and still are less than expected.

If u think about it, Japan has more technology than us, so a PSP is just another one of those things. I mean, what can a PSP do? Games, music, movies, music, internet, RSS. My mobile phone can do all of that. True with not as great graphics and has a smaller screen, but it can still do all of that.

But touch screen for games. Well its no wonder really is it. Yeh PDAs can have touch screen, but do they have good games to match? Nope, thats why the DS sells more in Japan anyway.

I'd like to know the sales for US/UK with regards to PSP/DS as I always only seem to be able to find news about the Japan sales because the DS is beating the PSP, but its the same everymonth, so why anyone makes a deal of it now, I don't know.

And also, if ppl hate the DS, then let them hate the DS. If they've played it, and had a go with it etc, then they are more than welcome to not like it. But if they hate it simply because it's Nintendo or not as good as the PSP, well then, thats isnt based on anything really, only assumption or prejudice and so who cares what they think anyway?

I own both, and love both. My DS hardly got any use though, but now with the redesign and release of the DS Lite, I'm proud to own a DS Lite, as it isnt classed as a kids gaming machine anymore in my opinion. And I have to charge the battery lots.

And in my opinion, no one can be a PS3 hater, as it isn't even out yet, so how can they hate it based on the specs etc? Same as someone whos never held a DS.

Bex you made some valid points, but what hasn't been brought up yet is that sony just jumped into the portable industry, something that nintendo has had a monopoly on for 15 years.

I don't think that sony was expecting to beat out the DS in its first round, it is just trying to get SOME hold on the market and hopefully do much better second generation.

Ah yeh, that is another good point as well.
Many ppl would stick with to buyin the DS, as Nintendo is well renowned for their handhelds, and are the number one handheld makers. I think Nintendo are more well known for their handhelds than their consoles. So many ppl could just stick with buying a DS as they know that Nintendo make good handhelds. And because of this, some ppl wont know if the PSP turns out a success or not, as it could have turned out like the Gamegear.

But after a year, the PSP is still going strong.

Also, u say its from the month of July the report? Well July and August were very quiet months for PSP game releases, espcially in the UK. June we seemed to have an influx of good games, and then it went quiet, but the number of good games is being picked up again this month, and from what Ive been readin October and November too seem to have good PSP releases which could see the PSP sales pick up again. But on the other hand, I'm not up to date with what games the DS is releasing when, and it will probably be the case that there will be a lot of good DS games being released to rival the PSP sales, as it would make perfect business sense. Not to have a slow month with regards to releases and good game releases for that matter when a rival company is gettin loads of good games released.

...now, as for the info that I've posted; it's for those "people" who have said that graphic is everything and that gameplay comes second. There's too many people in here that loves graphics more then anything...I can name a few but I'm not going to.
I admit that I'm a graphic whore but it only last for so long. For example: PSP games, I have not yet play any games for more then a hour. So far I can't stop playing Advance War DS...and believe me the graphic sucks in that game...but somehow I can't put it down.

...but please don't get me wrong, I own both and like them both. I just wish people stop saying "psp is better cause it has better graphics"...I mean how many time do you see that line in the PSP section?...

...but my point has been made with the sales and success of the DS; I remembered when every video game web-sites picked PSP to crush the DS...and boy I could just see the look on their faces...LOL!

my friend got ds need for speed and i got psp need for speed.....it's a total opposite
ds clearly suhks way more, but they come out with more "creative hands on fun stuff"

The facts at the beginning of the thread is for Japan. The whole world doesn't revolve around Japan's games. If they were, then we would all see a buttload more Hentai and dating simulation games overseas. Alot of games on DS in Japan never make the translation overseas anyways.
DS hater? Well, for me personally I don't like the DS because it has no game that appeal to me. That is all. It is an ok system but I don't like the games that are on it. Kid games or not.
Anyway, the PSP is callled and used as an entertainment machine. It is Sony's view. Innovative or not, it is here to entertain.

You're Wrong! if that's the case then tell me why M$ invested millions of dollar to get the Japanese to buy the 360?...to make a long story short; if a gaming machine is to be successful it needs the support of Japanese developers. Can you name a "successful" console that doesn't "revolve" around Japan?....I think not.

Microsoft invested lots of money in the Japanese market because they are quite a big market to conquer and plus, Japaneses people have alot more money to spend on games than alot of Euros. Breaking into the Japanese market will give them a bigger share in the gaming section and a firm dominance in the console industry.
A successful console that didn't revovle around Japan was the Xbox. It online function made it easy to play with people all over the world and bring people together. It was a huge hit in the US and the rest of the world. That is alot bigger than Japan.

The thing about people comparing the Palm Pilots to a DS is utterly ridiculous. The Palmtop is an organiser and yet the DS fanboys are comparing the games to it? How many kids even use palm pilots? Even so, how many of them use it to keep their life in check? Adults use palm tops and they dont use it for games.
