Silly rabbit, tricks are for kids!...just kidding, it's an easy problem to remedy what you need to do is go into your bag, then go to key items, and provided you have an item called "Pal Pad" if so select to use it, then a menu should show up with 3 options:

Check Friend Roster

Register Friend Code

-Your Name's- Code

The third option is what you want, it will have your name and your code, if you don't have the Pal Pad, go to the lower level of any pokemon center, if you haven't been downstairs before they will give you the item the minute you get off the escalator.

This only applies if you don't have the item, as a note, you need at least 1 badge to do trades at the GTS. For me the downstairs area opened up after my 2nd badge, for you it might be different. Don't take my word on it. You have to find that out on your own. I made this video to help you out, sorry about it being sideways in the begining, I didn't realize it was tilted, of course I fixed it where it counts.
