Because the DS Lite came out only a year ago and is still selling incredibly strong. Not all companies release products as fast as Apple releases iPods, they instead release one, milk it for all its worth, release an update. Then in like 6 years from the original they release a completely new one. (I am talking about handhelds, not consoles).

I can almost guarantee you that they'll never make a DS 2. They've never made anything # 2. You get more streamlined models of handhelds (GBA->SP->MICRO). Systems may get add on upgrades (N64-RAM Cart, GC-Modem, Gameboy Player, etc). Otherwise the next thing will be something brand spankin new. And seeing how Nintendo likes to innovate. Any specualtory guessing will be about as useful as 10,000 monkeys with typewriters, there's no telling what it'll do (in a good way).

I don't think they'd release a new DS right now. They might just be focusing on DS upgrades right now.

Well if they do make a new DS it would suck because I just got my new white DS today with Pokemon Pearl.And I have to say its great.Now I have to walk around with both my PSP and DS Lite
