R4 or M3 Adapter...which is best?

Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for your assitance. I am new to the DS mod/hacking scene, but have hacked/modded XBOX's and PSP's since Day1. So, I have some basic understanding about the the scene, but TOTALLY new to the DS system and just got a used one for my son. So, it seems like running emulators and roms is alot easier on the DS then all the hoops I had to jump through for the PSP in the past. So, I would love to know which SLOT 1 adaptor is the best: M3 or R4? I have tons of emulator roms, and emulator programs, homebrew, etc. that I would love to run on his DS. It seems like both adaptors use a micro sd card slot, for huge memory for files, and the adapter themselves contain the flash program to run homebrew and GBA/DS roms on the DS unit. If I wanted to run my existing emulator roms, GBA roms, NDS roms, etc. do I need anything additional, like a SLOT 2 card/expansion pack as well? Is running homebrew apps and roms actually as simple as buying one of these adapters, and a micro sd card, and just drop/drag onto the card? Please let me know...your help is greatly appreciated!!!

The are both pretty much the same. I have an r4 and I am happy with it. If you want to play gba games, then you need to get a slot 2 cart. I don't know about homebrew or emulator cause I don't use them.

Thanks, Coolie! Does the R4 support High Capacity micro cards, 4GB and larger? I read about the Evolution (CYCLO DS) card and apparently IT has the ability to run GBA roms without a SLOT 2 card...is that true? Also, what SLOT 2 card would I use with in conjunction with the R4...and would they run together at the same time? Thanks again!!!

I think the r4 does not support high capacity micro cards at the moment. But they might come out with an update to do it. Just use the 2gb, that's what I am using right now. All the games are really small so don't worry about the 4gb.

I don't know about the cyclo ds being able to play gba roms without a slot2.

You can pretty much get any slot 2 card.

They run separately, but you can also put your nds roms on the slot 2 card.
if you were to get a slot 2, then I would recommend getting this

Nice! I read that the M3 supports HC micro cards 4GB and larger...and I heard that the makers of the R4 designed the M3 too...so I would assume that the R4 supports the HC micro cards as well. Where did u get the great deal on the M3 PACK? When u say "GBA support" does that mean that the SLOT1 card handles the GBA roms, or that the expansion pack that came with it (for SLOT 2) does? Let me know...thanks!!!

Re: R4 or M3 Adapter...which is best?

If its just DS games u want to play, and homebrew, and NOT GBA games, then get the R4DS.

Putting the roms on it, is so much simpler than the M3.

But, if u want to play GBA games, get the M3..........................u can get GBA games to play with R4DS, but, i need to learn how to do so, so i cants tell ya, but yeah, for putting DS roms on, the R4DS is the most simplest.
