Is it at all possible to play backup games, w/o a modcip?

For the methods look [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

And for buying the backups look [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

You also can copy them from the original ones, or download the ISO from some torrent site like Mininova, piratebay, or blackcats, and burn them to blank DVDs....

why would u get a ps2 now with the ps3, xbox 360 and the nintendo revolution are right around the corner?

swap magic is what you need to play backups without a modchip. consolepoint for swapmagic. get 3.6plus since some games like GoW wont work on 2.0

you can also use hdd loader but i wouldnt bother since ps3 comming
