NES ON PS1/Run Burnt Iso's without modchip

How to play Nes (Nintendo Entertainment System) games on a Sony Playstation And Play Burnt Games Without Modchip.
By James [W0MB13] Reed

1. First thing you will need to download is "It Might Be Nes", v1.3.2 is the latest version. You can obtain this on [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

2. The next thing you will need is some Nes roms. Best thing to do is to download large packs of Nes roms which you can get off p2p (Kazaa) and Bittorrent.

3. Open It Might be Nes Rombank.exe and add all of your Nes roms. Click the disk image when you are done to make an Iso. Burn the iso onto disk.

4. The following step is how you will run the Nes disk on your Playstation and this method can also be used to play games which have been burnt without the need of a modchip.

NOTE : This method only works on The Large Sony Playstation Models, not on the newer PS1 models.

5. Open up your Playstation and look up the back inside the area where the disk sits. In the far right corner you will see a pointed piece of plastic. Underneath that there is a small button. That button activates the disk spin mechanism. When you close the lid the pointed piece of plastic will push on the button so that the disk will only spin when the lid is closed. Get some Blue Tack and put it over the button so that it is permanently pressed down. If you've done it right, disks will still spin when the lid is up.

6. The next steps may be daunting at first but after some practice you will get used to it and find it simple. The Playstation has two spin speeds, 1x and 2x. 2x obviously being faster than 1x. Put a genuine Playstation game in and watch it spin as it loads till you can recognise the difference between 1x and 2x.

7. This is the method. Put a genuine Playstation game disk into the drive. At first it will spin at 1x during the white Playstation screen. Then just before it goes to the black Playstation screen it will go at 2x. As soon as it goes to 2x swap the disk with your Burnt/Nes disk. If you did it fast enough then it will proceed to the black screen. If you did it too slow then it won't, keep trying. It will go from 2x to 1x then back to 2x and back to 1x. Then second time it goes to 1x switch immediately to the genuine game disk. Immediately after the genuine game disk is entered it will go back to 2x again. As soon as it goes back to 2x put the Burnt/Nes disk in. If you did it right it will load, if you didn't then keep trying because I guarantee it works. Its all about timing.

If you didn't quite understand that last bit, here is a snippet from Planetnintendo.com/superpope explaining the process.

Success: 100%
Problems: Do not kid yourself, this method is difficult. The end result is well worth it (especially if you have no other options).

Note: 1x and 2x refer to the CD motor speed (single speed and double speed), watch a few of your games boot up with the lid open and you can easily see and hear the "gear changes".

  • Insert your local CD.
  • Remove the local CD when the motor changes to 2x and replace it with your foreign CD. [If you did this right, you *SHOULD* see the black PS screen now.]
  • Watch and listen to the CD motor. It will slow down and then speed back up to 2x. After a few seconds, the CD motor will slow down again. Replace with your local CD once again.
  • After another half second or so, the local CD will speed up again. Finally replace your foreign CD.
  • NOTE: The last two swaps must be done very quickly.
You should be able to find more emu's on Zophar.net
Enjoy!

Re: NES ON PS1/Run Burnt Iso's without modchip

Hehe if it was true then I'd have done that when it was possible. I tried to do this 4-5 years back when I had a PS1, but after 3 months of getting my hands dirty with every possible method I found out the hard way that it's not possible.

So based on that it's most likely false, then again I've never tried this specific method on my large PS1 as it seems like a recent development, so hey it might work. Tell me if you PC survives after using it

It actually worked? Haha that's crazy considering PS1 hacking hasn't been done in years now. How is the compatibility rate on it?

The best part is that by usimg that same method you can also play real ps1 games from a burnt disc! The only major problem ive had is the fact that the music might not play but the game will run smoothley. However i have gotten Megaman Legends 2 to work perfectly(with music and sound effects) on it. Ive also herd you can play sega master system games on a ps1 usin this technique too but i havnt gotten it to work yet. It all depends on the ISO you r using/downloaded.

Ive tried this over 200 times (and counting) and i get to the last step where you swap to your burnt CD right as the screen turns black, and it just stays black...

could it be the game im using? Its final fantasy 8

Well i personally dont pay attention to the screen until after im done with the swap. I Only pay attention to the disc. I usually use a demo disc for the swapping, just in case the real disc getts messed up somehow(which it hasnt so far) it will only be a demo disc. A few weeks ago i got a burnt version of FFtactics to work perfectly(cutscenes, which occasionally get choppy but overall work great, music and graphics) wut you gotta do is pay attention to the speed at which the disc is turning. before swapping if your not good at it, i recommend watching a real ps1 disc boot so you can observe the speed difference. It could be your copy of ff8, maybe the iso isnt that great or you didnt burn it well but i doubt it. When the screen turns black your disc should spin faster then QUICKLY swap. you have to be on time, but after succesfully doing it once or twice you will get the pace down. I also like to close the playstation after the last swap to make sure that the lid is closed.
