ELSPA busts UK console chippers in new crime fighting initiative
Yesterday, a newly formed enforcement partnership swooped on 'video games criminals' to 'bag video game console chipping criminals'. Three people from the North East of England were put up for investigation after being alleged of producing and selling modified games chips for the Wii, DS, 360, Xbox, PS2 and PSP. Police officers, trading standards authorities and members of ELSPA all hit three premises simultaneously. A husband and wife in their late 30s were questioned over the discovery of a small extension 'full to the brim' with console chips as well as other chips. At another address a man in his late 20s living with his grandmother was also found to possess a 'chipping line'. Thousands of chips were found as well as blank media, duplicating systems and piles of consoles waiting to be chipped. It is alleged that at least two of the three suspects questioned offered pirated games for sale online. Full story can be read here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
