| GamingCrazy Addict ![]() | Sony: We'd love Microsoft and Toshiba on-board the Blu-ray train Sony: We'd love Microsoft and Toshiba on-board the Blu-ray train Sony has openly invited Microsoft and Toshiba (creators of the HD-DVD format) to join them at the Blu-ray disc association. Two Blu-ray executives were asked which companies they'd most like to have in their camp and they responded by saying Toshiba and Microsoft. Will MS and Toshiba accept their invitation? Something tells us they certainly won't... quote: Sony Pictures has openly invited Toshiba and Microsoft to join the Blu-ray Disc Association. The comment above comes from Don Eklund, executive vice president of advanced technologies and Rich Marty, vice president, new business development, after Pocket-lint asked which companies they would most like to have in the Association, following the announcement from Acer that it would start to sell PCs with Blu-ray drives. "We would love to have Toshiba and Microsoft on board," said Don Eklund in an interview with Pocket-lint at IFA in Berlin, Germany. News Source: pocket-lint.co.uk |

| GamingCrazy Addict ![]() | Re: Sony: We'd love Microsoft and Toshiba on-board the Blu-ray train Blu-Ray is doing a lot better, just google it. One of the interesting views is this image... ![]() Kinda odd to see blu-ray going futher as what was one of the critial winning points for VHS selling better than Beta was the fact that the porno industry backed VHS. Then again, you couldn't buy a console back then with a media player on it. So, even though sales of X360 are higher, the fact it's not built into the system means that only uber gamers really will want in on HD-DVD addons while most other casual gamers or part-timers will by a seperate HD-DVD player any way. But, if a PS3 has a built in BR player, then people will more likely buy BR than fork out extra money (in one way or another) to play a movie. If it's there, use it. Doesn't have to be a better format; VHS wasn't as good as Beta (sound quality on Betas was a lot better). So Sony now knowing they have put it's PS3 to good use in that they given cosumers all they want in one package using the "lock-in" method unlike MS business plan being to use a "complimentaries"; they are turning round saying "hey, we got what people want, feel free to join us and make it easier for them" because those companies don't want to loose out and rather join in. EDIT: Just to addon; the two top companies, Walt Disney and 20th Century Fox, are the BIGGEST media players in the field. So if you want Family Guy (News Corp owned), then you'll probably need a BR player.

| Don't Care ![]() | Re: Sony: We'd love Microsoft and Toshiba on-board the Blu-ray train Well can't it be said that Sony got all these people on their side as they thought the PS3 was going to sell like hotcakes? Not saying that Sony might not make it in the end....but for now these people jumped on the Sony side for the sake that they thought the popularity would be that of the extent of the PS2 or one.... |

| GamingCrazy Addict ![]() | Re: Sony: We'd love Microsoft and Toshiba on-board the Blu-ray train Bugger for these guys is they are stuck with Sony for the next X number of years and everybody knows that. Sony have cornered the market well, just that consumers haven't caught up yet either side of the fence.
