mortal kombat for the sega genesis was the game that got me hooked. i was around 2-4 when i started playing. But the games that got me addicted would be d2lod and halo pc.

I had a few consoles and stuff when i was young but i was never hooked...
I used to play some football game on the Nes quite abit... think it was called 'Score' or something... oh no it was 'GOAL' thats the one!

but until Super Mario World on the Snes, also the original Mario Kart i played both for days on end!

This thread makes me feel old. I can't specifically remember what games made me a gamer because all my friends were about 5 years older then me so i basically grew up with them teaching me to play and get better so i could compete at their level. But i'd like to go over a few memories that kept me playing (and still playing) over the years.

- Uncalculatable amounts of time spent racing and battling in super mario kart on snes, seriously, it would be easier for me to try to calculate the time in terms of weeks or hundreds of hours, and every single battle or race was life and death to my friends and I

-Buying Chrono Trigger the day it came out for about $110 and spending the entire (meaning no eating or bathroom) day playing it (beat magus the first day) before spending the next entire day playing it more.

-playing pokemon red under the covers at 2am with a flashlight on my GB Pocket because a friend had blue and we were competing so i couldn't let him get ahead.

-Getting detention the day the ps1 came out and conning my parents into still renting one (yes you can rent consoles) by buying them 2 mugs at a school craft fair that said "I love my mommy/daddy" in ridiculously childish crayon. I was playing twisted metal one that night.

-Discovering some old Atari games like Joust at a friends house during a sleepover, again, i don't think we slept, we just Jousted the **** out of each other.

-Same friend as above, different sleepover, different game: Tekken 3, a slightly deeper game then Joust, for sure, and possibly even more addictive, it was the first time either one of us stayed up all night playing a game, when 8am rolled around and it was light out neither of us could believe it and by that point sleep was shot anyways so we kept playing

Those are just a few cases that stood out for me, i've been very lucky though i've had something of a games education by way of my older friends. and i've been lucky enough to enjoy the glory days of the Snes and the memories of playing some true classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7, and all the other memories of just having fun with my friends sharing the hobby. So thats what made me a gamer, it wasn't like one game but i think for me it's the feeling that you get when you know your discovering something new to you, or the first time you stay up all night playing without realizing it. and it doesn't even have to be the newest game out like me and my friend playing joust, hell that was after the PS1 was out.

I have to say gameboy pocket. I used to hav sooo many games 4 it and loved it. I had zelda, mario megaman, final fantasy and a bunch others.
