PSP 2003 Slim 4.05 Downgrade or Restore

Hi all, I've been trying to install cfw on my psp 2003 for weeks now and after about a dozen attempts and many hours searching the forums I've been unsuccessful. This forum has been by far the most helpful, so I thought I'd post here for advice.

I bought my psp off ebay and all I know is that its a 2003 slim and light and is running official 4.05 firmware. I can post serial numbers etc if you need them.

I'm aware that some of the slim psps can't be hacked and I'm praying that mine isn't one of them!

I purchased a pandora battery from Code Junkies and have tried a couple of different Sony Memory Sticks. I can't seem to access the Pandora menu by holding L when inserting the battery (X doesn't work either). If I try to run the software through the Game--> Memory Stick menu it doesn't work either.

Is there a way to downgrade my psp from 4.05? I will try restoring the factory settings through the System menu to check what firmware it came supplied with but I've got a feeling that its 4.00 or newer. Would a factory restore help or is it a waste of time?

Many thanks in advance!

Waste of time, if you have tried several known working pandora setups on it with no response then it is most likely one of the unhackable models. These started showing up with 4.01 official firmware or higher(a few 3.95's were also affected).

There is now a 5.03 ChickHEN exploit that will allow you to run some homebrew but not ISO's. There is a thread on it I think in the PSP News section. Still for now custom firmware is not available for those models.

Thanks for the quick reply, Gandalf.

Onto Ebay it goes then!

I'll have to get hold of an older version but prefer the slim - any advice on how to tell if it's hackable? If i ask ebay sellers for serial no's etc?

Cheers,

Chris

Don't know if color is an issue but check for some old Daxter Packs or some of the other old bundles. Serial # doesn't really help any, no real # cut off or sequence, pretty random, they just started appearing around late last summer and early fall, there were a few 3.95's but most have been 4.01 or higher. There has been a very small % of 4.01's that were hackable but not many.
