Homebrew FAQ

FAQ ABOUT HOMEBREW:

Q: What is homebrew?
A: Homebrew is everything that has to do with old(er) games. It are emulation for i.e. NES, SNES, N64 and so on. It also includes downloaded games.

Q: Can I play homebrew on all firmware versions?
A: No, at this moment u can only play homebrew on 1.00 and 1.50, but if you're at 1.51 or 1.52 you can get to 1.50 by first upgrading to 2.00 and then using the MPH Downgrader. Ofcourse you can also downgrade from 2.00 to 1.50 using that MPH downgrader. At this moment there is a loader out for 2.00, but that one only supports emulators at this time, but I think there will be one soon that supports kernel mode (something that is required to use Fastloader and UMDEmulator).

Q: What do I need to use this homebrew?
A: What you need is a PSP (duh ), an emulator for an older console or a downloaded game, Fastloader/UMDEmulator (check link to topic below) (there are more, but these are the best), a large memory stick (small sizes like 256MB are enough for the emulators, but you'll need 512MB-1GB for a downloaded game)and a Memory Stick reader (in your PC) or an USB Mini B cable.

Q: OK, I've got all those, what to do now?
A: Use the following guide (credits to Dankchild) :
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Q: And how do I get those games playing?
A: Go to the Game option on your PSP, choose Memory Stick and go to the 'evil smiley face'. Press X and there's your list of games u just placed on your memory stick .

Question by "Haruko-chan"
Q: What if I can't make a correct downgrade?
A: If you mean what happens if it goes wrong; if the power shuts down (of your house) you're pretty f**ked. I think it's bricked when that happens. You're always in trouble if something goes wrong whilst the up-/downgrade with the PSP.
But almost the only thing that can go wrong is that the power goes off.
Nothing else dangerous out there (besides the b*tches that bring out virussed downgraders , but you're always safe if you get it from a safe site, like PSPCrazy.com or PSP-hacks.com).

Question by "puzzledazn"
Q: Do you know if there's any news about loaders/emulators for 2.5 or 2.6?
A: I dó think it's gonna take some time. But I think there will be a downgrader for it faster then a loader.

Q: I have another question, what to do?
A: Ask the question in this topic, I'll answer and edit this post.

I know this is a small FAQ at this time but it'll fill with YOUR questions!
