BREAKING NEWS: PS3 euro launch

ok I just found this now . PS3 will be released on europe on march 23 with 30 games for release day [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] --------------------------------------------------------------------------

for those that wan the hole thing without clicking on the link here is the hole article
Sony's PlayStation 3 finally has a release date for Europe and PAL territories. Originally meant to have a worldwide launch in November 2006, the PS3 saw its European launch [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] because of production issues with blue-laser diodes. Now, according to Sony, the PS3 will debut in Europe and Australasia on March 23.
The other PS3 detail up in the air was the console's final price in some of the regions. Sony is forgoing the dual-SKU approach it took in the US and Japan and only releasing the 60GB model--initially. As previously revealed at E3 2006, the console will retail for 599 euros (approximately $777) in Europe, but it will fetch GBP425 ($836) in the UK, AUD999.95 ($781) in Australia, and NZ1199.95 ($840) in New Zealand. To compare, the same model of the console retails for $599 in the US.
The 20GB model will be available later according to Sony, but hasn't yet been priced. "Responding to retail and consumer demand, SCEE confirmed that initially only the 60GB model would be available, with the 20GB model to follow later in the year dependent on demand."
There will be 28 retail games available for the console's "launch period," as well as eight games for download on the PlayStation Network. Among the games are familiar titles from other regional launches (Resistance: Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7, Call of Duty 3) as well as anticipated games yet to be released in the US (The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Virtua Fighter 5, Def Jam: Icon). This doesn't necessarily mean that all games will be available on March 23--Sony does not define how long its "launch period" lasts. A full list of the launch lineup is below.
This announcement comes after uncertainty and speculation that the March date would be pushed back again, fueled by Sony CEO Howard Stringer himself, who [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] that the "European launch in April...is very important to us." Both [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] later issued statements reaffirming that the March date was still on, and that Stringer had simply made a mistake when he mentioned the April date. However, towards the end of January, there were still no firm date or pricing details.
The PlayStation 3 launched last year in Japan on November 11 and in the US on November 17. High demand and low supply left many who had camped out for the systems empty-handed in the US. As a result, the US launch was plagued by a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], including muggings, robberies, and shootings.
However, that may not be the case in Europe in Australasia, as Sony promises 1 million units will be available for the launches in those regions. Sony only recently announced it had shipped 1 million units to both [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Re: BREAKING NEWS: PS3 euro launch

I knew the Euro/OZ launch will turn out ok. The list is good. The lineup is stronger than US/Japan and they have more time to prepare. This is just like the Xbox360 launch. It was alot better than Japan/US and all the games that they were waiting for came out for us. It is looking promising.

The good thing too, if people are waiting to play something, there are still alot of games coming out in Feburary for Aus too. King Of Fighters XI, Okami and the big gun FFXII. Still, on after for March, there is still some life for the PS2. KOF Maximum Impact 2 will finally come by and also God Of War 2. Its going to be a good period for gaming then.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: PS3 euro launch

Oh...lucky? I see your point but, I dont call paying $836 lucky. I was hoping that would change when the release date was set.

Great that Sony have made up their minds at last though. Disappointing though, I won't pay more for the PS3 than the rest of the world so the release date is pretty insignificant to me .

Re: BREAKING NEWS: PS3 euro launch

zMastaa, the Xbox360 in Australia came out pretty much one year ago here. At that time, it became the biggest selling console at launch ever before being overtaken by the anticipated Wii. It didn't have the Xmas sale rush to deal with and still sold successfully. As it so happens, it pretty much mirrors what happened for the 360 launch. More games, better lineup and likely a good launch for downunder. It will do well. Not great by beating records and all but I am positive it will turn out fine.

Stephy, the Austrailian public has known and already accepted the $1000 price tag we have here. Pre-orders still go through, not too many minded that it was delayed and it was known about the price for a long time already. Since E3 last year. Too me, having known the price for half a year doesn't bother me anymore. To alot of consumers, they also already knew the total price when pre-ordering in the 1st place. I mean, why did they pre-order when they have been told repeatedly that it will be $1000? The price is high but people aren't that stupid not to hear and read the preorder form which clearly states the price. It is on the posters too which is an enlarged preorder form.

Alot of people complain about the price but lets face it. There will still be people buying nevertheless.

Only thing left is to convince Sony Entertainment Europe to get EVERYBODY"S GOLF 5!!

The price does bother me. Knowing the price for a while doesn't make it any less of a rip off. Sure people are going to buy the PS3 anyway but thats irrelevant to me. Let me complain about the price. Its a justifiable complaint. If you're willing to pay more for the Ps3 then good luck to you. I'm not. If Sony had released in Europe earlier I'd have had less time to think about it and I might've rushed out and bought one - works both ways.

Whether the PS3 sells well or not....personally, I don't care - charge us more for the same thing and Sony lose my support.

When it launches imma ask them when they gonna get and im gonna be expecting "maybe around xmas when the price drops" lol

Re: BREAKING NEWS: PS3 euro launch

Well great that theres finally a launch date for it, but, I wanted one, but I've had more time to think about it, and I see loads of ppl complain about the $600 price tag. And we have to pay $836 for it. Sod that, I was gonna get it, but, I'm not gonna pay $200 more than what it is in America, when even Americans are complaining about the price.
I do want one, I do, but, not when I have to pay sooo much more than the US. Sure if it were just a lil bit more, I wouldn't be complainin as much, but when its $200 more?!! Jeeze

And yet, at the same time, tempted to get one, to sell on ebay anyway lol And ya know, I actually can afford the PS3, so i'm not ing about the price because I can't afford it. If it were £310, I'd think bout it, as it makes it bout $600 then, but, until then, sod Sony
