Only thing the 60 gig PS3 (that's what mine was before the hard drive swap) isn't backwards compatable with is original PlayStation cheat discs. It will not work with them. It works with PS2 cheat discs (Codebreaker, GameShark, etc.) just fine. But not with PlayStation (original) cheat discs. No idea why this is, but it is so.

I also changed out my HD for a much larger 250gb seagate momentus, exactly like you said it was effortlessly. I do have one question to anyone who can answer this question. If I bought the 40gb model and I change out the HD will that make it backwards compatable? I do not think so but I wanted to ask the question.

Re: 10 PS3 Tricks You Should Know

it will not.backwards compatible depends on the software installed on the ps3.tho older 1s (the 1 i have) had the emotion engine (ps2 engine) installed allowing backward compatibility.the newer ones dont.to be honest,i havent even touched a ps2 OR a ps1 game since i got my ps3...same thing when i got my ps2...i wouldnt want to play a last gen game on a current get console tbh

But it's worth it. I just picked up FFXII (PS2) and can't stop playing it! Can't wait for the new FF to come out! Also I'll prolly pick up GT4 since it's on sale @ target.
