The system does allow you to install Linux OS on it to make it an alternative PC. Basic hardware features: A hard disk drive varies from model: 20, 30, 60 & 80. It allows the option to replace the HDD yourself with something bigger if wanted. SIXAXIS Controller. <-- No rumble just yet. Blu-ray drive which can play all forms of optical disk except HD-DVDs. Ethernet and Wireless connection. Connection also has bluetooth as well. HDMI port version 1.3. The Xbox's HDMI is only 1.2. Standard AV cable included to work on the most basics of TVs. HDMI and component cables not included. The older models 20, 60, 80gb models have a card reader which can read Compact Flash, SD and Memorystick duos. It came with an Ethernet cable as well. The Xbox can do the majority of things the PS3 can do except: Browse the internet. Upscale DVDs. Be quiet. There really isn't much difference between the Xbox in terms of basic features. Added Linux OS is the biggest thing for people who want to make the most out of the system. There are more features that could be stated but I am mostly refering to the 40GB model because it is the standard now and people shouldnt be confused with facts. Eg: 40GB PS3 model lacks: Cards reader 2 USB ports (originally had 4) No backward compatibility in any way for PS2 games. I think PS1 games are out too but only workable through downloadable PSN versions. Not packed with ethernet cable.

| Re: i'm thinking of buy one, help me im thinking of buying one also... can anyone help me figure out the difference between the older version vs. the newer ones. I want the PS3 to play PS2 games but some of the PS3s in the market are no longer backwards compatible.

| **Sony's Mod** ![]() | Re: i'm thinking of buy one, help me if you want a ps3 that is BC, then you're only options are the 60gb (best for backwards compatability, but are no longer made), or a 80gb (not as much BC, and it's via software instead of hardware) which you can find pretty easily these holidays, as retailers have begun to LOAD. UP.

| Re: i'm thinking of buy one, help me can you clarify wht the 80 gb is not so good for bacwards compatability as the 6ogb? I thought the only different thing was the size of the hard drive? Did the firmware change on the 80 or is it the hardware? Please clarify on the "its more software than hardware"?
