Sonic the HedgeHog Review (PS3 Version)

Before i start the review I'd like to say im a hard core sonic fan. I love Sonic just as much as i love my final fantasy classics. Sonic is the super speed super hero, but unfortunately no matter how many times i play the PS3 version of the game i can't seem to wonder did he die back in 97?

This game is essentially an RPG version of Sonic but instead of Turn-Based battles (Interesting idea Sega!) it has real time battles which is how sonic games should be, Fast and Real Time. The only issue is that the RPG element is almost non-existant in the game and it's more or less just something you do to obtain around 5 items in the game. You can play the game with Sonic in the beginning and then later on you can play through shadow, and silvers storyline.

Who's up for a round of 1 on 1 soccer?

Graphics:
This games graphics are actually pretty good, everything feels like a next-gen game, and overall the graphics are smooth. Unfortunately when your racing down the slopes or speeding up the building you hit this thing that makes your brain hurt, its called lag where i come from . The lag is one of the things that makes this game a bit more painful to endure. Other then the lag the graphics are top-notch and definitely up there as far as Sonic games go.

Look Everyone Sonic has a Dog, ... Not!

Sound: The music in this game isn't too bad, but it could have been made better with some music from the cartoons. The cartoons had a more rock feel to sonic as he was speeding down the highway, and from what ive seen that feels more like the sonic i know compared to the low tone beats in this game. There was essentially no real voice acting in this game other then the cutscenes, the b-role NPC's just grunted with an sound i heard 100 times through out the game. I would have preferred no sound to a old man going "hohoho".

Story: The princess gets kidnapped, sonic goes and tries to save her and runs into Dr. Eggman along the way. 'nough said. Luckily there are two more story lines to play through when you get to them; one is silver, the other is shadow.

It's Shamo... Trying to Kill Sonic!

Gameplay: You are Sonic, a hedgehog and your running all over the place grabbing coins, and completing missions to get gold rings. When you get gold rings you can buy items to further sonic's ability. Some of the modes less you snowboard(don't ask!), control balloons, or just do what sonic does best, run through levels super fast. It's actually fun if you don't run into any major glitches.

If only Wind Bending was this easy.. Sonic is the new airbender!

At the end this game wasn't too bad to play through, and as a sonic fan it quenched my thirst for 1 week. At times i had to fling my controller at the floor due to it's massive glitch base. But when ever it was glitch free for more then 1 hour i had a lot of fun playing it.

If this game was glitch/lag free i would have gave it a 7/10.

But because it was Glitched up i will have to give it a 5.5/10. Sorry Sonic, I've seen better.

Thanks for reading through my review of Sonic The Hedge Hog for the PS3. I hope you enjoyed reading it. I will go through it and edit it later when i get more time

Re: Sonic the HedgeHog Review (PS3 Version)

I Agree about the glitches, they drag the overall gameplay
down 2 or even 3 notche's. As for the loading times, that
also kills of an extra 2. The game play is cool but i think Sega
got it all wrong, i also think Shadow should be as fast as Sonic
(Seeing as he was his mystical rival, not a thug thirsty gangsta wannabe)

The problem with the gameplay with me was how slow
could sonic get? It seems the controls where stiff and i found
it hard to budge etc.

Anyway i agree and at-least i know its not just me thinking
these things as well.

Great review!
[Just some small tips]: Should add a little bit more though
(the review kept me interested, but functionality was also on my to read list lol).

Re: Sonic the HedgeHog Review (PS3 Version)

Thanks for the review of this Vahid.

Played the demo of this on the 360 - and hmm yah not impressed, BUT, it's Sonic, so must get it lol

Dunno whether to get PS3 or 360 version (PS3 version tis £10 more most places, and as far as I'm aware it is the exact same game )

Im sure i can put up with a few glitches/lags, but yah, from what ive seen of it, not as good as classic Sonic style

Re: Sonic the HedgeHog Review (PS3 Version)

Good stuff...

Have to concurr - this title is disappointing.

To be honest, Sonic pretty much lost it for me once he left 2D world, and this title really didn't change my feelings on this.

I played the 360 version, but I think the PS3 version is a stright port...

I agree, Sonic on the Wii, is the better game, but, it is a different Sonic game to this - which is available on PS3 and 360.
For a Sonic game, its alright, but, if it was another character, diff game, but same gameplay, i wouldnt get this one (addicted to Sonic? maybe )

Re: Sonic the HedgeHog Review (PS3 Version)

Wow, I didn't know there was A Sonic game for PS3!

There is barely any games for PS3 out now in Australia. When I got my PS3 today at JB Hi-Fi, there was only like 13 games! And when I went to Harvey Norman to get a wireless controller, there was only 10! What is up wit dat!

Your best bet is to stick with Resistance, Motorstom, and Calling all cars Best games of all times.
