Crisis Core PSP Slim Review & Crisis Core Review [Minor Spoilers]

Crisis Core JPN - Minor Spoilers

A beautiful cover made by Square Enix.

Story 10/10
You are shown the story of Zack's life when he was a Class 2nd Soldier of the army known as Shinra. A young soldier who wishes to be a hero, you take control of Zack ... through his adventures across many different towns and situations. First Class soldier Genesis, has gone missing in action, you are commanded to go find the whole truth to his dissapearance. You really feel involved in the story, and once you complete the story you are thinking about FF7 all the time. 10/10

Graphics 8/10

Brave boy standing on a speeding train.

Crisis Core is a game with outstanding graphics , regardless of the PSPs specs, Square-Enix has managed to pull out fantabulous CG Scenes. Crystal clear, the quality as good as Advent Children modeling.

>.< Oh no Zack don't die on me!

The nice detailed environment, intricate details on monsters. Square-Enix has definitely gave 100% to Crisis Core, and possible even pushed the PSP to its limit. But with these improved graphics comes with a downside the loading. During some ingame events, you may see jagged lines. This is where Crisis Core falls, these jagged lines are everywhere! It gets annoying and its ugly ..... 8/10

Audio / Sound 9/10

Crystal Clear sounds (Translation = If you want to be a hero you have to hold on to your dreams and also---your pride)
Crystal clear sounds .... the Voice Overs fit together wonderfully. It never sounds as if the voice overs are out of place. The music is a brought back to life Final Fantasy 7 music, enhanced. Its never sounded better, you'll be loving it. Some battle music I will admit get annoying if you start going into to battle many times. The sound efx of Zack getting hurt, or attacking is realistic, nothing sounds too much out of place.
Crystal clear, sword clashing with each other, speech intact. Some of the rock music that is in battle sounds off sometimes. 9/10

Controls 10/10
Simple, I'd say. Not much to get a fit over here, no advanced controls all simple.

Out of Battle

Triangle = Menu
Square = Nothing
Cross = Cancel
Circle = Confirm/Talk
D-Pad = Movement
Analog = Movement
L-Trigger = Change Camera
R-Trigger = Change Camera

In Battle

Triangle = Block
Square = Dodge
Cross = Cancel
Circle = Confirm/Use whatever item your cursor is on
D-Pad = Movement
Analog = Movement
L-Trigger = Change commands
R-Trigger = Change commands

Once again simple controls. Nothing to complicated 10/10.

Gameplay 10/10

There are a few things that need to be explained. But once you get a hang of it you'll never forget it. Its to memorable to forget it. Biggest thing you need to know is DMW.
Stands for Digital Mind Wave.

Its basically Zack's limit break roulette and memory, he can perform limit breaks of certain people if he gets them on the slots. First, the DMW rolls all of them. The first pops up on the left, then the next on the far right. If you get 2 the same you enter a mode called Modulation Mode, and if you get the same guy/girl again you perform his/her limit break. Before you get your middle one, sometimes you may get flashbacks or a screen with several memories pop up. The more the better, as it increases the chance of getting the person you need.

The flashbacks at some times may add to the story. Or something just for fun. There are several effects you can get by the DMW but I'll let that up to your to figure out. The rest is easy to learn, down below is your command menu. Pushing the L or R trigger will move it around, to Attack, Materia types or your bag.

Other things you must learn if you plan on doing missions is dodging n blocking. At first they might seem useless but trust me they are the most helpful commands ever.

10/10 It won't take you long to get the hang of it.

Difficulty 10/10
Difficult or not its depends on you. The story on its own is well I'd consider extremely easy ... if not very easy. Its not hard at all, but if you spend your time doing missions ... you may get frustrated. Missions can go from Very Easy, to Very Hard. And when they say very hard, they mean it. Fighting monsters that are way stronger then you, monsters that one hit ko, monsters that instant kill you it definitely does get very annoying. Difficulty I'd rate 10/10, story is easy, missions are hard. Even when you reach near the end of the missions with over-powered weapons you'll find some enemies are still surprisingly overpowered.

Replay Value
Not much to unlock but there are missions and a secret ending. You'll be playing this game over and over again to unlock the super powerful accessories and customizing your Materia. You'll be stuck on this game if you wanna finish the missions.
The story will take around 5-15 hours depending on how you play. But combined with the Missions expect a hefty 40-100 hours of gameplay. Or more depending on how much you wanna play around with the materia and mixing.

Overall
Once you have finished the game, you will be feeling as if you want to play FF7 and watch FFAC again so that everything fits together perfectly after understanding the importance of Zack's story and association with Cloud. You'll notice just how cool Zack was, heck he might even become your favourite FF character.

Final Score

Story 10/10
- Very in-depth and involving.
Graphics 8/10 - Crisis Core's jaggy lines let it down.
Audio 9/10 - Music can become repetitive. Not enough variety I'd say.
Controls 10/10 - Simple and easy to get the hang of.
Gameplay 10/10 - Nice intresting things that keep the gameplay fresh.
Difficulty 10/10 - Hard overpowered enemies. Story is easy though.
Final score to me would be a good 8.5/10

Now that I've reviewed the game, I'll talk to you breifly about the Bundle itself.

PSP Unit

Beautifully crafted artwork on the back, of Cloud ,Zack and Sephiroth. The PSP itself, is a nice silver finish, with a grainy look. Similar to the Sony PSP Ice Silver PSP. The face-plate is hard to scratch. The artwork doesn't seem to scratch off at all.

The UMD Drive, feels abit clunky and feels as if it could break if you pull to hard. Don't worry though you'll get use to it. Battery cover is far mor easier to get off the the old psp.

As always you'll need a screen protector if you want to protect the screen. The PSP has a nice glossy finish to the faceplate. Upon buying one, on the back of the UMD Drive is a nice number, that tells you which number Crisis Core PSP you have in the entire world.

A number out 77,777 PSP Units. Hopefully you get the 77,777th one. The PSP is basically a average slim but with the artwork on the back.

A nice black box, with a golden touch to it.

Once again a nice limited edition PSP Crisis Core Game Cover.

Buster Blade

Nice metal limited edition blade. The tip of the blade is fairly sharp , meaning if you put it on the PSP it may scratch the screen or the PSP unit. So its best to keep off, the blade is heavy. I don't know how much I guess its half of the PSP slim weight.

Nice engravings of the words Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core.

I can't review the earphones since I didn't recieve one. So yeah enjoy my review.

Re: Crisis Core PSP Slim Review & Crisis Core Review [Minor Spoilers]

Very good review, especially on the PSP Slim!

I also play the game but i get frustrated at certain place and stop playing. The inability to understand Japanese make it hard for me to dvelve into the story also.

Will defintely wait for the US version to come out.

Excellent view, SlasherX. The pictures match perfectly . Honestly, I would still be playing Crisis Core, if it wasn't so big on my Memory Stick and if it wasn't in Japanese. I just couldn't get into it because of how it was for me to comprehend the language .

Heheh Trunks, there are alot of translations out there. The community is so big ... they've translated more then 3/4 of the game. But thats not including dialog or emails.

Like I said above, a whole bunch of translations and faqs made the game easy and fun to play ... so I'm not going to import the US version. I've understand everything in Crisis Core JPN so no need for me to buy it again Although I would like to hehehe.

Re: Crisis Core PSP Slim Review & Crisis Core Review [Minor Spoilers]

This is the site I used for the game translation. Basically the translation on this site translates when ever a voice over speaks in.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I use this site in general ... for some things.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I use this walkthrough that contains most of the mission information has a walkthrough till the end of the game, has translations for all materia, items etc.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Then for information I can't get from any of them i take a look here
