i'm using Total Video Converter. It maybe slow, but the results are good.

I didn't pay for it, but personally I think it's the best for converting direct from DVD's and it's fast.

ive been wandering, how do you get dvd's ont yer psp, i tried copyng the simpsons movie and when i tried it on my psp it came up with this pirating clip saying "you wouldn't smash a window" and stuff

I've just started using PSPVC, which was in my repo's, plus I've got avidemux installed, which has come highly recommended.
I'm using PSPVC at the minute, and its converting a single film in 3 hours, and only 1 film at a time, which blows, since I'm rushing now to convert films for Tuesday night, when I travel.

Oh, helps if I say i'm a Linux user.
