Video FAQ|Guide

Like Immortals FAQ, this faq/guide is still a work in progress. i still have a long way to go to make this thread worth anything, and i definatly cant do it alone. these faqs are a community effort, not one user can do it alone. also this is a good place to ask if you dont know something, because if its not already answered it will be answered and added to the faq.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - If you got one of those [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], your probably in the wrong place.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - I promise you wont get much out it, a few game saves. a little homebrew. but definatly no videos with some what good quality. (bigger sizes include 128mb,256mb,512mb,1GB,2GB)
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - There very cheap you can get them at any game store.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - (hopefully your own) other then the libraries, or your friends (you cheap ass!)
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - Good for Playing Online games and downloading videos/music straight to your psp. (i recommend getting a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] version 3 or less, custom firmware makes this $50 router into one that should cost alot more. Theres tons of firmwares to choose from i suggest looking at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [ahmans is based on an older dd-wrt build but includes xlink kai engine so you can easily play any psp game with adhoc online])

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - Allows you to run version 2.5 firmware on 1.5 and play AVC video (umd games, webbrowser, ect dont work yet) Thanks to Morningstar for the files.

|Internet Programs
------------------------------
| Some programs that will help you surf the internet and download Files.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - Internet browser by Mozilla. Uses next-gen technology to make the best browsing possible with such features as pop-up blocking, useful extensions, custom themes, passowrd manager, an easy to manage download manager, and many more great reasons that make Internet Explorer absolutely obsolete. i could easily make an entire GUIDE/FAQ on just firefox but im going to try and keep it limited in this one to get you to get it, and some very usefull extensions
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] + [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - FlashGot is an extension for Firefox that allows you to use FlashGet. Flashget is really good download manager, which has been proven to increase download speeds in some cases. BUT, be warned some people dont like you to use these type of programs on there sites since there known to suck alot bandwidth fast. so please dont use it on files hosted on pspcrazy's server. i recommend using it on Filefront and Megaupload.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] + [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - Awesome popup and banner blocker for firefox, it eliminates even flash ads if you dont want to see them. its a perfect tool for file hosting sites with annoying pop ups and banners. get both extensions for best results.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - This is a nice extension for people with little experience in IRC. so get this and come to the PSPcrazy IRC Chat room and talk to the hardcore members. also IRC is a nice place to find videos that you can download, convert to psp and upload. (also i recommend getting a new motif like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] )

|Archive Tools
------------------------------
| Tools to Compress and Decompress Files
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - A Very Common Archive utility among the members here at PSPCrazy and other download sites. If you intend to download (and hopefully upload) files here at PSPCrazy this program is a must. its free but you will get a message when the trial runs out, so i have included a link to a crack.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - An Absolutly amazing archive utility, its shocks me that there was a time i hated the .7z format. This is a FREE utility and compresses files extremely well in some cases. Also the files can be extracted with WinRAR so you dont have to worry about making people download another program. i highly recommend you try this out, although it should be noted that it is also recommended you have a good ammount of ram for ver big files or compressing might take awhile.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] + [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - This is an archive program some people preffer over WinRAR, i personally like WinRAR but its your computer so use what you like.

|Video Playback
------------------------------
| Filters/Codecs to Play Videos on your PC.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - One of the best computer applications i have come across this year. installing this correctly will allow Windows Media Player to play almost every file type (including .MP4 and .AVC, excluding .MOV and .RM but you can check out quicktime/realplayer alternative if you want to play those in WMP).
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - QuickTime and RealPlayer Alternative are codecs that allow you to play .MOV and .RM type formats in Windows Media player. i personally hate both formats, and hate the players even more so i use these, but what ever you do dont install K-LITE!!
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - another good movie player is VLC media player..you should add that...it plays AVC and almost anything....i dont think theres anything that i found it wont play - brfitzp (ive tested this thing out and its pretty nice, i like how it can pick up my tv tuner and record shows)

|Video Conversion Tools
------------------------------
| Programs for converting video formats
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] + [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - A Program that can Convert those odd formats into something that you can convert to .MP4 or .AVC
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - This is another one of my favorite programs, the main purpose of this program is to rip DVDs into .VOBs so programs like PSP Video 9 can convert them to .MP4 or .AVC (check AnyDVD)
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] + [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - This seems to be the program thats replacing DVD Decryter.. man i love that program. havent used anyDVD much but i hear is pretty damn tight.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - This is my personal favorite video conversion program for PSP. it has many great options, and although i havent been able to confirm this yet i beleive with CCCP installed you can convert any format you can play in WMP to .MP4 (some files i have converted are .OGM and .MKV)
• PSP Movie Creater -
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - One of the First and probably still the most popular Video Conversion program for PSP. it does have some very good options but if you are a novice at video conversion the program can be a bit confusing to get your videos "just right". This program can convert to either .MP4 or .AVC.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - The only program i have found so far that can very simply convert DVD's (without copyright protection) from the drive right to .MP4
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - 3GP is a free program to convert videos to psp with. you can check out [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] on how to get DVDs to PSP with it. (i beleive this also works with macs not 100% sure)
• PSP Media Manager -
• Movkit PSP Video Converter -
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] -
• Intervideo IVideoToGo -
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] -
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - heres a program that some people use, but i personally think its pretty sketchy since [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] is very similar to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] selling the same thing with another name...eh?
• Xillisoft 3GP Converter - Read imTOO PSP Video Converter

|Free File Hosting
------------------------------
| Websites that will host files for free so others can download them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - FileFront is one of the current most popular file hosting service right now. Filefront has great Uploading and Downloading speeds making it a good choice. There is always a bad side to good things and here you have to register for an account to upload, and being caught can get all your uploads taken down.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - FileFactory, being very similar to Filefront in name and options. the big difference is that here you dont have to register an account to upload files and downloads speeds are decent as well.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] -
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] -
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - Considered a safe place to upload by many members because files rarly get taken down for "piracy". the problem with this site is slow download speeds and that if no one downloads the file within 30 days it will be taken down.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - One of the older sites people used to share there psp files. 50MB upload limit so its fine for smaller files.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - this place has ok upload and download speeds, but the max file size is 60MB
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - Asuka02 informed me about this site, ive never used it and never downloaded from it so i cant say much about it, but i know theres a 100MB size limit on files.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - 500 MB maximum, unlimited downloads - brfitzp

:
: Frequently Asked Questions
:................................................|
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\|

Q. The file i downloaded has a weird extension (e.g. .INI, .BIN, ect)
A. First you should have [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] installed on your PC then follow these steps
1. open any folder (such as my documents or where the file is located)
2. go to tools
3. go to folder options
4. click the "view" tab
5. uncheck the box that says "hide extensions for known file types"
6. you should now be able to view the extension of the file
8. right click the file
7. click rename
8. rename the filename.ini to filename.rar (or the extension specified in the original thread)
9. right click the file again and select "extract here"

Q. I connected my psp to my PC but windows isnt recognizing it what do i do?
A.
1. On the psp go to the XML dashboard (if your in a game press the home button and select yes)
2. Go to Settings
3. Select "USB mode"
4. Now windows should recognize the psp as a removeable drive and you can transfer stuff to and from it. (you can find the drive under "my computer")

Q. I Downloaded a video but the lip sync is really bad how do i fix this?
A. The most common problem for this is that you have a 2.0 PSP playing a .MP4 video file encoded at 15FPS (frames Per Second). Sony some how managed to screw up the 2.0 psp firmware for playing .mp4 videos. There are 3 Solutions to this, you can
1. Deal with it, or dont watch it.
2. Downgrade your PSP to 1.5 (recommended option)
3. Upgrade to 2.5 (highly NOT recommended)
The choice is up to you, but upgrading means no more homebrew.

Q.What is a THM file?
A. A THM file is a 160x120pixel jpg image that is displayed for a video on your psp. For this to work the image's .jpg extension must be renamed to ".thm" and the name should correspond with the videos (e.g. M4V00001.mp4 & M4V00001.THM) and placed in the "100MNV01" Folder

Q.I cant seem to get the movie with the THM file to work. what am i doing wrong?
A. The THM and the Video file must both have the same name except for the extension and they must be placed in the same folder (e.g. M4V00001.mp4 & M4V00001.THM)

Q.If i have firmware version 2.0 do i need to downgrade to 1.5 if i want to watch the music videos or episodes on my psp?
A. No, you do not need to downgrade to 1.5 if you want to watch any type of .MP4 videos on your psp, but if the video was convert at 15FPS (Frames Per Second) then the 2.0 firmware might cause the video to have lip sync problems (e.g. lips or movement dont go with the audio)

Q.When i connect my psp to my pc and look at the sub folders,i cant find the folder for the videos?
A. This is because when you format the memory stick it sometimes doesnt create one, so you have to make it yourself.
1. Connect the psp with the memory stick in it to the computer and set the psp to "USB mode" under settings
2. On your pc open "My Computer"
3. Open the PSP drive
4. This is whats called the "Root" and where you need to make a new folder called "MP_ROOT"
5. Inside the "MP_ROOT" folder make 2 more and name them "100MNV01" and "100ANV01"
6.
If your video name looks like "M4V10166.MP4" then place it in the "100ANV01" folder.
(B) If your video name looks like "MAQ10166.MP4" then place it in the "100ANV01" folder.

Q.Can you plug the memory stick straight into your computer? If not, do I need a cable to go from the PSP to the computer and is that cable typically included?
A. Yes, if you have a SD pro duo slot on your PC/Printer/usb adapter you can use it instead of a psp with the cable, and no the cable is typically not included (exceptions are the "giga pack")

Q. Can i play AVC Videos on 1.5? If so, how?
A.

Q. What is PMP?
A.

I have a question.

I downloaded a torrent that was an .OGM
and when i play it in VLC, it is japanese, so i have to go to the second language for English. So here is the actual question. Is there a PSP vid converter that will allow me to choose audio tracks?

well with CCCP what it does it it will open up some programs and put them in the system tray (the thing by your click) you can right click one of them and it will give you the options of audio tracks and stuff. and i find it works great with pspvideo express.

Btw brfitzp nice catch on me naming that program wrong lol. i actually really didnt want to post this thing up so soon, i could have easily worked on it in notepad for another week and beefed it up more and fixed it. so i kinda expected errors like that, thanks
