Mac MP4 Video Encoders Converters for the PSP!

Ok here is a list of encoders for the Mac i found!

This App is a Mac os x only Smile here is the link
http://<br /> <a href="http://hetim...shiiva.php</a>

Heres another called ffmpegX.

ffmpegX is a really good app for converting video. It can do mpeg4, doesn't have any special PSP features or anything, but mpeg4 is mpeg4

http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ heres it's link

heres a quote i got from aguy on another forum called ichan

"AltShiiva: I was never quite able to get a movie clip to work with this software. I don't know what the problem is, I input all the correct settings from other people on this board but to no avail, I'll keep trying as new versions come out. http://hetima.com/psp/altshiiva.php

iPSP: I paid for it and it has treated me very very well, but the quality is not the best, I don't know why, even when I set everything to maximum, the quality is not that much better. This is all subjective of course, but i didn't like the fact that best quality caused 'MORE' motion blurring than the normal quality. The software also creates .THM files for the movies for you automatically. (these are the thumbnails for the movies). I like that there is an option for Animation or Live-Action, these do make a difference.
The iTunes and iPhoto synchronization is great if you are into that sort of thing.

ffmpegX: This is the best because it can be as easy or as complex as you want it to be. You just select your movie, select the PSP preset and also select where you want to output to, and click encode, that's it! I have only encoded a few short clips with it, the encoding time is very quick and there is also a progress bar! (VERY Handy!). While this is not free (shareware) there are no limitations that i know of. http://homepage.mac.com/major4/index.html

These are the options i know of so far and they have been outlined in this thread already, i just thought it would be nice to have them all in one place. Can't wait til my 1GB MSDP gets here. The PSP really is a really useful Personal Video Player, much better and more convenient than i thought it would be. "

This sums it up for the macs for now!

Converting VOB files with altShiiva

As previously noted, I was having problems converting DVD .VOB files. When these were played back on the PSP, the audio did not sync with the video.

Well, I have been playing around with altShiiva and found a way to solve this. First, convert the VOB file to an MP4 as usual. This will set the audio as 22.050 kHz, dispite having selected 24.000 kHz. However if you run the MP4 file through altShiiva again, setting the audio to 24.000 kHz, this will leave you with an MP4 file which will run proberly on the PSP.

It's not ideal, having to run the convert process twice (although it's worth saying the second process takes a lot less time). I'll be looking out for a less time consuming way, and welcome everyones input.

Of course we shouldn't have any of these problems when OSX 10.4 Tiger comes along with Quicktime 7's h.264 codec!
Seems a little long winded having to do it twice, but like the man says, with great updates comes great compatability

peace

options recap

OK, so I've tried the various offerings for video re-encoding for OS X and this is what I've found:

iPSP - slick looking but a bit buggy. No control over video options.
PSPWare - Still no control over video options. Also, attempts to delete content already on card- making it impossible to manage more than one memory stick
ffmpegx - Great program - drag and drop interface, select PSP and everything works great.
altShiiva - I'm still trying to get this to work too. I'll try the multiple pass thing, but that seems kind of lame. It's also taking a really long time and the files end up more than twice as big as the ffmpegx files even though I'm using all the same settings.

So, it looks like I'm going to keep using ffmpegx. The only problem I have with it is that I can't get it to encode to an aspect ratio other than exactly 320:240. This is fine for viewing videos on the PSP, because you can keep changing the display until it stretches right. Unfortunately, there's no "stretch" option in Quicktime or any other mac video viewer, so if I want to keep a video and view it on either my PSP or my Mac I have to have two separate files right now. Can anyone suggest a workaround for this?
