I want to clarify some things on Rain's Simple MMS Maker. It is stable however I have not implemented message processing during the DC install yet. On a long decrypt/extract such as DCv7 its very easy to notice that it does not update the progress bar and the form appears frozen however windows shouldnt comment as it knows the app is running. If you wait the exact same amount of time that DJB's app takes you will see it worked just fine it becomes responsive right after DCv7 is copied and you will see it copy the eboots. This will be "fixed".

I have been programming for 10 years and if i wanted the app to be more like DJB's I would have, I elected a smaller, no install, not .net 1 DC installer for noobs. Me and him are in regular talks and you notice while my app is simpler it does have REAL psp detection (slims will be identified properly in the next version i already fixed it, i did not have a psp when i wrote the app as it was stolen.) My app also has a TM edit config which is coming to DJB's next version but talking to him he says it may not at first automatically create lines for selected firmware like myne was designed to however it should eventually do that as well.

The next version will fix slim detection and make the Pandora installs look responsive as some users apparently need, I knew this was going to happen but my limited time to write the first version I knew it wasnt an actual problem. IT IS IN THE HELP FILE..... i think? lol I chose a different route for my program and DJB's is gonna be right for non first timers as myne should be more right for people hacking the first time or two.
Hi There, I think it would be more appropiate to write this to moderators, I however, I have tried the app, and found it it had little to offer then Pandora's Deluxe, but that is my opinion only, I posted it on this group for others to use as a help gesture, they had a few problems with it, so I will post this messsage on the Boards, I think you are doing a great job, I have learnt basic Java 1.2 at PG level in University, and I understand how difficult it is to write an app, especially of this nature. Please dont be offended, keep up the good work, it is appreciated.....and god luck ok?

Cheers...

PSP Pandora Deluxe is overly complicated for a single MMS install, but it is alot better than UPT AUto Installer in the fact that it gives you choices and it also includes usefull apps. As UPT gives nothing but outdated [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

I am working with DJB to integrate [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Detection in his app but as I program in Pascal its taking some work to translate the code into VB.net. I am in no way trying to compete with him.

After this next version is out id actually rather move onto something else, if you have suggestions for either let me know. DJB himself can be found on psp-hq or psp-hacks and he is regularly on MSN.

Hiya,

I understand what your trying to do, I just want to say these [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] crazy forums are the most friendliest forums you will find, people help each other, especially newbies without being flamed to high heaven (I notice that on consolespot.net). Again good luck with your app, when your done please upload it to forums for us to use, we will give you our feedbacxk, cheers mate.

Re: I got tis nessage about Rains MMS, you shopuold read it....

He did PM me on this but sadly there is a new installer coming out nearly every day and updates to them nearly every other day. It's gets hard to check them all and I'm certain there are many good ones out there. I actually have no critique on this app yet.
I have a couple of guidelines that I look for.

1. Usable on XP and Vista. More and more people are starting to run Vista and don't have access to a XP machine so Vista compatibility is a must.

2. Must not need a custom firmware PSP to make the mem stick. This reason is obvious since nearly all newcomers to the scene have only one and it official thus the reason why they need the memory stick and the people that already have at one on custom firmware already know what to do. I also prefer that it is usable on a card reader without the use of the PSP at all. This is for people that have a bricked PSP and can not access their memory stick. There are so many card readers out there that it makes it difficult to know if the one they have will even support the size of sitck that they have. I have an old one that won't go above 512mb and another that only goes to 2gb.

3. Ease of installation of the preparation program. This may seem pointless as there is not much in the way of installing these but most of them require the downloading of official firmwares, renaming them and putting them in certain folders or at least knowing where these folders are. Most noobs are not only new to the PSP but are not that computer literate a simple thing as renaming a file becomes a chore. Most people have not changed any settings in Windows Explorer and by default the file extensions are hidden so when they are told to rename EBOOT.PBP to 401.PBP they end up with 4.01.PBP.PBP and that will not work. So a program that they just unrar to desktop and then run from a folder is perfect. I know that nearly all developers of these make the official firmware seperate for 2 reasons one is to insure no conflicts with Sony and the other is to keep the size of the download file as small as possible.

4. Ease of actually making the magic memory stick. Now days that is pretty straight forward. In the beginning you had to do a step then remove the memory stick disable the USB then reverse the process and do this a few times. Noobs are impatient and cannot see the reasoning behind this and just skip all of this resulting in failure and frustration. Frustration adds to futher impatience and not following directions.

Between IM's, e-mail, & PM's I deal on average about 6 PSP problems a day. Simplicity is the key. Although we're not noobs and understand how to do all this we must not loose sight that the majority of the people that need help only need to get past that first hurdle and that is to get from official firmware to custom firmware.

As seasoned PSP users we grow tire of the same old magic memory stick makers and want all of these added extras and tools but these, for the first time users, are sensory overload and they feel that they need to know all about that stuff before they even get the PSP on custom firmware.

For these reasons I usually recommend the DV4-TM that is attached to one of my posts. I know that it is old as it only installs 3.80m33-5 but it is a single download, unrar the folder to the desktop, attach the PSP, open the folder, and run the program. The official firmware is already there and renamed and in the right spot. It's not a pretty program, it's down and dirty but gets the job done with minimal complications. The upgrade to a higher cfw is easy and I find that most people once that cfw is on their PSP they relax and rest is a lot easier.

Now if I can just get people to backup their NAND and flash folders before they brick it with some theme life will get easier.

Re: I got tis nessage about Rains MMS, you shopuold read it....

Thanks gandalf well they fixed me so i can speak.

The program should be simple to use but some people might be confused by the freezing up in 1.0 the program was written in 5 days as i didnt think id have anymore time. If you dont click on the app till it says finished it shouldnt appear frozen it should appear normal same with DJB's. People have a bad habit of clicking on things lol.

The whole program was designed to be easier then other apps but slightly more powerful than grader.

Next version will have the following improvements:

PSP Detection is fixed for slims (though it worked anyways)

Basic and Advanced Modes, Basic will be grader basic and Advanced will be a cross between what the progam is now and im taking a shot at an elf multi setup (sorry to my buddy DJB but im crossing into your territory now).

The program will remain the same requirements wise, No Install, No .NET, Only 1 file (plus an eboot).

My program does not require you to rename the eboot as it creates a new file during the copy process already named what it needs to be. This will be further utilized. Hopefully 100% of all possible excpetions will be handled although I have tried them all on my new PSP and had no exceptions. There will be some more information and notifications but will be kept to only what is necesarry.

There will be an installation summary at the end telling you what buttons you set for what and anything you need to know.

Im once again gonna attempt in program html based help/tut files but last time i couldnt get it to work before release time.
