| GamingCrazy Fanatic ![]() | Detailed Instructions to Downgrade 2.71 Hi All, I just successfully Downgraded my 2.71 PSP to 1.50 and wanted to pass on some knowledge and help anyone else looking to downgrade. IMPORTANT: THIS DOWNGRADE WILL NOT WORK WITH TA-082 MOTHERBOARDS!! If you have this motherboard do NOT attempt to downgrade!! YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PSP!! Check and then DOUBLE CHECK to make sure you do not have the TA-082 motherboard before proceeding! Preparation time: 10 Minutes Downgrading time: 4 Minutes Total Time for Whole Processes: 14 Minutes Step 1: Prepare the PSP 1. CHARGE YOUR PSP FULLY AND HAVE IT CONNECTED TO THE POWER CORD WITH POWER RUNNING TO IT!! 2. I also HIGHLY suggest you restore the factory Default Settings to aid in installation of the 1.50 firmware and to try to avoid bricking issues. Go into the System Settings > Restore Default Settings. Follow the on-screen instructions. Step 2: Prepare the Memory Stick 1a. If you have a 32 MB Memory Stick, I would suggest you use it instead of a larger Memory Stick. Go dig up your old 32 MB Memory Stick!! 1b. If you only have one Memory Stick in your possession, regardless of the size, connect your PSP to your desktop, drag and drop your files to a safe folder on your desktop to make a backup. 2. REFORMAT THE MEMORY STICK! This erases EVERYTHING on it, hence the reason why I instructed you to make a backup on your desktop above. 3. Once reformatted, proceed. Step 3: Preparing Downgrader Files 1a. Download the Downgrader files found here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] 1b. Everything you need is contained in the link I listed above^^. Including the 1.5 Downdater filed. 2. Unzip Downgrader files to Desktop using WinRar or any other RAR-type unzipping utility. 3. Double click to open the unzipped Downgrader Folder. 4. Move or Delete the "README" and the "LEEME" files to prevent confusion on what exactly is supposed to be transfered and to avoid any bricking. Don't even waste your time reading those files. It's ucredibly confusing and INCORRECT. Follow this guide exactly and you'll be fine. Step 4: Moving Downgrader Files to Memory Stick 1. Connect your PSP to your computer. 2. Open the "drive" that your PSP is assigned to. Do not go any deeper into any other folders! You should be able to see the following: MP_ROOT folder PSP folder MEMSTICK.IND file 3. Now, copy and paste the entire contents of the modified Downgrader Folder onto the PSP. You should be moving the following folders: DOWNDATER folder PSP folder d.bin file Nothing else! No README or LEEME files. NOTE: When moving the files, if asked to overwrite any files, click "YES" to overwrite the files. DO NOT PANIC. Nothing will be erased or modified! Step 5: Downgrading! Here we go! IMPORTANT: THIS DOWNGRADE WILL LIKELY REQUIRE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS! DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED! THERE IS ABOUT A 1/10 CHANCE, SO THAT MEANS YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO TRY 10 (or more) TIMES TO BE SUCCESSFUL. (For me it took 11 trys, lol). 1. AGAIN, MAKE SURE YOUR PSP HAS A FULL BATTERY AND IS CONNECTED TO THE POWER CORD! 2. Make sure you disconnect it from your computer if you haven't already. 3. Along the Menu Bar on the PSP screen (the XMB bar) go to "Photos". 4. The screen will freeze for a second when you open Photos normally. If it does not, click on the d.bin file/picture. 5. A bright red screen will display and you will notice the Memory Stick light blinking. EXCELLENT! It's trying to downgrade! 6. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PSP OR TURN IT OFF AT THIS POINT! YOU WILL BRICK IT!! Let it run it's course! NOTE 1: If the Downgrader was NOT successfully initiated the screen will NOT be red, so if you don't see a red screen you are free to restart your PSP and try again. NOTE 2: If your PSP does not respond to the Power Slider being held in the up position to restart it, simple TAKE OUT THE BATTERY and then put the battery back in again. Start the Downgrader process from "Step 5: Downgrading. Here we go!" again. 7. While downgrading the screen will stay red for a few minutes then turn itself off. BUT DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PSP! LET IT SIT WHERE IT IS CONNECTED TO THE POWER FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS. 8. After at least 30 seconds elapse you are free to turn back on your PSP by holding the Power Slider up. 9. If done correctly, the Sony PSP splash screen will come on and then a weird "blue error screen" in like 8 languages will display. DO NOT PANIC! Just press the "O" button, the PSP will reboot itself and will ask you to set the date/time/time zone/etc. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your PSP. 10. Now go into the "System Settings" menu and check to see what version you have! It should now proudly display 1.50! Congratulations! You've just become part of the Homebrew community! Enjoy! IMPORTANT: Sometimes after downgrading was successful your PSP might not read UMD discs. If this happens, DO NOT PANIC! Just take the battery out of your PSP then put it back in again or simply restart your PSP. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'd like to give a "thank you" to "Will|4042" over at psp-hacks for providing the basis of this tutorial. I would also like to thank the dedicated homebrew devs that made this downgrader possible! GREAT WORK GUYS! ![]() Last edited by FallN; 09-24-2006 at 01:39 AM.. |

![]() For the person that asked: YES, there is a chance that it may brick your PSP but if you make sure you have the right version of PSP and follow my directions EXACTLY, the chances of it bricking your PSP are less likely. | |
