[GUIDE] Making a Pandora Battery WITHOUT phat psp

well i've been seeing a lot of misleading posts saying if you do not have a Homebrew capable psp you can not make a Pandora Battery. well here is my guide, i hope it helps someone. NOTE this guide does not show making the magic memory stick. refer to one of the pandora batter stickies for that.

OVERVIEW

This works because the pin that we just lifted was actually the ground pin of the EEPROM. Removing this pin effectively shuts off the EEPROM. When the microcontroller inside the battery tries to read the EEPROM, it will think the EEPROM contains all 1s (in binary). This is because of the pull-up resistors on the data lines. So the microcontroller returns a serial number of 0xFFFFFFFF to the PSP, which then goes into service mode.

STEP ONE
gather materials
-Regular psp battery (not slim)
-needle, safety pin, guitar pick, any other small object to pry open the battery case
-soldering iron (optional)
-solder (again optional)
-electric tape

STEP TWO

Open up the battery case by prying it with the small object as seen in the material list.

STEP THREE
Next, we need to locate a certain chip. The chip has the model number S93C56 printed on it. We are going to need to desolder pin 5 and lift it off of the board.

Newer batteries have a much smaller board with a different layout. The same chip needs to have the pin lifted, but the chip is in a different position. Once you've located chip S93C56, the rest of the instructions are basically the same. This has been confirmed with the 2200 mAH Official Sony battery.

STEP FOUR

if you are not confident in your soldering skills then desolder the cell pack from the battery first. if you make contact between pins 5 and 6 you will short out you pcb. only apply heat for a few seconds. heat + Li ion battery=BOOM. this is not recamended as you first soldering expierience.

in this picture you can see the pins. i suggest using a very fine sharp knipe to pry the pin up and then use the solder to quickly melt it.

STEP FIVE
now use your electric tape and reseal the battery casing and use this as a normal pandora battery.

sounds too risky for me. lol, I'd need to design a like a test dummy first. =P A battery made entirely of plastic or something. haha.

i should probally add in make sure its fully uncharged before soldering. you can also do it with a very very sharp hobby knife too. but it takes more force and patience.

Sorry for the semi-stupid question but: am all I doing is removing pin 5 from the board? Not reconnecting it to anything correct?

yes disconnect it from the board. just bend it up and when your done bend it back down and solder to use as a regular battery again.

Re: [GUIDE] Making a Pandora Battery WITHOUT phat psp

Hey guys, none of the chips are labeled s93c56 on an official sony 1800MAH battery. Any suggestions? I'll snapshot a photo of the battery later on today.
