Re: [Guide] How to manually install custom firmware v4.01m33-2

The distinction between the custom firmware and official firmware update is pretty easy to judge which one you're getting.

For custom firmware update, when you go to "Network Update" and download it, it is a real quick download. If you are changing version #'s(3.90m33-3 to 4.01m33-2) when you go to install it will have to download the official 4.01 firmware (a second download) and this will take some time. So you will have 2 downloads, the first real fast, the second will take a while. If you are doing a version update(4.01m33 to 4.01m33-2) you will have 1 real fast download then the install.

If it's the official firmware update, when you go to "Network Update" you will have 1 real long download and that's it, then it will ask you to install and there will be no more downloads.

Re: [Guide] How to manually install custom firmware v4.01m33-2

Hi all, just a quick one. Tried to update a PSP for a friend to 4.01m33-2 so he can play his ISO's but he already has version 4.01. We are having trouble doing this following the guide as we get a message with error numbers when we click the update from the memory stick. Is it possible to do this starting from 4.01 coz i read that we may need a pandoras battery.

Many thanks guys.

to install a custom firmware on the psp, you must use a pandora's battery on any psp on official firmware v3.51 and above. there is no other way to install a custom firmware. you can not simply update to a custom firmware by trying to use the custom firmware update files. you will end up with error that you had.

if you feel up to it, you could try and make one. have a look in the tutorial section for some guides. but if i was you, i would buy one from the likes of ebay or amazon. or if you know someone that alrady has one, ask if they can install the custom firmware for you.

Thanks for such a fast response. OK i will have a look on ebay. At least that solves our error message out then. Thanks for the info.

Re: [Guide] How to manually install custom firmware v4.01m33-2

I've successfully installed custom firmware v4.01m33-2 on my psp, but cannot get any iso's to work. Read, read, and did more reading, nothing worked, then formatted my memory stick, is there a way to go back to 150 then upgrade again. Sorry but I'm quite a noob and not sure which folders etc.. have to be on the stick after the format. Any help appreciated.

ISO/CSO's go into (psp drive letter):\ISO

While on the xmb press SELECT, the VSH menu will come up. Scroll down to UMD ISO Mode and change the setting(press the left or right D pad button) to Sony NP9660 or M33 Driver and the games should play.
