Well Bladerunner627 and renatoc8, better known as Team Legion, of PSP Hacks are working on a PSP IM service. Here is a copy of the thread.

Hi, I am Blade representing Team Legion, which currently consists of Renato, and I.

We are developing the first REAL Standalone Instant Messenger for the PSP. No need for the browser.

It's in VERY early alpha stages.

Added sound, added more flexibility to text handler.

TODO:
Continue adding flexibility to text handler, arrange all the lines into a table for easy parsing, and changing of certain lines.

Current Status:
Working on text scrolling, and misc client side netcode.

Anyway, if you check out the video you can see that this is really working and they know what they are doing. Just wanted to give a heads up to everyone that a PSP IM may be out in the near future

Hmm, BladeRunner said that his will also have AIM built in for later versions. If PSPOnline will as well, then yes it does look better. But if not, then i think im sticking with PSP IM

ive never heard of PSPONLINE, what does it claim to be able to do, and where can i read more about it?

I applaud the effort but why would I want to IM on the PSP?! No key boards and not even a pad for entry...

Actually Logic 3 is making a keyboard for the PSP.

Should be out 02/24/06.
Some people complain about the buttons looking small and close together, but personally i think its gonna be great. Will be a lot better than typing like your on a cell phone.

And about why if there is no keyboard? Why use the internet on the PSP? I mean there is no real keyboard for that either. Its just easy, fun, and portable. Not to mention you can be on the web one minute and playing Grand Theft Auto the next

Haha, yeah im sure its not all that great but i bet someone else is working on one as well. I think Sony is in the process of creating a USB keyboard for the PSP, could just be rumors though.
