It is really easy to do homebrew on your psp, but first you have to have the right firmware. What firmware do you have.
You probably have the sony's official firmware. You will need to downgrade it. You can look in the tutorial section for more info.
Homebrew is really easy on the psp. You download the homebrew online and then copy it a specific place in your psp memory card and you are set.

Are you saying that you can't afford another psp and/or battery.
You can always find a friend who has a psp.
Do you have the slim or the phat?
What firmware version is it?
If it is the fat then you might be able to downgrade using a different method. It depend on what firmware you have. If you have the new firmware then you will have to use the pandora method.
