If you haven't already heard of this wonderful app check this quote out.

Version 3.81 Release Note:

==========================
Quote:

This is only a maintenance release:

Bug Fixes:

- Fixed a critical bug in the iR Shell firmware patch which results in unable to launch UMD in XMB and also causes various incompatibility issues with other homebrew apps & seplugins. Just apply the new patch and all issues will be resolved.

- Fixed a bug in Contect Menu which wouldn't allow you to choose "Select" or "Start" menu items.

Version 3.8 Release Note:

=========================

- Added support to PSP Slim via 3.60 & 3.71 M33 CFWs. Both Phat & Slim now supports the latest M33 CFWs including 3.71M33-3.

- 2 Player PSOne Adhoc Support. Pls note this feature isn't very stable atm and games may lose synchronization druing battle, some games may work better than others. Currently, only POP ver 3.1 to 3.51 & 3.60 are supported. Ver 3.52, 3.71 & 3.72 are not supported. To use the supported POP versions with 3.71 M33 firmware, you'll need to use Popsloader by Dark_AleX. By default, iR Shell will stop the POP emu from setting your CPU to 333MHz when WiFi is active. To maintain the 333MHz clock with adhoc mode on, you'll need use iR Shell to set your PSP clock speed to 333MHz before starting adhoc play. Pls note it's still unknown whether running 333MHz will have an adverse effect on the WiFi chip. Use it at your own risk. To exit from PSOne game, press "HOME + SQUARE".

- Introduce a new Context Menu System. You can press the "START" button on a normal file under DIR view and it will bring up a context menu. You can then choose the action to perform on the selected file. The sample context menu have "MT-Viewer", "View" & "Edit". When you choose the Edit action, it will call up the corresponding editor plugin to allow you to modify the file. Refer to the User Guide for instruction on customising or adding your own context menu items.

- Added a new Multi-tasking PRX Plugin System. This allows user written PRX Plugins for iR Shell to multi-task with another game/app. The included PRX HTML/Text Viewer (MT-Viewer under Context Menu) developed by korDen allows you to view HTML & Text documents while playing games or homebrews.

- With the help from Dark_AleX, support to M33 & Sony NP9660 No UMD modes have been added. These modes can be configured under iR Configurator and they're independent with the ones in M33 Recovery Menu. To use the new modes, you'll need to apply the newest iR Shell firmware patch that comes with this release. These 2 No UMD modes are supported under all versions of 3.52 - 3.71 M33 CFWs. Pls note the new firmware patch is incompatible with previous versions of iR Shell. Do not install older version iR Shell once the firmware patch is applied.

- Added support to the latest PopsLoader for 3.71 M33-3 by Dark_AleX. Hold R-Trigger while launching PSOne game to choose POP version. If you're using 3.52 or 3.60M33, you'll need the PopsLoader for 3.52. Make sure to set "Pop Ver" to "Use Popsloader Plugin" under iR Configurator if you prefer to use popsloader instead of flash version.

- Added a random start feature for single directory mp3 playback. Goto iR Configurator and enable "MP3 Random Start...". Then, use CIRCLE to highlight a single MP3 directory and press "R-Trigger + CROSS" to start playback. The system will randomly pick a mp3 file in the directory to start playback. Please note the sequence of subsequent play order will be the same as before, it's just the first file will be picked randomly. The intention of this feature is to be used for Alarm Clock wakeup with a random mp3 file. This is NOT A SHUFFLE feature.

- Added Auto Sleep while idle to save battery power. The auto sleep time can be configured under iR Configurator. You can also choose to have auto sleep enabled only when no background application is running. Pls note auto sleep will not be activated under the following scenarios:

* When AC Adapter is connected.

* When nethostfs is active.

* When Adhoc WiFi Transfer is active.

* When usbhostfs is active.

* When usb mass storage is active.

* When Slide Show is active.

* When MP3 is playing.

- Added the ability to turn-off LEDs, including Power, Memory Stick & WiFi. This is designed to be used mainly for watching video clips on PSP, such that you won't be distracted by the constantly flashing LEDs. The orange charging LED isn't affected.

* Press R-Trigger + Vol- to switch off LEDs.

* Press R-Trigger + Vol+ to return back to normal.

- Added support for TV out with progressive component video for slim (Pb/Pr). Typical AV cable and interlaced component video are not supported. Press R-Trigger + Dpad Right to toggle between PSP LCD & TVOut. Do not use the display button to enable TVOut under iR Shell.

- Added volume bar for PSP main volume. Pressing volume keys will now show the corresponding volume under iR Shell.

Bug Fixes:

- Fixed Mute Game Audio for some of the UMD games which couldn't be completely muted previously.

- Resolved the incompatibility issue of irsautoboot.prx with 3.71M33-3 release that caused problem when switching back from iR Shell 1.5 to 3.71.

- Fixed the ability to bypass the password screen upon startup.

- Fixed a bug in Adhoc WiFi File Transfer which would skip sending of files/dirs starting with a "." when sending a directory.

- Under fw 3.71, 2 player PS1 support via keypad redirection was broken. This is now fixed.

Additional Note for Slim Support:

- iR Shell for Slim is currently running under the extra 32 MB RAM to provide enhance support. Pls note that if a homebrew application also uses the extra 32MB RAM, it will need to do proper memory allocation in order to work with iR Shell. If the specific homebrew access the extra RAM directly without allocating memory, it will not be able to coexist with iR Shell.

Special thanks to:

- Dark_AleX for his help and support in iR Shell development. Many of the M33 related features are made possible with his assistance.

- Tyranid and other developers in ps2dev.org for creating the pspsdk.

Alternative VSHMenu v3.0

Quote:
Homebrew Developer Red_Squirrel has just released the latest version of Alternative VSHMenu, which has all the functions of M33's VSHMenu but with some added functions like being able to change the background color.

A couple of bugs have been fixed for Alternative VSHMenu v3.0. The update also introduces some new functions to the program. Here's the changelog from Red_Squirrel:
  • Fixed problems with USB device setting when UMD9660 are selected.
  • Last USB Device chosen will be saved, so at PSP reboot default USB Device will be the last one chosen.
  • Changes to CPU and BUS frequency will be applied immediately on menu closing, without requiring console reboot.
  • Add UMD-VIDEO function (like M33 VSHMenu)
  • ISOs in ISO/VIDEO directory will be checked on every VSHMenu beginning, so changes (adding/removing ISO) will be realized immediately without requiring console reboot!
  • Now pressing again the "start" key VSHMenu will close itself.
Users are encouraged to browse through the readme included in the archive for installation instructions. Red_Squirrel also warns: "Do not flash this plugin erasing M33 satelite.prx! In this case Alternative VSHMenu does not work!"

Unlimited Video For PSP Update

Description
This is a video converter that will make high the highest resolution video possible for your psp (exluding UMDs which use a different codec). It features a maximum resolution of 720x480 rather than the usual max of 480x272. It also features video coding of 1500kbps and much more. The only downside is that encoding is very slow.

Quote:
Developer Florian Bertaux (lefbe) has released a new version of his nifty PSP homebrew application Unlimited Video for PSP v1.5.0, a Windows-based video encoder for formatting videos to Sony's Playstation Portable handheld. The latest release now includes support for .flv and .m2v files, as well as an improved overall encoding quality among other things.

Here's what's new since the previous version of Unlimited Video for PSP:
  • Flv format now supported.
  • Format m2v now supported.
  • Supports Dualcore.
  • Supports QuadCore.
  • Improving the quality of the encoding.
  • More information is available in the basic information and real time:
    • Service Pack.
    • Bios
  • More information is available on the video file for output.
  • Streams Video / Audio:
    • Miscellaneous.
    • Play time.
    • Resolution.
    • Frame rate.
  • Error Handling improved.
  • Shortcut is available on the Office user.
  • Information via Mediainfo 0.7.5.6 available
  • Volume Management Release-flight minimum = 300 / default 600 / Max 900
The application is downloadable as a Windows Installer executable (MSI format) and provides instructions in French.

As a final and rather touching note, the developer mentions that he dedicates this version to both his grandmother who passed away recently and to his five-year old daughter who recently celebrated her birthday.

Florian Bertaux, otherwise known as lefbe, has released a new version of Unlimited Video for PSP. Unlimited Video for PSP v1.5.1 detects additional CPUs for use with the program, so if the program wasn't working for you previously, it might work now.

Here's the list of additional CPUs which the program detects:

* Core 2 CPU
* Core 2 Duo CPU
* Genuine Intel CPU
* Dual Core
* Xeon CPU

You'll have to note that most of the instructions are in French, so you might have to use this while consulting a dictionary. That being said though, it's still a worthwhile app to have if you're looking to put more vids into your PlayStation Portable. Enjoy!

MAC Spoofer

Description:
Quote:
PSP Mac Spoofer.

This is a plugin to temporally change the mac address that your psp sends to Access Points or other wifi devices.

This plugin does NOT:

- Change the mac address stored in idstorage (that's useless, as that is just to show the inf in xmb). Therefore you will still see your old mac in system info.
- Change the read only mac address stored in the wlan chip.

This plugin DOES:

- Change the mac address that your psp will send to other wireless devices.
This is useful if you want to hide your real mac address to other people for some reason,
or if you want to bypass some mac filter protection of your neighboor

You can see your spoofed mac address when you test a connection in the XMB, or if you look into router logs.

By default, the Sony firmware "tells" the wlan chip firmware to use the internal mac address.
This plugin just changes that.

Requeriments:

- 3.71 M33. It may work in future M33 firmwares but it is not guaranteed.

Project4 BETA

Please Note that this is very new and I have not nor do I intend to test it. If you do decided to play around with it, be sure to back up your flash. If you don't, may Pandora have mercy of you if you mess up.

Description:
Quote:
Season's greeting courtesy of Auraomega. The developer has informed us that Project4's Beta build has been released, and is now ready for installation on your Sony handhelds.

For the guys who weren't around during the initial announcement, here's a recap: Project4 is homebrew application that's being developed as a complete replacement for the PSP's XMB browser. Auraomega clarifies that Project4 works from flash, and is not a shell (ex. iRShell).

Project4 Beta has been successfully tested on a PSP Slim, and should be able to handle the following firmware versions (quoting the readme):

All current custom firmwares 3.10 and above are supported currently by a custom patch, or the "Dirty Hack", when/if 3.80M33 is released I'll work on another patch if its needed, otherwise I'll just allow the installer to use the "Dirty Hack" too if its supported.

Before you get started, we strongly advice users - especially first-timers - to view the readme before installing the app. Given that Project4 writes to your PSP's flash0 and flash1, mishandling it may lead to brickings. If you do encounter any problems, be sure to inform Auraomega's development thread via the source link. We've also posted Project4's currently functional and non-functional features to help you along - be prepared in case updates are announced:

PSPTUBE 12/29/07

This is my ScreenShot

Description:
This handy app lets you stream YouTube videos straight to your psp.

Quote:
PSP Homebrew Developer SofiyaCat has finally come out with a new version of PSPTube, the app that lets you view YouTube clips on your PSP without having to download and convert the FLV files.

According to Ranmax09, the app has a new interface and some new features and now also runs the videos in sync. However, SofiyaCat does not recommend using it as the app is unstable and still quite buggy.

Here's the changelog for PSPTube 20071222 as translated by Google and AltaVista's Babelfish:

* Bug report in regard to this version is not
necessary.
* Quite unstable, so please do not use it much. If
also redistribution is possible, please refrain.
* It is not the case that all functions which it has
planned are mounted.
* Please insert in the GAME folder. There are
many many many bugs at this version.
* This is snapshot now. I do not recommend to
use this version.

Users are reminded that the program is still unstable. Please use the app with caution.
Added changes in 12-29 version:

Furikup - PSP SIP Phone v0.1

Description:
Its basically a homebrew version of Skype. It lets you use your psp as a phone.

This is a very simplified definition and is harder to get functioning compared to most homebrews. It is brand new and I also don't know how to work it yet. So I'm afraid I won't be able to answer any questions about it until I figure it out. Until then try the readme. If anyone does get it working, please PM me the free VoIP provider that you used.

Quote:
You have to hand it to Fanjita and Noobz, they just keep coming up with stuff that make us all go nuts. While the Sony PlayStation Portable mainstream crowd is waiting for more announcements from official channels about the upcoming Skype features, Fanjita and Noobz went on ahead with the development of the homebrew alternative.

In the latest post from the Noobz home page, the homebrew devs pointed out the flaws of Sony's Skype-driven system to come. They listed quite a number of disadvantages, and said they decided to make their own phone-calling software for everyone to enjoy.

The new Fanjita and Noobz software is called "Furikup." They say it's derived from "geeky" jargon, so don't worry if it sounds dirty when you first hear or read it. In any case, these are the main features:
  • It's free software - in both the beer, and speech senses.
  • You can use it anywhere in the world, subject to signing-up to a suitable local SIP-based voice-over-IP provider and being near a usable wifi access point. In many countries, you can find those for free or nearly-free - e.g. with SIPGate, in the UK, you can call to your PSP from any standard phone (landline or cellphone) for just the standard local call cost, and from PSP to another SIP phone (another PSP or a PC) for free.
  • It runs on both slim and fat PSPs.
  • It uses open standards, for maximum compatibility with other phone systems.
  • You can use a Go!Cam (Chotto Shot), Talkman microphone, or SOCOM-style headset] for audio input. (And even if you don't have any of those, you can still send audio from a WAV file in a pinch).
"It's still pretty much beta software - the audio quality needs some work (but it is usable), the UI isn't very pretty, and video calls aren't working (yet!)," notes the authors.

There's a lot more information in the readme file included in the archive, so don't forget to go through it. Enjoy!

Recovery LE for 3.71 M33 v2

Description:
Quote:
Theketchupman and Team Wildcard has released Recovery LE for 3.71 M33 v2, a VSH plug-in that should allow users to modify multiple options on their PSP including the CPU Speed and its registry. If you've been using an older version of this application, the developers have implemented multiple changes that make this a worthy upgrade. Aside from the fact that this homebrew supports the 3.71 M33 v2 firmware, it also enables units to save the brightness settings when shut off.

Another novel feature is the addition of an autodetect feature which can establish if it's installed on a PSP Slim or the original PSP (with or without kernel 1.5). If kernel 1.5 is detected by this option, the application should allow you to change the kernel from 1.5 to 3.71 and back without having to reboot the handheld. Here are the rest of the changes as copy pasted from the developer's changelog:
  • (Fat only) Pandora menu added under Extends (allow you to convert your battery to Normal / autoboot / pandora)
  • Warning : DO NOT USE SLIM BATTERY (that's why the Pandora Menu will only shows up on a Fat PSP)
  • Recovery config change
  • Bug fix : CPU speed on screen wasn't good; it should be correct
  • (PSP Slim) since Dark_AleX's 3.71 M33 v2, DA has added charge via USB, so you can Enable/Disable it under Menu Advanced. However, it is not On the fly, so you need to reboot so the change can be set.
There is no Read Me file included with the application, so be very careful when using this homebrew. If you do plan on using this software, the developers gave word that you should delete the config.se and pConf.dat from flash 1before using it to avoid locking up your system.

PSPTools 0.1

Description:

[quote]File Description

Homebrew developer Darksidious has released PSP tools v0.1A. This application was coded in C/C++ and combines various utility programs into one package.

The homebrew allows users to create a Pandora battery, format the flash1 sector, delete your internet history, and more. Future releases will have a graphical user interface, compatibility with the PSP Slim and Lite, and other suggested changes from users.

So far, here's what the program can do (as translated by Google from its release thread):

* Pandoriser / Dépandoriser your battery
* To format your Memory Stick to create a Pandora
* Write msipl.bin on your Memory Stick (needed for Pandora)
* Sauveguarder register
* Restoring the registry previously recorded
* Delete config.se which puts the default configuration
* Format flash1
* Delete Internet history
* Create files on the important ms0

If you plan on running this application be advised that PSP Tools is in French. Users will also need the 1.50 kernel for the program to run. Remember to be careful when using this program since any application that can edit the system's registry has the potential of bricking you handheld. [/quote]

FreeRadio v1.7
Description:
So you just got your new 3.80m33 firmware. Well use it to its full potential with this app!!!

Quote:
File Description

If you've been enjoying your Sony PSP as an Internet radio player thanks to FreePlay's FreeRadio homebrew application, you may be interested to know that the developer has released an updated version, namely FreeRadio v1.6.

While version 1.6 still offers the same features as the previous version of FreePlay's server-less radio player portal (such as playback capability for shoutcasts, streaming MP3 and AAC formatted files, podcast, and web browsing capability), the latest version of FreeRadio boasts some new stuff, according to the developer:
Quote:
* Fixed the Readme. This ain't 2007 anymore

* Added support for user themes, based on cascading stylesheets. To make a theme, create a file called 'user_theme.css' in the RadioPersonalize folder and edit it with any text editor. It's a standard CSS stylesheet, so if you don't know about CSS, it's time to learn
* There are a few special pieces of the page which can be themed individually:
o 'bg': The background image.

o 'meta': The bar at the top of the screen that displays the current stream info.
o 'stopbutton': The 'stop playback' button.

To theme these pieces, make sure their name is preceded by a '#' in the user_theme.css file; this is how CSS knows it's a page element that has a specific ID. If you're confused, check out the example user_theme.css file; it's a copy of default the 'bg', 'meta', and 'stopbutton' theme settings.
In case you've been wondering, no, the user themes won't show up in the browser and on a podcast page. FreePlay also mentioned that FreeRadio cannot play ASX, as it is a Windows Media Player format that isn't supported by the Sony radio player plugin.
NEW IN 1.7
Quote:
* Added support for custom plugins. Included an example - a two-channel equalizer that displays beneath the 'stop' button. For an example of how plugins work, open X:radiopluginsequalize r.plugin in your favorite text editor.

o Plugins are self-contained JavaScript files, so if you're any good with that, you can easily make your own plugins. FreeRadio will automatically load any plugin files stored in the X:radioplugins folder with a filename ending in '.plugin'. The only requirements for a plugin are 'load' and 'start' functions and a variable named 'started'. The rest is up to you.

o Plugins are only loaded in the Shoutcast, Stream, and Playlist views; this is because rest either don't play audio or might not always look the same (since podcasts and RSS can use HTML).
* The web browser and bookmark links now open in a new tab, rather than the current one.

File Description

Coder Red_Squirrel visited the QJ.NET PSP Development Forums earlier to announce that the Alternative VSHMenu homebrew has been upgraded to version 3.5. This plugin offers all the fucntions of the M33 VshMenu, as well as its own utilities such as the ability to take screenshots of the XMB browser.

Red_Squirrel states that this will be the last update to the Alternative VSHMenù line. Here are version 3.5's changes
Quote:
* Changed the disposition of menu lines to avoid to occupy all PSP screen height.

* Added a function to enable/disable M33 Network Update.
* Now when VSHMenù begins, the button "Shutdown PSP" will be selected as the first. In this way the process of PSP turning off, reboot and standby is quickly.

* Added 2 new versions of the PRX: one of them is the Italian translation (by Red Squirrel) and the other is the French Translation (by Britix).

File Description
What better way to complement your newly-installed 3.80 M33 Custom Firmware on your Sony PlayStation Portable than to get outfitted with the Recovery LE plugin from homebrew developer theketchupman? Yes, that's right, he's rolled out a new version of his plugin and this time it supports the latest custom firmware from Team M33. Talk about convenient!
Here's the changelog (remember, this is a plugin, and not your usual file to flash :
* 100% functional in 3.80 M33
* adding "M33 network" setting in Advanced.
* Pandora now use (thx to HellCat & SilverSpring) hardware functions, since pandora's main functions no longer exist in 3.80.
* Removed : backing up and writing up EEPROM.
Bit of a bad news, though. There's a bug that may or may not cause the plugin itself to freeze whenever your PSP goes into Sleep Mode. Homebrew developer theketchupman asks that if anyone has any ideas regarding this little issue, or if they find any more bugs to report, then they can reach him at his e-mail address.

Description:

We're happy to announce that homebrew developer Dark AleX has released the latest custom firmware for the PlayStation Portable with CFW 3.90 M33. This new build fixes yet another bug connected to the March33 NO UMD.

Here's the specifics on the update taken from the Readme:

* March33 NO UMD: fixed (yet another) bug related with exiting with home. (infinite semaphore wait)

The developer also noted the changes in the auto-updater function that was included in the previous version of CFW 3.80. He's noted some instability with the latest version of the updater. Should this happen, Dark AleX mentions that you should restart the installer and try again.

In any case, here's the list of changes to the updater:

* The degeneration check and correction of IDS keys happens too in 3.71 now.
* Added code to download 3.90 PBP from net via wifi. Note that his code is not yet 100% stable, it may crash when selecting AP. In that case, reinit the installer.
* L+triangle has been restored as method to bypass battery. If you already have 390.PBP keep those buttons pressed until you see "Veryfing 390.PBP". If the 390.PBP is being downloaded bia wifi, press those buttons at the end of download until you see the previous sentence.

We strongly advise you to take a look at the Readme.txt file for more details on how to install the latest custom firmware on your PSP handheld. Please note that this requires your PSP to have CFW 3.52 M33-3 or higher alre

Developer DJB is sending out word that Disinter v3.80 is now available for use among the PSP's homebrew community. This PC-based .NET v2 app is used to copy applications and files to a PSP for making a Pandora MemStick for both the PSP Phat and Slim.

This particular release is DJB's version of an app originally released by developer Klutsh. Here are Disinter v3.80's current features:

* Either a 1.50 or 3.80 Firmware "Pandora" MemStick can be created.
* Option to install the 1.50 Kernel extentions for M33-3.80 on a "Phat" PSP.
* Loading of eBoots directly or from rar files.
* Full onscreen instructions.
* All features can be used on Vista.
* MD5 verification of eBoot's.

As for this release's latest changelog:

* Updated to use Despertar del Cementerio v4. (Installs M33-3.80-5)
* Updated to use Hellcats Pandora Installer for 3.xx, V3a
* Updated to use M33-3.80 1.50 Addon

We warn would-be users that this application is intended for use with the PSP Phat's battery only. Using this on the Slim's battery will cause it to brick. You'll also need to be updated to Microsoft .NET Framework V2, and must have custom firmware 3.xx running on your PSP. Full details regarding this application are available in the file bundle's readme.

pspME v0.2.1

Description:
Quote:
File Description

PlayStation Portable homebrew developer M@x sure does work fast, as another version of the phoneME port just been released. pspME version 0.2.1 has just gone live for JavaME developers out there.

In case you missed the earlier releases, here's a bit of a briefer. JavaME from Sun Microsystems is basically aimed at software development for small platforms (phones, PDAs, etc.). phoneME on the other hand, is a project which sports the JavaME source code licensed under the GNU General Public License, while pspME is the PSP port of phoneME. Anyway, here are the changes from the release' readme:

Enable browse and select JAR from local file system, don't have to input the full path name of JAR file now.
A little optimization of RMS speed.
Separate MIDI config and instrument files from binary bundle to decrease the size, and make you not have to download them for every release.

There you have it. Check out the pspME version 0.2.1 bundle (src and bin) below and give the readme file a once over before anything else.

Dow v0.1

Description:
Quote:
File Description

We've seen a good number of homebrew releases from PlayStation Portable developer bumuckl and today, the coder has released another one. It's a homebrew application called Dow! that will let you make "develop on the go."

As the name suggests, this homebrew application allows users to write code on their handhelds, as it provides a good number of code snippets for easy use. Since this is the initial release, Dow! still has its share of bugs and bumuckl notes that saved scripts can't be re-edited. Anyway, here are the planned functions for the app (from the readme):

safe in all kinds of files(LUA,HTML...)
open up previous saved or written files
improving the snippets
more support while creating scripts
export your projects
better compability to other LUAPlayers or Firmwares.

The dev also notes that Dow! works on custom firmwares on the Phat and currently doesn't work for Slim. Check it out by clicking the download below.

RSPsar Dumper version 3.0

Description:
Quote:
File Description

Let's keep it short, sweet, and simple: RSPsar Dumper version 3.0 is a major step up from the previous release, thanks to a little collaboration between PlayStation Portable homebrew developer and QJ.NET Forums member Red_Squirrel and a friend, Robert Metz.

It no longer requires a copyrighted prxdecrypt.prx plugin, thanks to Metz' K4LE/K3LE decryption algorithms. The Italian developer is proud to say that RSPsar Dumper v3.0 can be used immediately on your Sony PSP without any additional files.

Like it's previous releases, RSPsar Dumper version 3.0 will skip decrypting and decompressing the firmware on your PSP's memory stick, passing the dump immediately over to the PC the PSP is connected to. But the newest release will also be able to tell what decryption your firmware will need to be dumped.

If you're new to Red_Squirrel's RSPsar Dumper, you're free to read through the bundled documentation for ease of use, as well as where to install RSPsar Dumper on your memory stick.

Flashless Version Changer v2

Description:
Quote:
File Description

How would you like to change change your PSP's system version number, minus the flash? Well, JumpR's new homebrew application - Flashless Version Changer v2 - allows you to do precisely that in system information with the Slim version of Sony's handheld as well.

Before you do that, however, there are a couple of things that you should know, according to JumpR:

1. You need to first HEX-edit the vshctrl.prx and reflash it. JumpR admitted that there was some danger involved in doing so before, but not anymore with Pandora.
2. It doesn't allow you to play any new games or use any new features
3. This application is only compatible with firmware 3.90 M33, though JumpR may add other firmware versions later.

With those in mind, enable the plugin and create a vchanger.txt in the root, which you may fill with the version you want. JumpR noted that "it doesn't need to be a numeric version, you can use anything you want, even complete words. But the maximum it can go is 10 bytes, not any longer."

If you're into word processing on your Sony PSP, you may want to check out sconer's own take on the matter: the T9 Jotter 0.1 - T9 Word Processor Beta. While still in need of further testing, this is basically sconer's way of testing it out and asking for feedback from PSP users at the same time.

For those of you who may not be familiar with T9, otherwise known as Text on 9 keys, it's a system of predictive text that helps make typing text messages easier. T9 speeds up the process by using single key presses for each letter of a word, with more commonly-used words selected through possible combinations of numbers.

According to sconer, this is what you have to do to get the homebrew application running:

1. Put the contents of the attached file into: PSP/COMMON/
2. Locate the following address in your browser: file:/PSP/COMMON/T9/T9.html
3. Change the background image by editing the bgIMG variable in the html file! PNG will be supported in the next version!

Before you try out the program for yourself, heed the word of warning from sconer: "This is an early beta, so you'll find that many words wont display! This glitch will be fixed in the next version!" Thus said, kindly exercise caution when installing and running the application.

CWCheat 0.2.1 REV. A

Description:
Quote:
File Description

Developer weltall dropped by the QJ.NET PSP Development forum to inform us that the latest build of universal cheat application for the PlayStation Portable is now available with CWCheat 0.2.1 REV. A. The most notable addition to the latest build includes ID handling for other homebrews and the addition of four new code types.

Here's the complete changelog of CWCheat v0.2.1 since our previous coverage of the app:

0.2.1 REV. A RELEASE

- [ALL] Added a polish translation thanks to Bolec
- [ALL] Fixed a memory leak in the text reader
- [ALL] reworked partially cpu clock functions. now they will be able to work as expected also 3.80 without setting first 333/166 before changing values.
- [ALL] various optimizations in the cpu clock functions
- [GAME] Added four new code types. They are all test codes, but they check two adresses for ==, !=, >, <. This is their format:
0xDaaaaaaa 0xXbbbbbbb
0xnnnnnnnn 0x0000000Y
a = adress to the left operand of the test operation
b = adress to the right operand of the test operation
X = test operation to be executed: 4 for equal, 5 for not equal, 6 for less than, 7 for greather than
n = number of lines to skip if the test fails
Y = bits of the operation: 0 = 8bit, 1 = 16bit, 2 = 32bit
- [GAME] Added support to homebrew identification: an hash is done out of the launched eboot and an id is assigned from there in this format HBxxxxxxxx. This will allow you to keep your homebrew codes separated in the database.
- [ALL] fixed a bug in the cheat deletion function in the select cheats menu which didn't copy correctly the various codelines of the cheat under the deleted one, leaving codelines of the deleted cheat in place of the cheat under it.
- [ALL] the informations on the main menu about the memory stick total/available space was disabled for the 3.80+ firmwares because of a bug in the firmware which could lead to freeze. This was done as a temporary solution till a workaround to this problem is found. If, after opening the in game menu, the ms led stays blinking, don't do any file operation: reload/save db, save setting, search operations, selecting a remapsp. If you need those go out from the menu and reopen it in a time while the ms led isn't blinking. This doesn't affect older firmwares
- [GAME] some little fixes

CWCheat includes a lot of modules and additional files which may confuse the more casual PSP gamer. However, the app has a very extensive Readme.txt documentation which explains all of this. Please don't forget to read it for detailed instructions on how to install it on your handheld.

In any case, you can download the game from QJ.NET's download section which is accessible through the link below. Enjoy the download!

* Note: If you have 3.71 M33 or 3.80 M33 installed with "Despertar del Cementerio" of Dark_Alex, you don't need to follow this instructions, because the files aren't hided.
* For instaling Quick Flasher extrack all the content of the .RAR archive and copie it in the folder MsRoot in the root of yous memory stick
* Using Quick Flasher is very simple, use the direction pad or jostick and select one of the options by pressing the X buttom.

DeMoN X has come up with something interesting for PSP users who love their torrents and who use uPSP. It's called XAMPPLite, and it's a portable server setup meant for use with uPSP.

If you're interested in using it, there are some things you have to know beforehand. First off, the app wasn't tested on Vista. Second, and more importantly, there are some security issues that DeMoN X addressed in his forum post:

Security Issues:

* You need Port 443 open, Check your firewall/router.
* No .htaccess is supplied, any "unsafe" content put htdocs folder should be protected with .htaccess (common sense)
* Robots.txt included to prevent ALL search bots from seeing your content.

Low Battery Warning Plugin v0.1

Description:

Quote:
File Description
When outdoors, it is really a bummer when your PlayStation Portable runs out of battery. To solve this problem, the homebrew community has come up with various plugins that inform users whenever the battery is about to be drained.

Well, you can add another one into that list as coder Lasiaf has dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and released the application called Low Battery Warning Plugin. it is currently on version 0.1.

Simply put, when the plugin is active, the Sony handheld's power led will blink when the battery level reaches 15% and below. The coder said that while there are several programs already like this, others might still find this particular one useful.

Low Battery Warning Plugin v0.1 comes with its own Readme.txt file which will provide you with an installation guide and controls.

8GB memory stick support on any CFW

Description:

Quote:
One of the better things that CFW 3.90 M33 has to offer is the support for memory sticks bigger than 4GB. However, the most obvious problem here is what about those users who have still not updated to the latest custom firmware.

Homebrew coder extraordinaire Dark AleX is out to solve that exact problem with the release of a new patch. This particular release will give users 8GB memory stick support regardless of what custom firmware they are on.

* Copy the patch(attached) to /kd folder
* Add the following line in all pspbtcnf*.txt file: "/kd/mspatch.prx" after the line "/kd/msstor.prx"

Note that that you are manually dealing with the flash0 of your PlayStation Portable so be sure that you know exactly what you are doing. As an appendix, also note that you'll need the 1.50 Kernel add-on before you can running this patch, and make sure you don't forget that, for some firmwares, the /kd folder is named km.

LED Control v0.2

Description:

Homebrew developer brk3 has just released a new application for the PlayStation Portable simply called LED Control. Just like the name implies, this gives users more control over the Sony handheld's LED lights.

The coder said that this application will come handy especially now that there's still no iR Shell for CFW 3.90 M33. The developer added that it would be good to have the same functionality in the normal XMB.

For those who are wondering, brk3 also mentioned that the plugin should be compatible with all custom firmwares so you shouldn't encounter any problems when using this. The changelog for this release is as follows:

* v0.2: Upon several requests the activation key has being changed from "LEFT Trigger + Note" to "LEFT Trigger + Volume Down"
* v0.1: Initial release

Custom Firmware 3.90 M33 update 2

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Here's something new from homebrew developer Dark AleX: the newest build for the custom firmware 3.90 M33 for the PlayStation Portable released just a few weeks ago. The new CFW 3.90 M33-2 improves much of the plugins since the previous version, as well as adds in a couple of patches specifically for the PSP Slim & Lite.

Anyway, to keep it simple here's a list of the new changes noted in the latest version of CFW 3.90 M33-2:

* Improvements in plugins loading code:

o Fixed some problems with problematic cards due to filesystem not mounted.

o Now plugins should read the faster.

o Problem fixed with lines with spaces at the end.

* Added the rest of regions to the recovery option fakeregion.

* (PSP SLIM): Added patches in nand ipl to allow Booster multiiplloader and TimeMachine iplloader to boot from nand.
Please also note that only CFW 3.90 M33-2 and higher can be booted from the Slim's nand with the ipl loaders mentioned. As for the network updater, here's what's new:

* The 3.90 eboot downloading code is now more stable, no more freezes after selecting AP

* Memory stick write in the 3.90 downloading code is delayed the maximum possible for faster operation (the system prefers big chunks of data written at once).
To install the latest update manually, make sure that you already have CFW 3.90 M33 installed on your PSP and simply copy the update folder to /PSP/GAME and run the program.

We strongly advise that you take a look at the Readme.txt file for more details on how to install the latest custom firmware on to your PSP. You can download CFW 3.90 M33-2 below.

Patch for 3.71 fatmsmod prx for 3.80/3.90 M33 v2

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom. If there's a hitch, Dark AleX is here to stitch. And the revered custom firmware developer presents a quick patch to allow the loading of 3.71 fatmsmod.prx for quicker memory stick reading on DAX' 3.80 and 3.90 M33 custom firmwares. So naturally, that's to all users of Sony's PlayStation Portable running those the author's CFWs.

Please be reminded that this is the patch to allow the loading of the aforementioned memory stick module, fatmsmod.prx, on your more modern custom firmware. So we repeat: this isn't a full fix for those who find memory stick reading irritatingly slow. You're going to have to get your hands dirty and flex your psardumping muscles to transfer a 3.71 fatmsmod.prx over to your targeted 3.80/3.90 M33-powered PSP.

The archive you see listed below carries an EBOOT that will automate the flashing process for the fatmsmod.prx you've transferred, plus form a way to make the newly flashed PRX more compatible for the recent custom firmware. There's a tradeoff to this, however.

As QJ.NET reader akadewboy points out in the comments below, you will experience a speedup in memory stick loading. But you may also notice how your stored pictures, MP3 files, and videos are no longer being read properly as they should. Some people have claimed this has happened to them, so be wary of the possible consequences.

If you do decide that it's worth a try anyway, remember to read the bundled documentation before planning your next steps out.

UPDATE:

Thanks to a tip from Torch, we've just learned that Dark AleX has updated the patch with the following new information:

* Added to the installer the check of correct checksum of fatmsmod.prx. Use only encrypted or decrypted version of file.
* Music, videos, etc now work.

As we mentioned earlier, this still takes a bit of work to get up and running, so folks may want to keep checking the forums for additional information.

Time Machine v0.1

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Dark AleX's Time Machine is now out for the PSP! If you remember, we were shown how it could install 1.50 kernel on the PSP Slim, and PSP FW 2.70 also on the Slim. It can load more FW and CFWs than we previously thought, actually. Sorta like devhook.

Here's jsut a tiny excerpt from the ReadMe:

The Timemachine is a program to load previous firmwares and custom firmwares from memory stick
using pandora. Like devhook, but working throgh pandora and custom ipl's, it would work even if the
flash and nand ipl of the machine is destroyed.
The timemachine is useful to run software that is not supported anymore, and also as a way of
booting psp's even if the internal firmware is destroyed. It can also be useful for developers
to test their homebrew in different firmwares.

Currently the timemachine can install the following firmwares:

- Original 1.50 (can only be loaded on the phat)
- 1.50 with some 3.40 hw modules. Can be loaded on both, phat and slim.
- 3.40 OE (can only be loaded on phat)
- 3.60 M33 (can only be loaded on slim)

Rest of cfw will be added in the future.

Requeriments of time machine:

- The timemachine itself doesn't require any firmware, only a pandora battery.
Timemachine nand boot in slim, requires, however, 3.90 M33-2 or greater.
- The timemachine installer requires 2.71 SE or higher.

Users are advised to take a look at the readme for more info on the homebrew program

PSAFE v3.1

Description:

Quote:
File Description
In a response to a flurry of e-mails about PSAFE crashes, homebrew developer TRStealthX responded by releasing PSAFE v3.1. This update basically patches some bugs that the developer found in the application and also addresses two major security flaws present in the web client code - flaws which allowed anyone to change your IP or view your log.

For those of you who may not familiar with TRStealthX's brainchild, PSAFE is an anti-theft homebrew application for the Sony PSP, similar in premise to realn0whereman's ATPSP. It basically allows you to track the whereabouts of your handheld. If ever a thief should steal your PSP, the program will send you an e-mail along with the thief's IP address.

Also, the details of the upcoming PSAFE v4.0 are all in the application's readme file. TRStealthX is still gratefully accepting donations, so if you'd like to see v4.0 out sooner, a little financial assistance would go a long way to making that a reality.

Songbird: Music player for your PSP's web browser

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Coder nickdagamer visited the QJ.NET PSP Developer Forums earlier to announce the release of the Songbird homebrew. This web browser-based application will enable PSP owners to run songs on their handheld. Imagine an application like the PSPtunes music player, and you've got the idea.

Users are reminded that Songbird uses an external xml file to load songs. Furthermore, the app will only play compressed MP3 files. Instructions on how to convert songs for use on Songbird are available in the file bundle's readme. You may also want to visit nickdagamer's release thread over at the QJ.NET PSP Development Forums if you're interested in giving your feedback.

PCMonitor Alpha v5

Description:

Quote:
What It Does And How It Does It
This project allows you to view your computers CPU, RAM and Network Usage on your PSP graphically.
You are required to run a small server application on the PC which you wish to monitor, the PSP then connects to this over WiFi and displays the info.
The server is written in VB6, while the PSP code is in C++

Notes
- Although the WiFi connection screen only uses the debug text the resource monitoring screen is graphical.
- PSP is clocked down to 111Mhz when using the application to extend battery life.
- Server only tested on Windows XP SP2 (may not work on anything below SP1 as some network usage monitoring code relies on it)
- Requires 3.XX Kernel (Tested on 3.90 M33-2 only) so make sure it is in the GAME folder (if it is set to 3.XX kernel) or GAME3XX
- Allows WPA WiFi Access

Usage
! The IP Address of the server must be set in "wifi.cfg" (in the format address=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) NO SPACES!!!
1. The "PCMonitor" folder must be copied to either the GAME folder (if it is set to 3.XX kernel) or the GAME3XX folder on the PSP
2. To use this application the server (PCMonitor.exe, Located in the "PC Server" directory) MUST be running
3. Open the application on the PSP and connect to the network
4. To make the server startup automatically with Windows, create a shortcut to PCMonitor.exe, copy it to the startup folder in the start menu, right click it and go to properties, go to shortcut tab and change target from "pathtoexePCMonitor.exe" to "pathtoexePCMonitor.exe" -minimized
Home will allow you to exit the application.

Misc
- If the PSP is no longer in the application and the server reads state Connected (7), then you will need to reset the server to use it again.
- The PSP will ONLY connect in when the server is in state "Listening (2)"

Known Bugs
- If the PSP drops the connection (low signal, server reset, server closed, wifi switched off, etc.), it will not try to reconnect, it will just show a set of static values but the application may be exited by the home button still (This will be corrected in the next release)
- If the IP Address is incorrect in the config ("wifi.cfg"), the application will just sit on a blank screen but the application may be exited by the home button still (This will be corrected in the next release)

Changelog
Alpha 5
Bugfix - Second attempt at fixing the overflow '6' error in server (had to do with how much data had been transfered over the network since boot, as always feedback is appreciated)

Alpha 4

BATalert.prx

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Homebrew developer Pspflashsystem has devised a new plugin which allows you to keep tabs on your PlayStation Portable's remaining battery charge.

Entitled BATalert.prx, this plugin warns you when your PSP's battery is starting to run low by the frequent blinking shown on your LED power indicator. Starting from 30% power remaining, the LED indicator blinks faster the more the battery drains itself.

To install BATalert on your handheld, make sure to extract all the files found in the archive into your PSP's root directory. Then add the following line to the VSH.TXT, GAME.TXT, POPS.TXT, and GAME150.TXT files found in your SEPLUGINS directory:

* Ms0:/SEPLUGINS/BATalert.prx

Afterwards, restart your PSP and enter recovery mode by holding down the R Trigger button upon boot up. Finally, make sure to enable the BATalert.prx plugin for the VSH, GAME, POPS options. The plugin should then run automatically upon starting up your PSP.

As always, make sure to read the program's Readme.txt file included in the bundle for more information on how to install the homebrew app. In any case, we hope you enjoy downloading this nifty application.

File Description
If you're in love with the Mac OS X Leopard interface, here's the perfect portal for your PlayStation Portable. PSP homebrew developer bladefinor (Dolphin Projects) has released a portal that mimics the distinct Apple look, called Mac OS X Leopard.

It's currently on version 0.2 beta, so as you will notice, some of the functions aren't working as of yet. So far here are Mac OS X Leopard's features (taken from the release thread):

Change wallpaper (in v0.2 BETA it will be a temporarly wallpaper if you don't want to replace the wallpaper file to your own...) - 100%
Login screen (create account directly from PSP) - 100%
Special minimize (the button in the right corner on the opened window) - 100%

PSP iTunes Controller

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Ooblik has released his PSP iTunes Controller via our forums today. This app, for those of you who are interested, allows you to control your iTunes wirelessly from your PSP.

You folks would also be glad to know that it supports multiple connections, so that means you can actually use more than just one PSP to control iTunes. Talk about multi-media technology, eh?

Anyhow, installation instructions are as follows:

1. Copy the "iTCntrl" folder to the ROOT of your Memory Stick.
2. Start iTunes
3. Run the application after iTunes has loaded.
4. Go to the URL displayed at the bottom of the applications window with your PSP Web Browser. ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ])

Other important stuff to remember about this app is that this is still in beta. So you may very well expect some bugs and other whatnots that should be good for a fixin' the next time Ooblik releases a new version of this app.

And then some more:

* This requires the Visual Basic 6 Runtimes form Microsoft.
* You may have to unblock the program with Windows Firewall.
* If you start the application BEFORE iTunes you will get errors.
* You must forward port 1020 if you are behind a firewall or router.

Anyhow, make sure to read through the read me attached in the file thoroughly to spare yourself the agony of redoing things again. For further assistance, discussions, or comments, do check out our forums as well for more.

Project4 Open Beta 3

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Homebrew developer Auraomega sent QJ.NET an email informing us that Project4 lives on. As a matter of fact, the coder had already worked on and had released Open Beta 3 for this Sony PSP XMB replacement.

According to Auraomega, it is true that the source code were lost at college but he was able to find a backup taken the day after release of Open Beta 2. The coder added that the secrecy involving the project was due to the possibility that he may not be able to update it enough.

Anyway, that's all in the past now and Open Beta 3 is now here for the taking. The following changes were implemented by the coder in this build:

* Added a boot sound.
* Added an option to turn the bootsound on or off.
* Added an optional filebrowser background, perfect for people who find their normal background doesn't go well in the filebrowser or gets in the way.
* Added a clock.
* Added the ability to move the clock around the screen.
* Changed the code to load the EBOOT menu when entering a folder with an EBOOT.PBP inside, only applies if using the "Request" option.
* Allowed the icons to be varying sizes, giving the ability to customise the menu even more than before. Icon sizes are determined during bootup, so no editing in the config required.
* Moved the selected icon to the centre, instead of the first.
* When playing music, album art can be showed as long as Folder.jpg is present in the directory.
* Added M3U playlist support, which works in all directories above or below unlike previous versions.
* Added the "Low Key Music Player" which is like a very basic version of LightMP3 installed in the flash, when booting up the PSP if you press the left shoulder button it is loaded, and plays music in the file ms0:/PSP/MUSIC/LKMP.m3u. The clock speed is drastically reduced, making this a good option for those who use their PSPs as their main mp3 player.
* Added some notes saying how to save, and how to temp save the config.
* Changed the about screen to make it appear neater, and compacted the lists.
* Centralised the menus (mount, request, extended) which looks neater, also changed the colour scheme for them.
* Updated the default config written to comply with the updated code.
* Added a [#] to each of the options that do not yet work, these are mounting of flash3, XMB loading, and resetting the PSP.
* Added a device mounter that can mount:
o Flash0:/ (read mode only)
o Flash1:/
o Flash2:/
o Disc0:/ (untested but should work)
o Host0:/ (assuming RemoteJoy or other plugins are loaded)

Auraomega is also reminding everyone that users of Project4 Open Beta 3 should have enough space in their flash0 to avoud problems. Also, be sure to browse through the documentation before doing anything.

File Description

Homebrew developer Sakya has released LightMP3 v2.0.0 Alpha 2. The latest evrsion of the application sees quite a number of bugfixes as well as some new features that users will undoubtedly appreciate.

Perhaps the biggest fix, and the one audiophiles will undoubtedly be most happy about, is the re-implementation of FLAC support. In addition, those with huge music libraries will be pleased to know that the media library is now working and that cover art can now be retrieved from ID3v2 tags.

Another new feature that the developer added is the option for users to scan their Memory Stick, browse their media by Artist, Album and Genre, and search for text (in album, title and artist). Here are the instructions as taken from the release thread:

For coverart LightMP3 will look:

1. In ID3v2 info (only MP3)
2. For a file named like the file .jpg (ex: filename.mp3.jpg)
3. For a file named cover.jpg in the same directory of the file

UPMSInstaller v3r3
Description:

Quote:
File Description

The U.P.M.S. Team, a group of homebrew developers, has released a new build for the application UPMSIntaller. Basically, this program gives you a clean memory stick for a fresh install.

So why would you want a clean memory stick? The team issued this further explanation:

If you already have either a Pandora or UPMS stick that is working, you can now choose to clean the stick and do a fresh install either as an upgrade or because you want to without having to write the IPL to the stick again or install the fatms371.prx.

Given the nifty feature that does away with the writing of the IPL to the memory stick again, we believe that UPMSInstaller v3r3 makes the process a whole lot easier. Also, it makes everything faster.

This is highly useful especially for those who are just beginning to explore the homebrew capabilities of their Sony handheld. If you need more information, you can refer to the source link below.

V0.2 B

* Displays an error screen and then exits if not launched with iR Shell (it used to freeze on black screen)

Arnookie's PSPTube (edited)

Description:

This is an edited version of PSPTube 2/29/08. Its the same program, but there were changes in the youtube js and more sites were added. Also be aware that not all of these new additions were coded by Arnookie. This download contains scripts from other coders as well.

SofiyaCat's FLV player for the PSP, PSPTube, may still be in its evaluation stages but it's already become a popular program in the homebrew scene. Now, Arnookie has released PSPTube 010308, a slightly modified version to PSPTube 20080301.

Besides the rearrangement of the digits in the version release, Arnookie's PSPTube010308 Arnookies Modified 4 basically adds eight working search sites to the application:

* Onsen
* AmebaVision
* Dailymotion (new)
* SixRooms (new)
* YouTube
* YouPorn
* RedTube
* TNAFlix

* GoogleVideo
* Veoh

Arnookie instructs us to unzip the download first and then have it installed in the game371 folder of your unit. Please make sure you know what you're doing before using the application, as PSPTube is still in its evaluation stages.

Preview 0.2

* [ADDED] Delete function in Filebrowser

Multi Cementerio

Ever since Dark_AleX released a DDC version which installs custom firmware 3.90 M33-3, there hasn't been a lot of support for applications which can run on 3.80 and other older CFWs.

Fortunately, developer Ky Kiske released a new homebrew app which allows you to freely switch across any of the older firmware and test different applications on them. Entitled "Multi Cementerio", it also allows users to disable flash formatting and keep the same configuration and registry from the previously installed CFW.

Here's a list of features which Multi Cementerio comes packed with:

- Ability for installing the offical firmwares 3.93, 3.90 and 3.80.

- Ability for installing the custom firmwares 3.90 M33-3 and 3.80 M33-5.

- Ability to disable flash1 formatting (by default it formats), by pressing R before starting the installation. The helpfull thing about this is that you won't lose your configuration and registry.
- It informs you of how many percent of battery you have left, and you will be warned if less then 5% is left.
- A file existance and checksum check was added before it starts formatting the flashes (in the original DDC, it formatted, then checked existance).

Please note that this program is only handy for developers that need to test their applications on older firmwares, so take care when installing this on your handheld. For additional details on how to install Multi Cementerio on your handheld, check out the Readme.txt file included in the file bundle which you can download through the link below.

We've got some good news and bad news lined up for you regarding developer silmarilion and the GameMusicGear homebrew player for the PSP. The good news is that silmarilion passed by the QJ.NET Forums to announce the release of GameMusicGear~MX Release Candidate 1.0 (GMG_MX RC1). This new release introduces the plugin system that silmarilion had discussed before, divided into three types (quoting the readme):

* Input Plugins: For audio decoding (like mp3 plugin, spc plugin, etc)

* Output Plugins: To encode audio to another format (currently wav and mp3 encoders are available)

* Visual Plugins: For music visualization, lyrics display (in the future), etc. Very similar to the winamp plugins.

Aside from the new plugins, GMG_MX RC1 also comes with these functions:

* Skin Support - There are two skins available right now, a new

* simple skin, and the nice old skin made by rockMax.

* Mini Visualizer - There are two mini visualizers available, spectrum
* and wave, inspired by the ones found in winamp.
* Chinnese GBK, BMP and TrueType font support, with LATIN and UTF8 support.
* Zip and Rar files support.
* In game configuration screen.
* Control keys configuration - You can configure it through the
* config menu, or you can do it manually editing the 'keys' file.

As for the band news: silmarilion notes that this release won't have the same compatability range as its previous release, since the dev had to the formats to the new plugin system. This problem is expected to be fixed in the future. GMG MX currently compatible with PSP Fats and Slims running on firmware 3.xx, though a 1.50 kernel version is also under development.

We remind the readers that this version is just a release candidate, and still contains some bugs. Those who wish to report any issues theyexperience will want to infom silmarilion via the QJ.NET PSP Development Forums. Other important details regarding this release are available in the file bundle's readme.

News on the homebrew front! A beta has been released for Daedalus R14, the Nintendo 64 emulator for the PSP. This update doesn't come from StrmnNrmn though, but from developer Wally of Homebrew Heaven and Exophase.

The program has several changes as well as some bugs, but nothing major. It might still be too early to hope for an official release, but hey, we have the beta. That's good news all around. Here are the developer's notes from Wally:

Some changes are :

A bit of ME support
A tad faster
A bit buggier.
New Icons etc

Known issues:
Debug menus popup - these are bypassable by pressing the SQUARE button and shouldn't be very often.

Be sure to read the documentation that is included in the download.

Unofficial Daedalus R14 Beta (Captain Morgan)

Description:

File Description

*UPDATE*: Thanks to QJ.NET readers fungusinmymilk and femar7856, we now know that the code of Daedalus R14 has been with more than one homebrew developer.

CaptainMorgan4, (a.k.a. Captain Morgan) of StrmnNrmn.com released his own version of Daedalus R14 Beta, dubbed "CPM R14beta," which the homebrew developer claims to be a little bit more stable than that of Wally's release. The author said:

Since Wally released his updated version of the R14beta I find it basically harmless to release here the R14beta I have from the previous "Daedalus R14beta" thread not too long ago. Anyway I believe it's pretty stable it works great with my PSP so I figured I'd let you guys check it out.

We're not sure if its FW 3.xx compatible yet, but it's likely to be. Captain Morgan says that the archive contains the developer's files and may instantly reflect a good configuration for the N64 emulator. The 1.6 MB download also includes a few preview thumbnails for some games.

Both packages are related somehow, however, and Captain Morgan still credits his version to HomebrewHeaven.net and fellow developer Wally. The download comes next, and it's renamed just to avoid confusion. Enjoy!

PSP CFW 4.01 M33

(With Official Eboot Already Included)

Description:

Quote:
It's finally here! Dark Alex and the rest of Team M33 have been popping in and out lately with their messages about creating a new custom firmware. While their previous release had CFW 3.90, the release of the official 4.01 FW prompted them to follow suit with one of their very own.

In comes CFW 4.01 M33 with the following changes:

* Bug fix: vshmenu didn't let change camera mode due to camera_plugin using select button. Fixed, now vsh menu will not be loaded when using the camera.

* Recovery can now be translated, See how below. Translation to spanish is autoincluded.

* Updated the M33 SDK with a new function and sample, and released the psp-packer tool to compress prx's and PBP's in the ~PSP format.
* The folder of 4.01 and highre homebrew will be GAME4XX so it won't need change on update.

Make sure you take a look at the readme for installation procedures and other notes form Dark AleX and Team M33. The team also notes that the 1.50 kernel add-on will be released in a few hours, so make sure you check back on that. In the mean time, update your CFW!

Despertar del Cemeterio v6

Description:

Quote:
Quote:
File Description

Dark AleX is back with a new version for the "Universal Unbricker" for the PSP! This time around, Despertar del Cementerio v6 is chock-full of bug fixes and features. And for the most part, the problem with certain TA-088 PSP models have been addressed.

For those new to this unbricker, and as a recap, Despertar del Cementerio (aka DC) can be used in conjuction with a pandora battery, which then allows you to install pretty much any custom firmware back on your PSP.

Here's the full changelog for Despertar del Cementerio v6:

* Now installs 4.01 M33-2

* Change of core. Now it uses 4.01 M33 core. This fixes some TA-88 crashing because of 1.5/3.40 kernel. Note that there are still other kind of newest TA-88 which cannot boot DC at all.

* GUI of both installer and DC itself changed to a xmb looking one.

* Added the option "Test M33" which boots 4.01 M33-2 from the memory stick.

Despertar del Cemeterio v7

Description:

Quote:
It's here guys! Dark_AleX' latest update to his Despertar del Cementerio "Universal Bricker" has arrived, upping it to version 7. This one carries with it the ability to fully regenerate the IDStorage.
Quote:

This is really great news, because we know how much of a hassle it is to have the IDStorage wiped out. With this version, if your IDStorage on your PSP gets fully wiped out or contains corrupt keys you will be able to recover it.

There's also other cool things made available to you in DC7. For one, a format flash function has been added to the menu. And as with its previous releases, DC7 is compatible with a Pandora battery to restore and install custom firmware 4.01 M33-2 on the PSP. However, do note that newer models of Sony's handheld housing a TA-088 v3 motherboard still remain unsupported.

For those who already have the previous version of Despertar del Cementerio on your memsticks, you only have to copy the DC7 folder to PSP/GAME and launch the application from within the game menu.

Full installation instructions are at the readme file, so make sure to go through that thoroughly. And as always, do exercise caution when installing homebrews in your PSPs, especially for the new ones out there who have just been introduced to the wonder world of homebrew community.

PSP Pandora Deluxe v1.2

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Quote:

Release Notes:

Here you have it, an all-in-one solution for your Pandora Needs.

This program is designed to prepare your PSP Memory Stick to be used with the Pandora Battery. Unfortunately this program can not change your Battery to Pandora, however it will copy programs to the Memory Stick in order for you to do this yourself.

The main reason of this version was to fix some problems with occured when trying to use the 1.50 Downgrader and/or Despertar Cementerio v3+v4. Now, if you try and install the 1.50 Downgrader, it will not let you install Despertar Cementerio v3-v5, the ELF menu, or the Pandora Support Tools (this is because of some imcompatibility issues). However you may now Install Despertar Cementerio v3+v4 together at the same time, without any collisions. Also, the button which you would usually set for the ELF Menu can be used to boot the 1.50 Downgrader (when the 1.50 Downgrader is installed.)

I've also included the M33 1.50 Kernel Addons for all the Despertar Cementerio installations. So now if you select the "Install M33 1.50 Addons" option, the program will install the 1.50 Kernel Addons as shown in the list below:

- If you install Despertar Cementerio v3 it will install the 3.71 M33 1.50 Addon.

- If you install Despertar Cementerio v4 it will install the 3.80 M33 1.50 Addon.

- If you install Despertar Cementerio v5 it will install the 3.90 M33 1.50 Addon.

- If you install Despertar Cementerio v7 it will install the 4.01 M33 1.50 Addon.

I hope you enjoy this new release...

Recovery Flasher v1.30

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Quote:

- Flashes a fresh M33 CFW (3.71, 4.01) for recovering semi-bricks or to up-/downgrade CFW

- does not use Pandora, runns from the recovery menu or the XMB

- does not use (as in launch) the original Sony Updater (only extracts all required files from the original .PBP)

- runns fine on CFWs lower than 3.52-M33-3 - handy for upgrading older FWs w/o the "need to go 3.52, then 3.52-3, then higher" odyssey :-)

- runns fine from TimeMachine (3.40-OE on Fat and 3.60-M33 on Slim)

- can backup the FW flash and restore selected parts (XMB theme, settings, PSN activation)

Usage

========================= ===============

After launching the app, either from the recovery menu or via the XMB you'll eventually get into the mainmenu.

Everything should be pretty selfexplanatory, you can flash a new firmware, make a complete flash0 to flash2 backup or restore certain things from your backup.

The option "Launch another app" will give you a list of the games/apps you have in /PSP/GAME on your memstick.

You can then choose one and run it directely from Recovery Flasher.

Usefull to use some other apps on semibricks when you can't use the XMB to launch them, or for those people who already have a preffered app they use from the recovery menu but want to install the Flasher as well.

Restoring a complete firmware from a backup

-----------------------------------------

Since v1.30 you can restore a complete firmware from your flash backup.

This can be almost any firmware you like and it doesn't matter what's currently installed on the PSP (current firmware and firmware to be installed can be different).

It could be a FW not natively supported by Recovery Flasher or a premodded one, for example.

You can even flash the backup of one PSP to another one!

The signchecks, that usually prevent copying a flash0 between different PSPs, are removed during backup and recreated while restoring!

REQUIREMENTS: There's only one tiny bit required in addition to your

backup: The original updater .PBP of the firmware you are going to restore! Again, this can be either in the RECOVERY folder itself, or in the memstick root, with the usual renaming applied.

The updater is required to load some special modules needed for initialising the flash for the firmware that's going to be flashed.

Finally, take note that this is a bit more dangerous than installing a fresh FW since we can't know what has been done to the files, and if some are damaged or even missing it can result in a brick - so always be cautious if using a backup from someone else!

NOTE: For restoring a 3.60-M33 on the Slim, use the 3.52 updater (352.PBP)

Backup Folders

-----------------------------------------

Since v1.30 you can also have multiple backups at once.

When making a backup you have the coice of overwriting an existing one or creating a new one. When creating a new one, folders will be named like "Backup_001", "Backup_002" and so forth.

You are then free to rename those folders to whatever you like to give them more descriptive names for what's in there.

Recovery Flasher will show the renamed folders with no problems and you can then use them to restore or save new backups in there.

You can also create folder with propper names before making a backup and then "fill" the backup into them.

The backup folders are located in ms0:/flash_backup/

UPTInstaller v4.3

Description:

Quote:
File Description
Quote:

With the release of the new Custom Firmware 4.01 M33 by Dark AleX,

Gh0st/MaGnaTeK of Team PSP4NOOBZ UPT found it prudent to update their own UPTInstaller for the PlayStation Portable to version 4.3. The latest build of the application is now fully compatible with the newly released CFW.

For those of you not familiar with the app, UPTInstaller essentially helps clean your memory stick for a fresh install of any new Custom Firmware. This can be especially useful for upgrading your memory stick from a working Pandora or UPMS stick.

Aside from being fully compatible with CFW 4.01 M33, the developer also noted that this version no longer needs to have fatmsmod.prx installed.

If you already have the new CFW 4.01 M33 installed, please note that using any other version of UPT or UPMS to install your Pandora Memory Stick will brick your PSP. Before running the app on your handheld, make sure to browse through the tutorial and other relevant documentation included in the file bundle.

The latest version of Nick Swardh's homebrew application PSP Video Converter has landed, and it's now at v2.81. If the previous version saw the app turn the PSPVC into a personal online converter, this one finds this PSPVC updated to version 1.1.

And more, actually, cos he's now removed the port selection, and so the server now runs on port 80. A download progress bug has also been fixed, so that shouldn't... erm.. bug you as much now. Some other stuff from the changelog for version 2.81:

* Improved screenshot/icon feature

* Define your own video resolutions

* Fixed a DirectX check & version check bug

* Changed default installation dir to "Program Files"

As usual, you can find out more about this application and the complete blow by blow of its features by heading to Nick Swardh's official PSPVC site cited in our source link below.

Presenting...

TruPhoto - A whole new way to look.

There's no readme included, basically because I'm too lazy after finishing this. So listen up close if you wanna know what you are doing.

TruPhoto is intended to eventually be able to completely replace the built-in photo viewer. At this point, the only feature it doesn't have that the official one does is setting a wallpaper (I plan to accomplish this soon). It is built "around the idea that photo viewing and manipulation should be intuitive and realistic.

Use the on-screen pointer (which will also be compatible with the touchscreen once available) to grab and drag your photos around the screen. The pointer is controlled by the analog stick and grip is controlled by X. You can zoom in (circle) and out (triangle) and straighten (square) your photos.

One thing you may notice in the screenshot is a dock. "What do these do and how do they work?" I'll tell you.

These icons react to different actions.

Clicking on HOME will return you to your default album.

Dragging a photo on VIEW will bring focus to that photo. Dragging an album on VIEW will open that album.

Dragging a photo to INFO will information on that photo.

Dragging anything onto HIDE will put it away into the box. Clicking the box will empty it back onto the table.

Clicking HELP will refresh you on the controls.

"How do I add photos/albums to TruPhoto?" This is the easy part. Each folder within the "PHOTO" folder in TruPhoto is treated as an album. Every PNG and JPG photo within your albums is automatically loaded when you load TruPhoto.

"How do I change the default blue table to my own photo like in the second screenshot?" Simple. Add your PNG photo to the TruPhoto folder and name it "bg.png"

Any questions, comments, and suggestions are welcome.

Enjoy.

Simply drag and drop the folder named "IRSHELL" (inside the 3.81.1 download above)into the root of your memory stick. It will ask if you want to overwrite the existing contents with the same name. When does just choose ok. Now your all updated.

PS: Try checking the included readme to be 100% sure.

Thanks for replying so fast. Ok i was reading the read me and i came across this...

"This version only supports the *bugfixed* version of Dark_AleX's multi-disc popsloader
and NOT the one included with 3.71 M33-4."

What does the read me mean by that??? If you know?
Thanks again King Wolf

Re: SBrown's Apps Proj.4:replacesXMB+ UnlimitedVid:high res convter+ PSPTUBE!12/22 12

Sure no prob. Dark Alex released a minor bug fix to the multi-disc popsloader (lets you play ps1 games like final fantasy that have more than one disc). This bug fix version isn't included in the 3.71-4 download.

So basically all that quoted statement is saying is that the updated irshell wont work with the original (non-bugfixed) version of the multi-disc popsloader.

Sorry if I sound redundant or if im telling you stuff you already know. I just figured that its best to be thorough, rather than miss something.

Very nice list bro. You you should make a list of some more emulators, and maybe homebrew games. Check out PSP-Hacks.com for more applications!

There are step by step instructions in the IRSHELL user guide. If you still have problems, tell what part of the instructions you got lost on and I'll help you from there.
