If you’ve been in on the homebrew front for a while, then you’d most likely know of the original SNES9xTYL emulator, coded by YoyoFR and Laxer3a. Their final release, which was over a year ago, marked their retirement from the developing front, and they left behind the source codes for any willing developer to pick it up.



And pick it up coders have. Updates have been few and sparse, but since the original project creators left, there have been a few improvements made by various teams, ranging from support for the Slim, to bug and performance fixes. However, the SMCM team, which consists of a team of Japanese developers, have released two updates to the emulator in a week. The original improved the sound quality and the SRAM access, but as a result, the emulator took a small performance hit. The latest update, featured below, improves the speed quality again, deemed "significant" by some.

So, if you’re willing to give this homebrew a test drive, then by all means, try it out! In my own opinion, this is one of THE best emulators out there, fully capable of running most SNES games at full speeds at high quality. With these recent releases, hopefully it’ll be even better!

SNES is indeed the greatest emulator for the PSP. One of the first developed, one of the first to get games running at 100% speed. Awesome history , awesome developers. Well I guess we can expect a lot more with what looks like a dedicated dev team working on it.
