PSP Portable Copy NOT coming with PS3’s 2.2fw

Originally, the 2.2 firmware update for the PS3 was supposed to come with the Blu-ray Profile 2.0, also referred to as BD-Live. This would allow PS3’s to download content for movies, anything from trailers to extra features for user’s Blu-ray movies. It also meant that items such as cell phones could receive images and ringtones using the same feature. The new profile would also allow for resuming a movie from where it was stopped, even after ejection of the disc. And, to round it out, the PS3’s internet browser and video playback features were to be enhanced, and the PSP to PS3 interaction would also improve, including features such as using the PSP as a remote for music, or copying files and playlists over. The generalized Blu-ray features were also going to be made available to the more-modern Blu-ray players that supported an internet connection (as many of the 1st gen players did not have an ethernet port).

Then, there was the rumored PSP Portable Copy, a rumor started by PC World, which would allow Blu-ray movies to be copied in standard definition for the PSP to be played on-the-go. To some degree, this had made sense, as Sony said at CES ’08 that BD-Live would come with the PS3’s 2.2fw update.

However, Sony has contacted Kotaku and said that this intriguing feature is not going to be arriving with the firmware update.

Eh... It’s likely to come soon, but we’ll see once Sony officially releases a statement on the issue.
