| GamingCrazy Newbie ![]() | PSP Comics Reader Bulldog's HOWTO get comix/manga and stuff This is my HOWTO FAQ about downloading comics and manga and reading them on the PSP! Step 1 How do I read Comics/Manga on my PSP? Start by downloading the following PSP Application... Comic Book Viewer [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Bulldog's tip This application is needed to read the Comics/Manga on your PSP... Download the latest version from the website, then unzip it and copy the pspcomic% and pspcomic folders into the PSP\GAME150 folder on your memory stick. I suggest getting the Base Package. If you are using a psp slim, you MUST use the 3.xx version. All versions require that you MUST copy the "comics" folder to the root of the memory card. This is where you store your comic book files, plus there is a .pspcomic folder inside that folder that holds your bookmarks and themes. You will see a notice about no theme as a default background if you don't have the comics folder and it's subdirectories in place. Step 2 How do I find comics/manga? Well there are too many sites to mention them all, but here is a nice one for manga... [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] This website has tons of Manga! It is what we call "scanlation" or english translations of scanned copies of the original japanese manga comics. Step 3 How do I make the .zip file into a readable comics file? OK, remember the PSP Comics application we downloaded and installed? Well, it ONLY reads .CBR and .CBZ files. These are two common file types for comics/mangas. This is so gee-whiz that you will laugh... rename the extension for the comic file that you downloaded: From .ZIP to .CBZ or From .RAR to .CBR Now you will have either a .CBZ or a .CBR file that the PSP Comics application understands how to read. Wasn't that easy? Now copy it to the Comics folder on your memory stick and go read it! Step 4 - Advanced Tweaking What if I have scanned images instead of a .ZIP or .RAR file or how can I fix the ones I have? OK this is more advanced. You need a Compression program like WINRAR or WINZIP. If you have the scanned images (jpegs/png/bmp) you put them into a folder named after the comicbook (usually you want the chapter/issue in the name). Make sure the files are named in a fashion that they can be listed alphanumerically in the same order that they should be read. Now zip the folder into a .ZIP or .RAR with the same name as the folder. Now you are ready to go back to Step 3 and rename the extension. If you have a comics/manga file that does not read the pages in the correct order, rename to .ZIP OR .RAR and extract the files to a folder with the name of the file. Now go through the file names and fix the order by renaming them. Then rezip or rar them. Step 1 Hey, how do I read Comics/Manga on my Computer? Here are some links to computer applications for Comic Book reading... Hope this helps... I would like to invite everyone to read my howto on configuring DOSBox for both the PC and the PSP using the PSP memory card. This allows you to do software installs and configuring on the PC and then once a game is working, you can play it on the PSP. | GamingCrazy Newbie ![]() | Re: PSP Comics Reader This Comics Reader has some really cool features, like a zoom function, a rotating function, it even has some cool automated functions like auto-zoom (I set it to the original graphic size). It remembers the last file opened so the next time you can choose to reopen it. And an auto-load bookmark feature (I love that one). It also has Manga mode (right to left orientation). --Bulldog712 "I appear here and there, now and then, to this one and that one. A benign but mischievous creature. | GamingCrazy Newbie ![]() | Re: PSP Comics Reader Sorry, dude, but this is a "homebrew" software. Anything "homebrew" you need a hacked psp. I know there are loaders you can run like from GTA or from Photos, but I think the best solution is the custom firmware. Get a spare battery to make into a "pandora's" battery, then downgrade using that and install the latest custom firmware from M33. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Dark Alex has the files you should need, but search for a tutorial or howto about downgrading and loading a custom firmware. Dark Alex's site is short on documentation, but the downloads usually have a readme file or something. | GamingCrazy Newbie ![]() | Re: PSP Comics Reader If you are talking about where to find the original Japanese language versions of manga, here is a link to a good site... [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Any manga in its original language is called a "raw" manga. If you search for "raw manga" on the internet you should find lots of other sites. Another term to be familiar with is "cleaned" manga. That is when someone erases the original dialogue but leaves the drawings and the balloons for the dialog. What most of us are downloading is the "scanlated" manga. After "cleaning" the "raw" manga, somone puts in the translated dialog (usually English). Once this is done, the finished product is a "scanlated" manga. --Bulldog "I appear here and there, now and then, to this one and that one. A benign but mischievous creature. Hey, I just checked and all the links are working for me... You might want to try again, or maybe you have a DNS problem? The name of the PSP application is "PSPComic". --Bulldog712 "I appear here and there, now and then, to this one and that one. A benign but mischievous creature.
