WiiWare is out YAY!!!...........NOT

WiiWare was finally released today! Great news for some but not so great news for others.
I wonder if i am one of the only people that doesn't think Wiiware is cool. The games look lik sht! Even games lik the FF doesnt look good. It seems like free pc mmos like flyff are better than it. Well what do you guys think about Wiiware?

Hasn't WiiWare been out for a while already? I mean isn't that the service that allows you to download/buy updates/games from the WiiShop Channel? Unless this is something completely different from what I'm talking about.

I agree! most of the games are either OK.. or jus those games you would play on a "rainy day". The games to me seem lik nothing special or anything better than the VC games you can already download. The VC games are either the same price or even cheaper and are a hell of a lot better than alot of the announced(and released) WiiWare games. I also have a feeling that WiiWare will slow down the release of VC games.

Heres a good example: Star Soldier R looks cool but it is only 2 levels? WTF!? Your paying 800 pts just so you can have a game that LOOKS good. Your better off just getting the Soldier games on the tg-16(VC) for that price and under. Sure the graphics arent as good but it has more levels! To top stuff off Star Soldier R can only be played in periods of 2 or 5 minutes. So not only do you have less levels you are also timed.

Re: WiiWare is out YAY!!!...........NOT

Well I think part of the problem is simply the library of games you can get on the Wii. Most of the games you can buy from the WiiShop Channel are games that you have gotten millions of times already not to mention with today's age of Emulation and portable devices that can support roms or ISO's you can even rip yourself, why would you want to spend money on getting point cards? Not to mention the Wii itself is a hard system to get, if you never had a game system before and the Wii is your first one, I suppose having the games online to buy is something you may benefit from. I bought a 2000 point card so I could spend the points for the Opera browser, it's the only thing I have bought so far aside from the free updates and Metroid Preview. Personally speaking all the good games are not worth the 200-500 (I can't remember what I got left) Aside from some games I have on my PSP already. well there is one extended Mario bro's JP game I wanted to get, but I found the ROM the next day.

Well anyway I believe they need to make the channel more open so that other developers can make channels and have them be ready for you to use on the Wii. Personally I'd love to see PSPHacking101's WiiHacking101 on the Wii, or get the updated videos on the channel, same with OpenAlpha. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii and the games you can go out and get are great but I think as far as retro games, they shouldn't be the only updated new thing you can do on the system and they shouldn't be the limit to all you can get as an alternative to the game discs. Originally Nintendo noted that you could use Legal roms on the SD card to play and save games and that the point system would have been set up so in a way where you earned them online in games. Like Smash Brothers and such. Basically the Wii Points system was based on your ranks and scores online, which I felt they should have stuck with in the first place, that would make the online community more active then the way they have it now. I mean the only want to communicate to people is through filtered software in the games, where if you don't have the "friend or Wii code" you can't say or do anything. Same goes for the mailing system, unless you have a friends Wii code you can't mail them Wii 2 Wii. Email can be done but you have to tell the people you add though and old email, call, or IM before they get it because you cannot edit the intro email, it just states Wii # wants to add you to the addressbook do you accept? ....if your friend hasn't a clue you have a Wii or that your the one sending the message and the messages starts out with a bunch of numbers chances are they will think it's spam. Not to mention you cannot give someone your Wiimail address without adding them first, all messages sent from them to you will not reach you until you manually add the recipients email address.

I'd say those are the only issues I have with the Wii really, point is that the online portion of the Wii can be improved.

Re: WiiWare is out YAY!!!...........NOT

That wouldve been cool if we earned points. The NES VC and genesis VC arent worth purchasing (for me at least) since i know sites where you can play them(i actually posted them in a previous thread if you want to know them) online for free without downloading them. I plan on using the VC to download games that i either can get enough of (there are a couple) or games that were good but i never got a chance to play.
Yes there are emulators and i used to have a few on my pc, but i stopped downloading them a while ago and deleted the ones i had.

I agree man. I bougth the points card mainly for the opera browser also. lol. And to use the rest i got mario kart 64. The system is annoying though. But i think nintendo wants to filter online play w/ friend codes is becuz theyre afraid of ppl doing inappropriate things like on halo. Cursing, dicrimination, etc. Cuz it is a "family" console after all. lol

Re: WiiWare is out YAY!!!...........NOT

Well even with that being true, it's not like you can't make some family software blocks for preventing this. I mean you can make it so that your child can only go on to filtered servers and such by selecting child blocks on stuff within the system itself. I mean in the Wii you can set up parental controls and even in the browser, so why not let the customer decide if they want to block stuff or not. For the people who chose not to block, allow them to freely speak or interact online. Eh, well anyway I looked at this channel last night and it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I mean the only game on there I would buy is the FF Crystal Chronicles game, other than that all the games on there you can play elsewhere. I still think that even with the FF game, it's not enough to keep it interesting enough. Sooner or later this game may service on a disc. However on the plus side if there is a way to make Wii only games available on this service and I don't mean 3rd party ones or special ones only. I mean real Wii games, like the Xbox has on it's live service, then we might have something good.

Alternatively we would be able to get the disc but if you don't want to, buying it online sounds good. I mean the system has a lot of built in memory. Not to mention you can use a SD Card up to 2 Gigabytes, so it's not like space will be an issue. I suppose they won't use the service like this because Nintendo may be afraid of people buying games online, store them on the SD card and send them to their computers and burn copies thus aiding to piracy. Well anyway I really think it would be a good idea, even with the piracy risk.

Re: WiiWare is out YAY!!!...........NOT

lol thats funny. Cuz VC games werent hacked till recently. WiiWare games r now hacked also. U also dont burn copies for them. Buts anyways its 2 words: Twilight Princess. lol Also VC games cant be played thru the SD and the Wii only has 512 mb, which isnt enough if u have a lot of VC games. That needs to change.

Re: WiiWare is out YAY!!!...........NOT

Right, but I'm not saying that they have or haven't been. I'm just saying putting out an idea that might make the whole Wii experience better. Personally I don't think that Nintendo cares if you hack the system or not because they know if something goes wrong you'll just buy it again, so it's no skin off their teeth, it's your money that goes to Nintendo's pocket and that's what matters to them.
