I. The Console

Question: What is the "Nintendo Wii"?

Answer: The Nintendo Wii (as in "we"), formerly codenamed Revolution, is the successor to the GameCube. The picture that you are seeing is actually a model. It will actually be the size of three DVD cases stack together. The gray is part you see at the bottom is actually the "stand" in which you put the Wii on when you want to put it in vertical stand. It can still be played horizontal. According to Nintendo, the price will be lower than their competitors (most likely under $300 U.S.). According to Yahoo however, Nintendo announced that it will be lower than $250.It is expected to be released after May but before Thanksgiving (November 23, 2006). The console will come in different colors such as red, black, white, lime green, and gray.

Q: Why "Wii"?

A: Straight from Nintendo: "While the code-name 'Revolution' expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games...and each other." In other words, Nintendo called it "Wii" so that it would be easy to be pronounced on any language. Here's a video of the introduction. It should worth noting that the two "i"s represent internactive. Also [From GameSpot] another note is that "ii" is Japanese for "Good".

II. Games

Q: What games will be on the Wii?

A: Old franchises will be making appearence on the Wii such as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Nintendo has also said that they are making a new franchise. So far, confirmed games from Nintendo are: Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy (working title), Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Donkey Kong (working title), P.R.O.J.E.C.T Hammer, Excite Racing, and *The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Ubisoft recently is making a game for the Wii exclusivly called "Red Steel".

*NOTE: This does NOT mean it will just come out for the Wii. There will still be one for the GameCube just as Nintendo promised. Basically, there will be two version of the Twilight Princess for both. The ONLY difference is that the Wii version will use the controller feature.

Not much is known about the games other than the storyline of Metroid Prime 3. There are also confirmed exclusive games from third party developers but they do not have a title. Here is a list complete list. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Please note that some of them are rumored.

Q: I just saw Snake, from Metal Gear Solid, at SSBB! What's wrong?

A: Yes, you are perhaps one of the thousand fans suprised by this. I was too. Anyways, it began when Konjami (can't spell it right, someone tell how it is) was begging Nintendo to put Snake to put Snake in the game. You see, Konjami and the director of SSBB (forgot his name), were childhood friends.

Q: How much are the games going to cost?

A: Nintendo stated their games will not be over $50.

III. The Controller

Q: It's shaped different! What is going on?

A: No worries, although it may appear to be but a TV Remote, this is actually the controller. However, there's more to it than just the looks. You see, the controller has a 3D-sensor motion. What that means is that moving the control will actually interact with the game. Think of First Person Shooter games when you move the control and at the same time use it as a gun or a Legend of Zelda game using the controller as a sword. Also, recently stated in E3, that the controller has a built-in speaker, and rumble pack.

Q: What is that attached to the controller on the first picture?

A: That is an attachment used to make the controller "nun-chuck" style which involves two hands instead of one.

Q: I keep hearing about this shell, what is exactly?

A: The Classic Controller, known as the shell, (LAST PICTURE) is something Nintendo made so that games that are mulitplatform (games that can be found on more than systems) can can be played normally. What I am saying is that games that will not work with the Wii controller will instead use the shell. Also, the classic controller will also be used for downloaded games.

Q: Okay, I REALLY want to be use the controller, but I'm left-handed. How will Nintendo resolve this?
A: The controller is actually symmetrical, it can be used with either hand.

Q: Is the controller wireless?

A: Yes

Q: What's That On The Bottom of the Controller With The Blue Light?
A: The blue light on the controller lets the player know what the specific controller port it is on. Example: A controller on port one will have a blue light on box one.

Q: Is the controller rechargeable?

A: No, you will be require to use AA batteries. My suggestion is to buy rechargeable batteries.

IV. Vitrual Console/Backward Compatible

Q: What is the "Vitrual Console"?

A: The Virtual Console is an offer Nintendo is making that will allow you to download all of their first party classic games. You will be allowed to download NES, SNES, and N64 games throught Wi-Fi. They are NOT free though, you will have to pay a fee. Nintendo has suggested that they might might give some free downloads as a promotion. It was revealed at GDC 2006 that the Revolution will be able to download Sega Genesis and Turopgrapx games.

Q: What about third parties?
A: Other than Sega and NEC, is not known if third parties will support the Virtual Console.

Q: Even though Rare was bought by Mircosoft, will I still be able to download the classic Rare games?

A: With the exception of Donkey Kong, no, you will NOT be able to download Rare classics such as Perfect Dark, and Gemini Force.

Q: Does the same apply for Goldeneye?

A: Though Rare sold rights to EA, it's still Rare's game, so no.

Q: Why is the Donkey Kong series an exception?

A: Because Nintendo owns Donkey Kong not Rare.

Q: And what about StarFox?

A: Same as case as Donkey Kong. To tell the truth, Star Fox Adventures was the ONLY Star Fox game to be developed by Rare.

Q: What about pirarcy? Isn't Nintendo doing a risk?

A: Luckily, the games are running on a file that most hacking programs will not be to read. Which are ROM's on DRM's

Q: Okay that's nice, but what about GameCube games?

A: The Wii is backwards compatible with all GC games so you can just insert a GC disc in. Now, there is a thing I want to point out. There is a slot on the Wii which will allow you to connect the GC accessories. The Wii is compatible with most of the GC features such as the memory card, microphone, and the bongos. However, it is unclear to tell at this time whether or not GameBoy Player will be compatible.

Q: Where does the GC disc go in?
A: The same slot where you put the Wii games in.

V. Specs/Techs

Q: What are the specs for the Wii?
A: Sadly, very little is known about the Wii. Here are some known specs from Wikipedia.

Processors:

IBM "Broadway" CPU

ATI "Hollywood" GPU

Memory:

Unknown amount of RAM

512 MB built-in flash memory.

Ports and Periphipals:

Two USB 2.0 ports.

Support for wireless controllers.

4 Nintendo GameCube controller ports and 2 Nintendo GameCube memory card ports (for backward compatibility).

Optional USB PC-compatible 802.11b/g (Wi-Fi) wireless router.

Media:

2 Front-loading SD memory card slots.

Built-in content ratings system:

PEGI 3+, 7+, 12+, 16+, 18+

ESRB EC, E, E10+, T, M, and AO.

CERO All Ages, 12+, 15+ 18+.

OFLC G, PG, M, MA15+

Networking

Wi-Fi by Broadcom

Q: Will the Wii support HDTV?

A: No, the Wii will not support HDTV. Nintendo has done this in order to keep developing prices low and said that it will replace HDTV use with "beautiful graphics".However, this does NOT mean that you can't play the Nintendo Wii with HDTV. You can play on it, but you just won't get the best resolution results.

Q: What about the controller?

A: The controller will support any screen projector.

Q: Will the Wii play DVD's like the Playstation 2 and Xbox?

A: Yes, but it is an add-on. Well, you can buy a Wii with a choice of having a DVD playback feature or not. Keep in mind that having a Wii with a DVD playback will most likely cost more.

VI. Internet Service

Q: Will the Wii offer online gameplay like Xbox Live?

A: Yes, Nintendo will offer online gameplay through Wi-Fi.

Q: What's Wi-Fi?

A: It's free Internet connenction.

Q: Did you say "free" as in no charge?

A: Yes, it's no charge to use it. However Nintendo said that all Nintendo-made are games are free, but are not sure of the third party developers. In other words, they are going offer the free Wi-Fi to the first party games while it's up to third parties to decide.

Q: Isn't Wi-Fi something the Nintendo DS uses? If so, will it have friend codes?

A: Yes, Nintendo Wii has Wi-Fi just as the DS does and yes it will use friend codes.

VII. Speculation/Other

Q: What has been speculated for the Nintendo Wii?

A: Here are some:

The Wii specs will be a little bit more powerful than the original Xbox but greatly underpowered compared to the other systems.

Classic games will have new features such as the original Mario Party with online play.

Q: What else is there to know about the Wii?

A: Here are some:

The N64 downloaded games will have upgraded textures.

There is a DS-Wii connection.

VIII. Information Not True.

Q: What do you mean by that?

A: People tend to post stuff that are not to true merely just to get attention. Usually, they are mock-ups and have nothing to do with the console. Here are some notable fakes that are popular but NOT true:

Nintendo ON-This was created about a year ago or so. This mock-up was show that the was codenamed-Revolution will have Virtual Reality helmets. This was proven false by Reggie and the creator (Pablo Belmonte) himself. So please, stop with the "ON" threads as the ON is fake.

Nintneod GO: A recent fake made after GDC 2006. Basically, the person who made this lie said that this would be the real name for the at-the-time codenamed Revolution name.

Xenias: I don't know when this was created, but it apparently looks cool mostly because of the graphics and futurstic styles. It's apparenlty fake because Nintendo has not shown any screen shot of any game (Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario 128 does not count because it was only shown with the GameCube's power).

IX. When Is It

Q: I have one more question, when will Nintendo reveal more secrets?

A: Don't know, but probably at Tokyo Game Show, either that, or they might hold a Space World. Or they might reveal some secrets along the way. Whatever the case may be, it is unknown.

X. Screenshots

Q: Will you give me some of screenshots of the Wii games?

A: Sure

Super Mario Galaxy:

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

*These images are early sample finalized games will of course look much cleaner

*Ant flaws feel free to post or pm so i can make adjustments and enjoy

Re: Nintendo Revolution FAQ

Rumors from E3 said that the nintendo revolution will be a revlotuionary price. With that said it may mean that it will be cheaper as usual than the other companies.
