| GamingCrazy Elite ![]() | *Review* G1 Jockey Wii G1 Jockey wii (horse racing sim) ![]() All the fun of the horse track, minus the smell! With the newest installment for the G1 Jockey seires by Koei we now have a much more indepth horse racing experience, all with the thanks of our little pal, the wii. the first time i had seen this seires it was in a gaming arcade inwhich you could ride a mechanical horse, this gives the gamer a very personal experience with the horse( for better or for worse... damn those hard mechanical horses) and an enjoyable time racing against a partner in the horse next to you. however when this horse racing simulator was ported over (and then given sequals) it had lost somthing... insted of being in the riding seat, you are just a couch button masher and making baby jockeys cry. but rejoice horse fans, the wii has delivered! ![]() now you are once again put in charge of your one horse power driving apparatus. with the nunchuku in your left(reins) and the wii mote in your right(whip), you my friend are a jocky. now enough of the horsing around *cough cough* one you turn on your game you will have to make sure you have pluged in your nunchuku into your mote, as this game does require dual controls. the menu is simple enough with the usual options for difficultys, the training area (which i do sujest you use, if you want to actualy win a race), the quick match option (allowing you also to play multiplayer!) and the story mode. now the other modes are pretty obvious so i want to get right into story mode. Story Mode: as usual with most games now you will get to create your own identity from first and last name, to jacket(torso and sleeves) and ofcause wether you are male or female. you do get some nice choices with jacket customization however your choice of characters is somewhat limited (although i do love the character art) ![]() And Koei said let their be life! you will be shown an intro to explain why you have decided to become a jockey and be introduced to life and class mates in jockey school... thats right, back to school *cry* your fellow jockey friends keep the seriousness down to a minimum with some witty banter but fear not you will be getting ready for your first race soon enough with your 3 race tests for school. OK, now down to the nitty gritty. i must say the graphics did not impress me to much, considering the menus and school are all drawn i was hoping for abit more shine to my horses coat. i am not sure if this is a port but to be honest i wouldnt be surprised. however it is not to bad at all as you should be more interested in the action of the game, which i feel does delivers quite well. the sensitivity of the controls are alittle stiff with it effecting your start out of the gate alittle (unless i was having a bad day) but leaning yourself(and your nunchuku) left or right does move you both with no lag so i was happy. Your right hand is for the whip so with some easy swings you can do afew different things from showing the whip to your horse to speed it up or actualy hitting your horse to give that extra boost. you do get to go quite deep into all the tricks the jockeys use from getting your horse to change leading leg on corners, to many different whip usages and leaning postures to even wining poses. it is quite complex and lots of things to remember to keep an eye on, from your horses moral to its stamina which will effect your race very quickly so a keen eye is very much required. i would give the complexity of this game a medium difficulty as would take a good sit down and practise to learn before you atempt any story play. all in all i think this is a fun game, of which the wii is getting a strong reputation for its sporting titles. i did not go into multiplay myself but dont forget the learning curve as you will both need to sit down and learn to play before you can go into a quick match. the story mode offers many racing events and many many horses to choose from (i did not get far enough to know if you can breed horses) all having different strengths and weaknesses. you will be entered into racing and well as jumping events so this game is not just a one trick pony (i think i should be a news reader with these bad puns). its not an epic game, as many people seem to want now adays. but it does deliver what nintendo is known for and that is fun. Graphics 6-10 as the people in the stands are no different from n64 cut outs, sure im picky but still. Game controls 6-10 it does make you feel in control but not as smoothly as a next gen should i think... but i could be picky again. im still happy with it though. Game difficutly Medium for all the learning required which isnt set all that interesting unless ur a horse nut. but there are a few control set ups to lessen the burden Over all game feel I dont find much depth in sport games but this does have character based story that will make you feel part of the game, which makes me happy. if you enjoy horsing around and you would like to have a realy interesting racing game to play with friends then i give this the thumbs up! just not too pick up and play.i am not happy scoreing games as how can you measure a FPS vs RPG vs Sport game? so under Sports Sim catagory i give this game a 7/10 as its fun, challanging and its another game on the wii (yay) |
