Official Gamingcrazy Review: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Review
By: Flaminskull11

Story
Metroid Prime 3’s story revolves around Samus’ newly acquired ability, hypermode. Samus has been infected with a chemical called Phazon, which can be extremely powerful but if you use for too long, and you get corrupted and die. Samus comes back in the last part of the trilogy to fight more bosses, collect more power-ups, tackle new stages and blast away new enemies. The story overall is well-constructed and brings loads of new surprises.

Graphics
Metroid’s graphics are nothing short of gorgeous. This game has really set a new high for the Wii’s graphics; this game shows what the Wii is capable of. They look amazing to me, and believe it or not I’m playing on a normal CRTV, it isn’t widescreen, not even 480p, but if you play in 16:9 widescreen and 480p you will be blown away. Graphics have a huge impact on video games these days, and this title didn’t disappoint. A game with graphics as good as these, it adds a lot of value to this game. There is a minor flaw from a normal perspective, the graphics look very nice and detailed, but if you get too close to an object or an enemy it gets really blurry, but it doesn’t have a huge impact on your Gameplay though. Overall, Metroid is one of those games which leave in you in awe while looking at the graphics; Retro Studios has really set a new bar for Wii graphics.

Sound
The music for Metroid is wonderfully done. The music changes according to the situation, for example, if you are in a tense fight with foes the music speeds up. Corruption’s music adds a realistic feel to the game’s environment, you’ll want to just sit there for a second and listen. The characters voice-overs are well-done the little details like; the lip-syncing is done well and adds a nice feel to the game. The music is continuous and runs throughout the course of the game so you’ll never get bored fighting off enemies. Overall the music and sound sets a classic Metroid mood that you would want in game like this.

Controls
Metroid brings a new feel for FPS controls. The controls are done beautifully, but there is a small learning curve to it. Basically, to move the camera/Samus’ laser you move the wii-mote left of right. To shoot press “A”, to jump press “B”, to enter/exit hypermode hold “+”. To use your grapple lasso, flick the nunchuk forward and pull it back. Retro also introduced something interesting, to open a door or twist knob, you push the Wii-mote forward and twist it. The little details in the controls add a lot. They are also very responsive; I’ve had a few issues where the camera wouldn’t move, which was a little annoying while facing a boss. Metroid has the best FPS controls so far on Wii, some may even argue that these controls beat the double-analog stick, but that’s different for everyone.

Gameplay
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has a lot of Gameplay to offer. There are some old enemies and some new ones. They enemies are a lot tougher to beat this time around. The planets are beautifully constructed and it adds a nice element to the Gameplay. Some of it is real in-depth, shooting certain areas to collapse wall to bring down a grappling point is amazingly deep. This game also offers something for beginners, if you ever get stuck press “2” and a hint will appear on-screen. Some places, foes or bosses can only be blasted in hypermode or can only die by get grappled, which adds a lot of possibilities. To be honest, I was stuck at least 10 times so I had to refer to the IGN game guide for help, the game does get challenging. This title’s detail to Gameplay enhances the game for gamers, well done.

Difficulty
Metroid should get an award for its difficulty, it can get extremely hard at times, but that’s why you can choose different difficulty levels. If you play on normal the difficulty is just perfect, not too hard and not to easy, once you start playing it you’ll find yourself playing for hours.

Multiplayer
This title lacks multiplayer, this is a place where it loses marks but the series wasn’t even known for its multiplayer, the lack of multiplayer gets made up in the single player mode. This doesn’t mean you can’t interact with friends though you can send your friends stuff like: vouchers, credits you earn, and you can send them screenshots, but only after you get enough credits to buy a screenshot tool.

Replay Value
This title is a one-time play through, but it does pack in a good 20-30 hours of Gameplay. The one replay value is the option to go back and finish the game in hypermode, which is immensely quicker, but that’s probably an option hard-core fans would do.

Overall this game was a huge success, and it was an excellent end to the trilogy. This is the hard-core title gamers have been looking for, so soccer moms better watch out! I was sad to see this game end but it was a blast while it lasted. You get a real feeling of accomplishment when you finish this game. To summarize this review, get off your butt and buy this title now!

Awesome review! I was waiting for someone to post. Now that my 360 is on backorder, I have ordered some games instead. This is one of them.

Pretty good article but isn't this game a little old to be writing a review on it?
