| RROD experience... Not so bad. First off, I'd like to say I'm no 360 fanboy. I just happened to get a good deal for mine ($280 for a premium in a like new condition back when it was $399 for the premium) and so I wanted to jump in on the next gen. I was pretty happy for a while, got it back around this time of the year so it lasted me... a year. I was always paranoid of the RROD and whatnot (and when I tried to register after I bought it all I got was errors. yay microsoft.) So I would often use the intercoolers (the ones that were made after the nyko meltings) and I would feel a little safer. Of course...during rigorous... MP3 playback, I hear a POP! And it freezes. It froze like....12 times its whole lifespan, so nothing too scary until I do the power off, wait 10 mins, then power on. Bam. RROD. I had a feeling this was coming. So I was like, whatever, I'll see if it'll actually register this time. Miraculously it registers, and I request a repair, and easy enough, they send me a box with tracking info on when the box would get here (it's a sad day when people get excited for empty boxes) I send her in and about a week (monday to the next monday) they say it has arrived at the repair center. The next day they email me saying it's going to begin repairs at the center. 5 hours after that email they say repairs are complete and ready to ship. They didn't track the return, but they had an automated call telling me to be home between 8 AM and 8 PM to sign. After about a week's worth of waiting, it came back, I signed, and it works just like it did before.
The stories I usually hear are people waiting for months on end, only to get a box that malfunctions the next day (which happened to my friend) so all in all it wasn't a horrible experience I think. I guess they are getting better at the fixing and crap. My only question is, since they recieved my box, repaired it, then shipped it, how long was the repair? I mean...I don't think it took 5 hours to fix it... more like 5 hours to move down the line, read "3 Red Lights" on the problem diagnosis, fix it, and send it on its merry way. Is RROD that easy of a fix? And if so, how good of a job did they do to fix it? |
