Sonic Unleashed (Staff Review)

Gameplay |
8.1 Not perfect, but not as flawed as it used to be

Controls | 9.2 No problems, no bugs, the only issues that arise are with the onscreen prompts that give you next to no time to input a command ? but this is easily ignored in the grand scheme

Story | 9.0 Not particually original, but it works well within the series

Music | 8.9 Lack of vocal tracks is disapointing, but apart from... [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Re: Sonic Unleashed (Staff Review)

I loved the start of the game and Sonic speed levels, now I am trawling thru many levels as the werehog and its pissed me off so much I put it down, there was no need for the werehog levels, and IMO another let down sonic game, the original sonic speed levels are superb and put the game back on track, but endlessly futulity as a werehog where levels never end desparate to egt the speed levels spoilt the game for me....its all a matter of perspective, IMO Sega shouold have cut the werehog levels OUT! We dont need them...just the speed levels or something like Adventire or Battle on DC/GCN....well my review is going to ********** now hehe

Re: Sonic Unleashed (Staff Review)

Its not a perfect game, by any stretch of the imagination - but I'd rather spend 15 minuites destorying robots with the warehog than be subject to the often slippery physics of the hedgehog ^_^

Its not my fav. Sonic to date and I am a huge fan (def. agree that SA2 and the DC original were classics), but this is going to be as good as its going to get for the time being...hopefully with Sonic back on track Sega will be able to build upon it ^__^

Afterall the Hedgehog engine was only introduced in this game...seems like it has some great potencial

Oh I agree, Sonic speed levels are right back on track ala SA1/SA2Battle on DC/GCN, its just I got to Mazuri levels and found myself endlessly running around (well crawling) bashing things and after doing a level before that I thought back to speed, but alas no, more werehog grrrr....as CVG say, Sega appear to think gamers want more out of a Sonic game these days and add this stuff in when we dont..we just want speedy sonic zipping around levels all the time, plus I notice you cant clear a level and then return to it, you have continue with story too...????

Anyhows, good one but I shall be a bit more callous with my review, sorry, its about time, I been reviewing stuff and giving games good ratings etc, about time I slashed a game a bit, I love the speed daytime levels, they got that perfect, just keep to that formula sega IMO

the secret rings on wii was terrible IMO, the last sonic on 360 was camera bad leaps of faith all the time, so why are sega adding slow levels of different things? We dont want that in Sonic games, stick to the Dreamcast forumula, excellent 3D sonic adventure...Sonic heroes was ok but it was a bit tiresome..

I gotta admit it is a tad repetitve when you are pretty much forced to complete the Warehog levels before you gain access to the Hedgehog ones, but if anything you can always just concider them a EXP Mini-Game, afterall you get waay more EXP from a single Warehog attack than a score of Hedgehog levels

It would've been nice if this had been a next gen Sonic Rush (awesome), but sadly its the best we've got at the time, and its definatly better than some of the TERRIBLE titles that Sonic has been a part of in the past.

You CAN return to a completed level once its done...on the World Map you can choose Level Select rather than Enter Village (or w/e).

The formula was spot on for Sonic although he does need a bit more traction if you ask me

I enjoyed Secret Rings, it was the first title in a LOOONG while that actually allowed Sonic to hit top speed, sure the Story was a bit obscure and backtracking was impossible, but it was still a really refreshing outing after Sonic 360

Don't get me wrong, Unleashed has its fair share of flaws (button mashing, traction, bosses, repetitve in general and the occassional bug), but you have to look at the grande scheme. If Sega are on the right track with this, and they are, then the next game should be pure Gold...Warehog or not. I love the Sonic Adventure Games, but even they weren't able to allow Sonic the speed that he deserved...this seems to be the best thing that we've been able to get our hands on and I personally love it.

Nice to see another Sonic Fan though

Re: Sonic Unleashed (Staff Review)

Im really ticked off of the fact that SEGA did exactly what I hoped they wouldnt do. They put tooo much focus on the Wherehog! If there were only a few Wherehog lvls then it would be okay. C'mon SEGA you almost had it!
