Only Use Sony Batteries For Your PSP
Posted by dan_barney on 05/07/2006

A warning has been issued from Sony to all who own a PSP that they should not use third-party batteries for ther PSP. Sony have said to use the official batteries manufactured by Sony to prevent the danger of ignition and explosion etc.

Fake Sony batteries can be just as harmful as third-party ones which the company are not responsible for.
So if you’re thinking of buying some cheap third-party batteries then get some Sony ones instead.

I don't know there is always a risk when using third party items. But, if I was Sony wouldn't you want all profits going to you regardless?

Are you guys serious? You guys actually think it's because they want the BATTERY profit? You know LITTLE those things cost? I'm pretty sure Sony doesn't care about the profit of their battery as much as they are annoyed with gamers calling in and sending in their psp's back for refurbrishment, because their third party psp battery exploded and their psp is busted up. They are porbably saying this so they don't have to constantly take in and send back psp's due to battery issues.

Uh...why would you think that Sony doesn't want the profits from PSP Battery Sales? We should be asking you if you're serious. Sale Price of Battery per unit, minus the Cost of Battery per unit, multiplied by the number of PSP owners, equals sh!tload of money. Yeah...I'd say they want the profits, wouldn't you? If the battery only costs $5 to produce and sells for $20...the margin is huge..!! Of course Sony wants your money.

I don't buy it.. If they can come up with a higher capacity battery then I'll go for it. If they are just complacent and stick at that 2200mAh batt then forget it..

agree with pspcrazty that many brands of third party battery works better than the original. There are many reliable third party brands out there. Next thing we know Sony will said third party accessories, be it a case or screen protector will void warranty..

Just read up on the product you buy before actually buying it. Of course they want your money. But they also dont want to replace PSP's from batteries. It's almost just like the memory stick thing. You don't buy from untrusted companies.

While I would not foolishly say Sony does not care for profits - which they most certainly do. I do also understand the '3rd party accessory' statements. While most third party accessories would not damage someone/something when they do not work, batteries on the other hand can. example: http://www.theregister.com/2003/10/09/another_nokia_phone_explodes/ So, while Sony does care about profits, they also care about frivilous lawsuits from people who would buy 3rd party batteries and try to sue them if it fails. Which.. in turn cost money as well.

Nice one slamer687 .. True.. there are reliable third party batteries that can last longer and much much cheaper. Sony is making lots of $$ on just batteries alone. They probably are of the same make, just with a brand stamp.
