as brought out in the title who would dare to enter the already sour market as Sony psp is still trying to make a dent in Nintendo’s kingdom which they are doing a somewhat good job compared to all other hands handhelds that have tried but to a surprising talks and hints given from Square Enix.... yes i said square Enix the guys who make Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest . now what leads us to believe this in the interview, Wada said that in talks between Square Enix and Taito, the possibility of releasing actual physical hardware has come up. Taito being the guys behind the arcade hits like Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble), was acquired by Square Enix last year . now if they were truly considering moving in the hardware market it will be sudden death to go into the console market against Ninty , MS , and Sony and also les not forget the fact they have contacts with them for their FF games and other exclusives on the consoles. and the fact that Yoichi Wada, the president of didn’t fully leak plans but his reference to the ipod and ds leads many industry annalist to believe they might be considering the handheld market. this is certainly interest news especially coming from the famed rpg makers. i personally think its a very risky move due to the fact of all their beloved franchises would stop coming to handhelds and may cause frictions if their handhelds comes out bombs itself and then tries to patch things up again anyway please leave a thought or two

If they do make the handheld, then say goodbye to all their games for the PSP. I agree with everything you said, but I don't really care, cuz I dont play FF games

this will fail, surely, no doubt, they should just continue on producing good games, that way they wont take a risk on wasting their money on entering the console war

z-bandit, what you just said didn't make sense. Someone sells a console for all homebrew are only going to make money from selling the console. Plus there won't be anything out opening day. And the console price should be very low because it ONLY plays homebrew. The company would hardly make any money.

not gonna happen. sony has more resources and could hardly scratch nintendo. so even if it did happen, it might last a while, but nintendo definitely has enough first party to stay alive, probably MS, but would hurt almost only sony.

Not smart, Square, not smart at all. Now I like the next guy would love proprietary hardware designed for the games, but seriously, this is a steel battalion style mistake right here. Any game, that requires more then fifty dollars to purchase on it's own, LET ALONE, the cost of the controler or hardware needed to play it, better damn well either be a top-of-the-line PC game with a REALLY cool USB controler, or, it will ninty-nine percent of the time, flunk. Only the most diehard of diehard fans/ebay-jockeys/collectors will really bite, and that closes out a HUGE market-share for Square Enix. If they were going to do this, they would be wise to make a pilot company and do it seperate from their own in-house developers. Keep their own name safe in the event it bombs and cut their losses. As it stands, it would be an embarassment to them to do this. They don't need a bigger market share on the handheld markets, gameplay of their games speaks for itself! Fanboys and Fangirls will scream and claw at me as I say this, but this hardware will fall -hard- if they decide to make it. They won't call to a big enough demograph to support it, and with giants such as Sony and Nintendo really bashing foreward, Square will have to play catch-up just to be on par. They're a software company, they should stick to software. Innovate, don't deviate.
