Possible PSP 4.0 Firmware Rumours

Psp4lyf, a enthusiastic PSP member has apparently run across a rumored change list for the 4.0 firmware. On it has some interesting things that don’t seem to realistic, so take it with a grain of salt.
As it most likely is a fake I’m posting this to poke fun at how interesting of a feature list this is. It actually could make the PSP a true mobile video device if it does become true.


Although this is most likely FAKE here is what the "rumored" list of features are said to be:

Game:

  • PLAYSTATION 3 Network titles can be played under PSP [Remote Play] under Game. The PSP is then used as a monitor for any game playable in Playstation 3 game console.

Network:

  • Real, Quicktime, and WMV audio and video codecs are now supported.
  • [Shockwave Player]has been added as a feature.
  • PSP web browser has been updated to allow compatibility with current websites.
  • [Adobe Flash Player 9] has been added as a feature, using the Memory Stick Pro Duo as flash memory.
  • [Remote Play] has been improved by the PS3 outputting 1080p to the PSP with larger icons text and better video quality. Remote Play now transmits at 11 mbps per sec.
  • 802.11g support has been added as a feature.
  • PSOne games can now be downloaded without a PS3
  • Level 6 has been added to rate in Sony LocationFree Player to improve picture quality in H.264
  • [Auto Connect] has been added as a feature

Music:

  • More visuals has been added as a feature.

Video:

  • Real, QuickTime, and WMV audio and video codecs are now supported.
  • RSS [Video Streaming] has been added as a feature.
  • [Color Configuration] has been added as a feature.
  • Recording has been added as a feature under Audio and Video RSS Streaming.

Other:

  • Copy, Command, Paste, Auto Complete, and Advanced Cookie Management has been added as a feature.
Now if only this was real that would truly allow the PSP to go beyond where portable gaming has ever gone. Sony were looking at you make this a reality.

That is quite a list, but not being as knowledged in the PSPs workings as the site staff here, alot of this sounds more plausable to me, with the exeption of the shockwave feature and recording if it works the way I think it would. If Sony really is adding all this in, and doing so in one update, I would think either sony is trying to beef up the feature list and make the device more marketable in lack of better game releases, or some individuals on the PSP marketing plan and development teams have really kicked it up a knotch, of course assuming this isnt a fake after all. Though one thing Id like to ask, just how much is in technical terms is the PSP able to be expanded via firmware updates? I imagine sooner or later the PSP's possible feature list would run dry if they used up all the built in memory allocated for firmware use.

I do not belive this as unless I am mistaken you can not change the type of wireless that it has unless you change the hardware.

It could be either Sony built in the capability for that wireless function in advance until the programming was ready and unlocked the feature, or the hardware simply needs to be told how to produce the signal for the new frequency

The debate on the wireless reminds me of the 333MHz upgrade in one of the firmware updates. I mean, if they can do that, I'd assume that Sony could also update the PSP's wireless features. At least, I hope. But let's face it, if this update does well and truly exisit, then we're going to have to wait quite a bit untill it comes out.
