Rumor : DivX on PSP as part of firmware 4.0






Seems our little friend the PSP will soon be getting DivX Certification to allow for the downloading of movies and TV shows through the PC store, transferred from PS3 and from selected third party online retailers (psst...starts with G and ends with le).

DivX for PSP should be released within two months and be included with the 4.0 firmware update.

I'm sorry, but I just don't get what is so amazing about DivX and XviD. I've downloaded quite a few of them, and I can't see any difference, other than the fact that my WMP can't play them. Would someone like to explain this to me?

It's the fact that so much of the media over the web is already in DIVX, AVI type format that makes it so important. also the difference is that the size of the files are way smaller compared to WMV type format.

oh so AVI is included in the DivX support? thats pretty sweet. Time to transfer all the AVI files to the ps3 =)

AVI is for the most part a divx/xvid file but it could also include other codecs as well. The ps3 only works with divx at the moment, hope they add divx support as well.

Indeed this is a grand development to the PSP media usage, hopefully it will be implimented for both Slimline PSP and PSP Classic, and not a repeat of the skype incident.
