Sony’s Reason’s as to why this Year will be a strong PSP Year
Posted by pspcrazy 43 days ago

This PSP is currently the Top Selling Console in Japan right now, and is rising in sales like no other worldwide. Of course with all the growing they’ll need some more games to back up all their new consumers. GamePro interviewed Sony’s Senior Marketing Manager John Koller to get the low down on what Sony will be focusing on this year to keep the PSP growing.

Here are some highlights of a recent interview with Sony’s senior marketing manager John Koller by GamePro and Game Informer:

 • PSP will have a lot of strong titles coming out this year
 • Outside of Final Fantasy Crisis: Core and Secret Agent Clank, there will be a lineup of additional sports games and some very unique titles
 • One of the unique title is "franchise umbrellas"
 • The PSP Store will offer both PS1 and PS2 re-releases for download
 • PSP will have a number pf peripherals coming this year, including keyword, camera and GPS
 • Major PSP announcements will be coming next month and continuing up to E3 2008
 • Heavy focus on PS3-PSP remote play functionality this year
 • More PSP Combo Packs will be coming

Looks to me as their not telling us enough information to prove much of anything. I do like that they are working on some PS2 ports as that may mean an Final Fantasy 10 Port which would be freaking amazing in all honesty. But other then that the PSP just needs to keep pushing out awesome original exclusive titles like Patapon, God of War: COO, Loco Roco, and Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core. Well then back to playing some more Patapon... Pata Pata Pata Pon!
They could follow apple, by only allowing certified apps onto the system from the PlayStation Store.
Maybe my usage of "Third Party Developers" is a little to broad for you to comprehend... I'm not talking about people that will even remotely think about releasing stuff to be sent through the Playstation store. Granted, one of the requirements /could/ be that some applications be released into the Playstation store, but by knowing the hearts of humanity, Someone will leak the SDK if a small time third party developer gets ahold of it and feels like making other software for the PSP on the side. I'm trying to talk about this on the sly. Perhaps you don't fully grasp what I'm mentioning. Perhaps you do and feign ignorance. Either way, I'm just stating why it will never be until the PSP is ready to be another piece of technology tossed aside for "newer" and "better" gear.
Releasing a SDK would mean that third party developers would be able to analyze, reverse engineer, and create a version of the it to make an ISO loader that has some legit work around in the firmware. Its a big risk to officially release something like that. And they almost know for certain that people out there will do that. Then again, they also know that people that would do something like that would also not shut up about the work around. Which, ironically, would lead the custom software scene back to where it was in creating its own firmware versions again and advising the users of the custom software to "not upgrade" thier PSPs with official firmware. So, it would just bring us back to where we currently are now.
They could follow apple, by only allowing certified apps onto the system from the PlayStation Store.
