As we all know, the GTA franchise is often getting into trouble over the violence in their games. And now Take-Two, Sony and US retailers are being taken to court.
A GTA fan murdered two police officers and now Alabama’s Supreme Court has given the go-ahead to the lawsuit filed by relatives of the police officers.
The judge refused to dismiss the suit, and the defendants have been given no leave to appeal the decision. The trial could begin later this year, or early 2007.
Even though the defendants are unable to appeal against the decision, they do have the option to challenge the Alabama courts, over whether they have the power to try the case - which could mean further delays.
As well as the two police officers, 18 year old Devin Moore, also murdered a dispatcher. Moore pled not guilty by reason of mental defect, but was convicted of the crimes and sentenced to death.
The plaintiffs claim that, due to player GTA, he had trained to become a killer. The case was initially presented by anti-videogames campaigner and lawyer Jack Thompson - but later withdrew from the case following accusations of violating legal ethics.
